PSA: Auto Hold stops holding if you take off your seat belts.

Made a fatal mistake in putting faith on auto hold. Car stopped, then i took off seatbelt to pick up something that fell. The car started moving and almost got t boned. Thankfully it was all slow moving traffic and i stopped the car in time and the other car stopped too. Holy shit i was afraid. Horrible choice on my part. I just didnt know the auto hold would stop because of the seatbelt. Good to know. Holy shit im shook.

NYC Gas Milage

Looking into a sienna. I live in nyc and looking for information on what others who live in nyc get for gas milage. The epa ratings are all lies and not made for nyc. They are for other cities that are built differently under perfect conditions. The congestion and traffic here is insane. Can anyone inform me of their mpg experience?

[Spoiler Discussion] Fan Theory: Subaru is Flugel and Emilia is Satella are continuations of a different version of themselves.

For Subaru/Flugel and Emilia/Satella, I think the answer may be much more complicated than simple reincarnation, cloning, or “they were secretly the same person all along.”

My theory is that Subaru and Emilia are genuine, independent continuations of Flugel and pre-corruption Satella that were intentionally created in order to find a new answer to a problem the original selves could not solve. I do not think Subaru is literally Flugel with memory loss, nor do I think Emilia is simply Satella with amnesia. I think Re:Zero’s metaphysics support the idea that memory, identity, consciousness, soul continuity, and personality are all partially separable structures.

The biggest foundation for this theory is that Re:Zero repeatedly shows us that memories are not equivalent to the soul. Subaru in Arc 6 loses his memories yet still reconstructs Return by Death logic and morally trends toward the same conclusions. Julius remains fundamentally Julius despite name and memory damage. Rem and Crusch still retain recognizable existential cores despite memory loss. The story consistently implies that there is a deeper “core self” beneath memory.

Because of that, I think Flugel eventually reached a point where endless Return by Death cycles, accumulated trauma, despair, sins, and possibly Authority corruption made him psychologically incapable of finding the correct answer anymore. Likewise, Satella’s catastrophe occurred after absorbing an incompatible Witch Factor, which the story heavily implies psychologically distorted her and resulted in the Witch of Envy personality emerging.

This is where my theory differs from most others. I do not think Emilia is “Satella without memories.” I think Emilia is Satella before corruption by the Witch Factor. Emilia is not merely an unburdened Satella, but Satella’s preserved original self-state before Authority corruption fundamentally altered her psychology. This explains why Emilia looks identical to Satella and shares the same soul signature while still behaving fundamentally differently.

The Witch Factors in Re:Zero are not neutral power systems. They repeatedly alter psychology and amplify destructive tendencies. Petelgeuse descends into madness, Regulus becomes pathologically entitled, Sirius displays distorted emotional synchronization, and Louis exhibits fractured identity structures. The story repeatedly presents Authorities as metaphysical distortions of desire and identity rather than simple magical abilities. Under this framework, Satella’s destructive nature may not have been her original personality, but the result of an incompatible Authority amplifying dependency, obsession, despair, and emotional instability into catastrophic proportions.

I think the same process happened with Flugel and Subaru. Subaru is not a replacement for Flugel. He is a divergent continuation preserving the same soul identity while freeing himself from accumulated despair and deterministic failure. This preserves emotional authenticity and free will because Subaru and Emilia are not puppets or artificial copies. They are real people making genuine choices from liberated perspectives.

I think Flugel and Satella intentionally wanted this because they realized they had failed. They became trapped by trauma, obsession, despair, Authority distortion, and recursive failure. Instead of trying to brute force the solution themselves forever, they entrusted hope to future continuations capable of arriving at different conclusions. In this framework, Subaru and Emilia are not replacements for Flugel and Satella, but reconstructed possibilities capable of change where the originals became psychologically trapped.

This also explains why Satella loves Subaru so irrationally. If Subaru is a continuation of Flugel’s soul identity, then Satella’s love is not random obsession. She recognizes him emotionally and spiritually. Likewise, Subaru and Emilia naturally gravitate toward one another because Re:Zero repeatedly implies that souls possess recognizable affinities beyond memory through Witch Factor compatibility, spirit affinity, instinctive emotional resonance, and characters like Shaula immediately recognizing Subaru despite impossible chronological gaps.

I also do not think Satella created Emilia as a vessel for herself. Satella is sealed, immortal, and unable to physically exist normally in the world. Emilia instead exists as Satella’s preserved original humanity capable of physically standing beside Subaru in the real world. She is not controlled by Satella or possessed by Satella. She is a genuine continuation free from the Witch Factor corruption, obsessive dependency, and catastrophic mindset of the Witch of Envy. Emilia’s independence is therefore not evidence against her connection to Satella, but evidence that she represents Satella before corruption fundamentally distorted who she was.

Philosophically, I think this theory resembles Jungian individuation through recursive trauma partitioning combined with Buddhist-style continuity of self without strict identity permanence. The theory assumes that the self in Re:Zero is neither perfectly fixed nor completely replaceable. Instead, identity persists through continuity of soul, tendency, and existential direction even when memories, personalities, and psychological structures are altered or partitioned. Subaru and Emilia remain authentically themselves while also remaining authentic continuations of Flugel and Satella.

The Jungian aspect comes from the idea that Flugel and Satella effectively separated corrupted and uncorrupted continuities of themselves. The Witch of Envy and burdened Flugel represent accumulated suffering, obsession, despair, and distorted identity structures that became psychologically unsustainable. Subaru and Emilia represent preserved humanity and adaptive potential. Importantly, this is not simple “good side versus evil side.” It is closer to a traumatic partitioning of the self where unbearable suffering fractured identity continuity in order to preserve the possibility of growth and change. The likely endgame under this framework would not be annihilation of the corrupted selves, but reconciliation and reintegration after growth, which aligns heavily with Re:Zero’s recurring themes of self-acceptance, healing, and overcoming despair rather than simply destroying enemies.

The Buddhist aspect comes from the idea that Subaru and Emilia are not strict reincarnations, clones, or identical copies. They are causally continuous beings inheriting existential momentum while remaining genuinely new individuals. In Buddhist philosophy, rebirth is often less about a permanent soul transferring intact and more about continuity without absolute sameness. That maps surprisingly well onto Re:Zero’s treatment of memory, identity, Return by Death, and Authority inheritance. Subaru and Emilia inherit the unresolved suffering and emotional momentum of Flugel and Satella while still remaining free to arrive at different conclusions.

At its core, I think the theory ultimately reflects one of Re:Zero’s biggest recurring ideas:

People are not destroyed by suffering because they change. They are destroyed when they become unable to change.

Under this framework, Flugel and Satella reached that point. Subaru and Emilia were intentionally created as continuations still capable of transformation, growth, and finding a new answer where the original selves could not.
