Whats a horse / equestrian myth that you wish people would stop believing?

for me it's the whole "don't let the horse with colic roll or they'll twist their intestines." the main worry with a colicking horse rolling is them injuring themselves or others by violently thrashing around.

if horses got gastric torsion from rolling, we'd all be cooked every time our horses were pastured.

I'm always curious to know, what do your horses eat?

Mine has free access to orchard 24/7 and grass at turnout. She gets alfalfa mash and triple crown senior for breakfast and dinner. She also gets salt and chamomile!

She's a 19 year old POA that's surprisingly not a super easy keeper! She's in heavy work, as we compete.

Lets talk hopes for season 10!

me personally

  1. Buddie canon (duh)

  2. Perhaps a problematic and short term Tommy return (goes hand and hand with Buddie)

  3. Ravi begins!!!!

  4. Athena doing some cool cases >!now that she's a detective.!<

  5. May and Ravi storyline

  6. Harry has some kinda accident or injury and has to cope with that

  7. Chris and Theo interactions 🩷

This might be a dumb question, but do horses need to fast before surgery? I always assumed so, just like any other animal. But now that I think about it, since they can't vomit, would there be a reason for them to need to have an empty stomach?

Obviously this is for non-abdominal surgeries, which would make sense to fast for.

I've never had a horse that's needed major surgery, so I haven't really thought about it. I know many horses (mine included) are so prone to ulcers that they can start to forming if they miss a meal/don't get hay for a day.

Hi guys!

Hey everyone, I'm Rosie! Lowkey I just came across this sub and it looks cool so i'm joining! 😈

A bit about me:

I'm a 16 year old girl, I'm bi, and i'm half Mexican. My favorite color is pink. I like watching movies and reading. I try to do some art sometimes but I'm very bad at it. I've been an equestrian for 10 years and I also do school dance and theater and tech. I love talking to people and meeting new friends! I hate worms.

I have 2 cats, a dog, a frog, and a horse!

I want to be a nurse when I grow up.

random pictures of pets and my dance portrait and such.

I'm a pretty boring person to be honest lol. I work at a butterfly house so here's a picture of my favorite!

I'm an equestrian and sometimes i try to do art. I like watching TV.

Just like... help. My chest hurts but the boredom hurts more.

I don't mean to flood this sub (i'm sure many of you guys recognize me now!) but here's me and Lady 8 years later

Lady in her school pony era in 2018 to me and her now!

One barn shutdown, a rotational fall, and a reunion with my heart pony by pure chance (or maybe a higher power?) later, here we are!

Don't mind 9 year old me and my questionable equitation and fashion choices, the girl was such a saint for putting up with me.

And happy late 19th birthday to my wonderful Lady Luck!

Being a "fat" rider in this sport.

I'm a 17 year old eventer turned hunter/jumper. One thing in hunters, and really the equestrian world over all, is that being anything other than tall and skinny is not a good look. I'm 5'2" and 150lbs. I'm not the ideal hunter/eq rider. It feels like no matter how well I ride, the way I look will always make some judges disregard me. It doesn't help that my horse is a 15hh appaloosa lol. Theres this one lady at my barn who always tells me i'm too "obese" for my horse. (I'm well below 20%) It hurts.

This sport is everything to me, but it's also hurting me. I don't know what to do. I feel like I look obese in pictures, and trying to hide my stomach in photos impacts my riding.

I'm being a bit vulnerable here and posting pictures. Please try to not come at me. I'm just looking for gentle advice/support.
