Why do people burn each other at mavericks?
Surely it's quite dangerous at such a big and heavy wave

I only seem to do it when I consciously think about it. Wish I could just do it without thinking about it. Seems like a regional/generational thing though.
A few years ago I was making what I thought was a pretty good wage as a non-union carpenter. $45 an hour. Most money I've ever been paid per hour in construction. Now with today's prices that rate ain't so good anymore. I want to ask my boss for a raise based on inflation. Maybe 3-5%. Lord knows that's not nearly as much as everything has inflated but it would help.
Or is it the same or even regressed?
Have you seen him/her?
Lots of white sharks around this summer, especially off the harbor. Lots of surfers seeing them jump out of the water while feeding. Be careful!
Do you surf as well as bodyboard? Do you consume surf media? Do you enjoy being around surfers in the water? Etc etc the big questions regarding our boogin' life and our relationship with our upright brethren.
I know there are a lot of people who did the same thing but he was undeniably one of the best. And maybe still is. Idk if he bodyboards anymore.
My wife and I need to move from our current spot (landlord wants to move in) which is a 2 bedroom house with a small yard and shed. Rent has increased a lot since the last time we moved in this area and our budget only really allows us to rent a 1 bedroom apartment or maybe a 2 bedroom apartment if we are lucky. The problem is we've been living here for a while and we have a lot of stuff now since we got used to living with the extra space. My wife uses the second bedroom as an office/hobby space and I use the shed for tool storage (I'm a tradesman). If we have to move into a 1br apartment there'll just be a tone of stuff we don't have room for. I know the obvious answers are getting a storage unit or getting rid of stuff, just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and how you made it work.
We have a young male acd. These are the 'negative' behaviors he does that he apparently needs a professional trainer to correct (according to a friend):
Hard barking at people coming into our front yard
Will demand bark at us for treats or attention sometimes. At this point he has learnt we don't respond positively to hard barking so he mostly just soft barks at us.
If he wants to go through a door and we open it he will sometimes nip the bottom of the door if he is really excited
Apart from that he is super friendly to people and other dogs, has pretty good recall off leash, knows basic commands ie sit wait leave it etc. to me it seems like normal dog behavior especially for this breed. I think he's the best dog ever but my 'friend' constantly has some shit to say about him and also rants about dynamics about respect/disrespect and alphas in the pack and all that shit that seems largely discredited.
Just wondering if you guys ever try bodyboard waves like this and if so what is your mentality when you're riding this kind of wave. Are you trying to just do face manuevuers ie carves and spins? Looking for the ramps? I have some world class point breaks near where I live (rincon) but I've never bothered to go out there, it's usually just too crowded with surfers. I have always just looked for the short hollow waves.
I had it within 48hrs of ordering. Toobs are legit! AND they sent a bunch of stickers!
Should I walk the other direction? It's a crawlspace foundation but at some point some kind of concrete bunker was built beneath it. I don't know why it was built. It is apparently unpermitted and it sure looks like it (doesn't look professionally built). I'm worried the bunker has undermined the existing foundation somehow.
Also, what kind of waves do you ride most of the time?
I'm a carpenter and I'm lucky enough to have the flexibility to surf before work if I want. I'm currently 32 and probably do this about twice a week but I find on the days I surf for the rest of the day I'm just super tired and can't really be as productive as I should be. I eat well and get okay sleep but I'm worried as I get older it'll just get too hard to do this. Do any other blue collar surfers have any advice?
Are custom x boards still made in the USA? And how is everyone's experience with them? Are they durable, well made, etc etc
I feel like when I was growing up on the beach none of the people who lived around me were particularly rich. We were all either middle class (like.my family) or working class like a lot of my friends and their families. But now it seems like to live near the ocean, at least in California, you need to be making at least 100k a year and that's just to rent a small house or apartment while also being able to afford the COL.
Wife and I live in SoCal.
I make around 65k a year (after tax) as a carpenter. My wife makes around the same at her job. I'm actually paid relatively well for being in a non union position and I feel like if we moved elsewhere I wouldn't be paid as well.
I love the ocean - my life has revolved around it since I was a child, but now in my early 30s I'm really struggling to see how I can keep this lifestyle with how expensive it has become.
Looking for something that'll last me this summer. Water is pretty warm in California...
In about a year's time (or less) I'm going to need to find a place to live in Ventura, preferably for under $3k. I'm wondering if any of you guys have predictions for what the market will look like in 2027. It looks as if rental prices are not necessarily going up but they are still very expensive.
Sign says it will close 'permanently' on 7/20/26 for 3 years.
Anyone have any more info? This is such a bummer for the town.
