More Black Marbled Shell

Stole my wife’s camera and promised myself I’d start to get better at photography to gear up for next year’s Dome.

Two weeks of inconsistent wear with a lot of brushing. Trying to train the rolls coming in so they’ll really break-in and patina properly

Barrie vs TruBalance?

I apologize for another last and sizing comparison.

I’ve tried the TruBalance in a 403 in an EEE width and found the heel/waist too horizontally wide but the ball area to be sufficient. There is a Barrie last boot in an EEE width available that I’m tempted to try.

I’ve heard the Barrie has a wider heel but is that wider than the TruBalance or just narrower but less of a combination last? Would the Barrie in the same width have the same issues I had in the TruBalance?

JK back at it with fake reviews?

Recently seen a few JK posts promoted here and on Facebook (which is odd considering they’ve banned me on all social media).

It seems like the JK subreddit was shut down for a while? Now that it’s back up the first posts are the most generic reviews possible made by burner accounts with 0 previous posts or comments. There was a recent post asking about the state of their subreddit and social media that seems to be deleted as well.

On Facebook they just have some no-name “influencer” pushing their OT and they’ve paid bot accounts to like the posts. If you click on the posts there’s dozens of likes and comments but none show up other than Tim and Willy.

Just seems odd. I thought they were making big changes and becoming an honest company, not continuing their embarrassing marketing strategy of paid/fake engagement and suppressing negative reviews.

Java Waxed Flesh

Finally feel like the patina is getting over that initial waxed flesh hump. Had these for 5 months. Probably my most or second most worn pair of boots during that time period.

Considering now sending them in to Wyatt and Dad for the Iron Logger package with Dr Soles half soles. They’ve been poorly balanced since the start but I’ve just been delaying getting them re-heeled or recrafted.

Classiest Boots on the Jobsite

Can’t lie, I have kept a brush and a spare pair of shit kickers on me at all times. Didn’t get any real work pictures and I avoided tar and diesel like the plague but these have been with me building a road in downtown Portland.

Here’s some more pictures in somewhat better lighting like I promised. A couple pictures are where I hit them with a little Saphir Mirror Gloss which is what I use to polish the rest of my shell collection.

Not sure how much of a “review” I’m going to do on these. Will most likely just be an annoying amount of patina pictures.

I will say I do like the 1925 last. I think it’s the only low arch last out of Spokane I’d continually wear. Reminds me of the rest of my almond-ish service lasts. The one hang-up I have is the heel counter seems very shallow. Seems like the top of the counter ends below the top of my heel. Also my weird feet could always use additional fittings to every last. We’ll see how this breaks-in though.

Mainly happy with my victory in the marbled shell lottery as the orange/red/purple is much more desirable than the green dominant colorways you typically see imo.

I think my one regret was the cut top on a 6” boot, especially with how unforgiving shell can be. Lesson learned on trying to be different and edgy (pun intended) instead of just getting the rolled top

Shoutout to u/BigStetson on setting me up with this order

NBD: White’s replaced my Smokejumpers

Bought a pair of Smokejumpers in Black Waxed Flesh back in January. I am mismated and order custom uppers but White’s, like most builders, overestimated the width I needed. My feet are an E/EE Brannock but based on volume they measure towards an FF/FFF. White’s returned the original boots, sent me on a try-on pair of a stock size to further specify my fit and expedited my new pair.

These were swapped to the 55 last from the 4811, changed to Seidel black roughout, and down to a single stitch hand welt. Much better last for my feet and the shelf on their standard double stitch is way too wide for someone like me who prefers narrow, nail bottom loggers.

I’ve become a big fan of White’s as of lately. I always avoided them just due to my wrong assessment of them being a boring corporation now. Their customer service is top notch and I’ve now gotten 2 custom sized boots from them in 5 weeks, and 3 weeks.

Gokey Sizing

I hate when companies do this. What is your normal shoe size? Does that mean they are true to size? Half size up vanity sneaker sizing? Half size down like American heritage boots?

Anyone with experience in Gokey boots have any insight to what size to by based off your Brannock?

Garnet Rambler

Finally arrived in-person. Not complaining but normally Truman is delivered next day for me since I live a few towns over. Took almost a whole week, the horror.

Garnet is super dark. Almost indistinguishable from black indoors. Only under sunlight in this picture can you really tell it’s purple.

Very nice build. I think Truman has caught its stride again with these new colorful leathers and MTOs. Good stitching, lasted and balanced properly.

White’s Cykel

Am I cool now that I have a pair of engineers?

Picked these up off the seconds rack during my trip to Spokane. Someone must have stretched these out and returned them because there’s no way I should be fitting into an EE width

JWF

4 months of on and off wear at work. Matching Dale’s kilties.

I’ve had Java and black before along with waxed fleshes from other builders and this has been the most resilient wax layer yet.

No longer a Wesco customer

Let me start off by saying I’ve been a long-time Wesco fanboy and customer. I’m in logging/excavation in Oregon and used to somewhat regularly visit the Wesco factory and place orders in-person. All of my sizing has been consistently updated and done in-person by their employees, not something that I’ve mailed in and possibly made errors on.

I posted before about these boots that have gone wrong at every turn. Bought them off eBay, showed up damaged, and instead of returning I decided to send them to Wesco for a rebuild. This is my first big regret. I should have never accepted damaged boots when they were listed in “excellent condition” but I just accepted the seller’s $50 refund and thought I’d make a cool rebuild.

Wesco rebuilt them to the wrong size (a full size too short along with being too wide) and their solution was to stretch the boots to my required length. I was apprehensive because I knew if this step went wrong then they would no longer be able to be sold. They were also given to me with a damaged footbed that I was unaware of until I removed the inserts. I was told before sending them in that future adjustments could and would be made.

Got them back from Wesco. Really minimal changes were made but I could at least get my feet into them and walk around for a day to assess the fit. Incredibly sloppy in terms of width for my feet.

I emailed Wesco to address the fitment issues and the only solution presented was for me to pay them to have the boots re-lasted. I don’t really find it acceptable for me to pay extra to fix their sizing mistakes.

I’m not sure if the lady behind the customer service emails is new but she’s been fairly off putting during the whole ordeal. I am being blamed for not fixing their work order and giving them more information about the fitment of boots that I was unable to wear and properly assess. I don’t see how a customer can be blamed for a company not following the fit sheet they’ve had on-file.

If this is how issues are now resolved with long-time customers then I have no ability to trust Wesco with my future orders. Seems like things really shifted in terms of my interactions and service I was receiving from them once Chris started working remotely and current management (aside from Roberta) is just there to cash in a check and pump out the next collab boot.

Since posting about this on Facebook yesterday Wesco has yet to respond to my email voicing my complaint. The only solution they have provided is that I pay $175 to have the boots re-lasted and I have already declined that. I am assuming at this point that I am being ghosted and there will be no solution.

Lower Height Upper?

With the discontinuing of the wide widths the last Parkhursts available in my size are the Richmond but in the lower height upper. Looks like the pattern has 4 eyelets instead of 5

How much shorter are these uppers than the standard pattern and where exactly do they land on your ankle?

FS: Traveler Penny Dune CXL - 12EEE

Just posted about receiving these. Unfortunately with my mismated feet one of the loafers is much too large.

These were a B grade. Picture included of the inside of the right loafer where there is some marks and discoloration in the hide

Worn for about an hour.

$200 shipped

u/Soberg1itch — 1 month ago

Can you spot the B-Grade?

Thought it was funny. A lot of reviews seem to note that the imperfections in the B-grades can go unnoticed. Mine is a little more obvious.

I’m a big on not babying boots and shoes and building up a patina so it doesn’t bother me.

Got these immediately once the sale dropped for the already on sale inventory.
