This Sedge Warbler was warbling at RSPB Frampton

After last night's much needed rain and a fairly cloudy day I wasn't expecting to see any butterflies today but this nice Red Admiral paid a visit to the buddleia.

This millstone in the west end of Holbeach marks where the eastern and western hemispheres meet.

If only the moth was on a tree I'd never have seen it. Speckled Woods are always a delight.

This one seems somewhat alone.

This borby Balearic Shearwater landed close to a boat near the Isles of Scilly.

A couple of today's butterflies and a hoverfly... sadly the blues didn't want to be photographed, perhaps later!

First time I've seen one of these impressive hoverflies in my garden.

These three lorries were among a large number of varied classic vehicles heading through Holbeach and along the A151 this morning.

The Prior's Oven in Spalding is probably the best (only) micropub in South Holland. Three or four ales straight from the cask in an historic building... ask the barman for details.

This Red-backed Shrike is looking nice and round.

Nice to see these to in the garden this afternoon. In the morning while out on a bike ride I was a lovely Clouded Yellow fluttering around. I stopped and followed it up and down the verge, hoping it would land; sadly I lost sight of it so couldn't get a picture.

I don't know what sort of Damselfly this is; at least the butterflies were easy to identify.

When I first saw this I thought it was a chaffinch... when I looked at the picture I realised the 'diagnostic wing-bar' was in fact a leaf! Zooming in I realised I was looking at a Corn Bunting; possibly my first of the year.

Lots of people have posted pictures of their giant sunflowers, here is a tiny one. I'd guess it was about two feet tall 🌻

We might not have rolling hills but the sky looks great on a sunny day in the fens.
