Happy Mothers’ Day

To all the moms, fur-moms, feeling moms, titas-na-moms, step-moms, adoptive moms.

As long as you’re a nurturing person with a motherly role to someone, a toast to you!

Hope you get the appreciation, recognition, rest and well-being that you deserve today! There is not enough love in this world to give back for your dedication, commitment and compassion to your families.

To my mom, I still remember the life lessons you gave me.

To the mom of my children, I miss you so much, but I know things are getting better and you keep looking out for us. I’m sure in a much better place now.

Questions I wish my parents asked me in my teen years

Did you get to ask these to your children? If yes, how did it help you as a parent?

If you have grandchildren, will you ask them these questions?

Wasn’t my cup of tea, but went along with the classmates, especially since kasama si crush ko.

Will admit I really liked the songs and OST of this film.

I used to join rallies for Labor Day celebrations back in college. Isko here.

I still believe that activism and public criticism of government is needed, especially to hold our government accountable.

Labor Day is to remind everyone that workers deserve a just wage and appreciation of their contribution to growth and development.

But at this age, I can only contribute by doing online support and solidarity actions, without going to the streets.

Still, I appreciate the rest of everyone today. Hope the lessons of history remain alive and meaningful to all.

I only tried it for a few times then, and completely forgot about it. I was still hooked to IRC during those times.

Anyway, my mantra has always been if it’s for free, then it’s a digital security for me.

It’s in two weeks time. How do you celebrate this?

My mom passed away 12 years ago, so we don’t celebrate it mostly.

This will be the second Mother’s Day since my wife passed away. Last year, we just visited her at the Columbarium and offered prayers and flowers. We’ll probably do the same this year.

I’m happy just to get a text message as a greeting for Father’s Day.

It’s really a different set of expectations for these kinds of social events when we hit the 50s.

Going to read some short stories by Ursula K. Le Guine this weekend. To get me in the mood, I have this quote from her acceptance speech during the (American) National Book Awards in 2014:

“Books aren’t just commodities; the profit motive is often in conflict with the aims of art. We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art.”
