One of my dogs swallowed ~ 1” tapered chicken

About 5 hours ago. We’d just returned from vet for the red dog. Left room for about 5-10 sec to close garage door and viola two dogs in kitchen garbage. I forgot to lock gate. Searched trash 3x. Could have gone down drain.

Vet said to feed both bread (3:30) rice for dinner (added pumpkin, 6pm). Then meds with tablespoon pumpkin at 7:30. I think Kate ate bone if anyone did.

So far both seem ok. Both sleeping but that’s normal.

Katie dog, 8 yr spayed lab, was at vet for increased gagging or cough. She has pulmonic stenosis, enlarged heart.

Pearl dog, 12 year spayed lab with history of seizure and ? Brain tumor.

I guess I’m watching for any signs of abdominal discomfort or bleeding. They’ve drank a fair amount of water.

Maybe I’ll feed a little more bread or pumpkin before bed ?

What’s standard protocol for chicken bones ?

Thanks

Is it safe to ski 30+ year old tele and backcountry skis?

Hello

I had posted this in a different skiing sub-Reddit and it was suggested I post here.

Asnes Nansen telemark mountain skis Fischer Europa 99 ST

Both were great skis, but I haven’t used them in 32 years. Hate to throw them out.

Can much go wrong with old three pin bindings?

Are old skis skiable or should they be sold as decorations only?

Thank you

Will caulking windows cause mold?

Pictures in comments.

Edit: I’m only concerned about condensation or mold directly under window sills. Will the air flow I blocked from flowing into house now cause problems in the wall under window?

Edit: home energy audit was Oct ‘2024. And aside from the cost to heat and cool (electric) the draft didn’t bother me too much. This week I panic and caulked because I was having trouble with air quality indoors due to wildfires and probably my
Portable AC

Hi. Home energy audit recommended that I seal window sills. Thermal images showed where heat was entering house. I can feel heat and cold slow with my hand.

Do I caulked 8 windows. 4 are fixed pane. They are on the south, east and west side of home. Heated, partially finished basement beneath.

Pictures show original gap in one. The other shows where I left section open under crank.

Should I have sealed this?

Having blocked airflow, do I now risk mold growth?

Should I remove caulk?

Located in semi-arid region, eastern WA. 4th year of drought. However, last winter was unusually humid.

Thanks

Data Centers. Inland Power is evaluating request, too.

Are these the same data centers as avista?

We need a State Wide moratorium!

I have been an inland customer for 30 years and am very happy with their service. My understanding is that power companies cannot discriminate. They have to review and evaluate. And I appreciate this detailed response.

County, city and state powers that be, need to stop offering tax incentives.

Response from Inland Power:

At this stage, Inland Power has not approved or committed to serving a data center project; we are evaluating a preliminary request from an energy developer that is considering several potential locations for a project that could support data center operations. Inland Power is conducting the technical diligence needed to understand whether and how the requested electric load could be served.

However, our mission is our members. If anything does move forward, we are committed to protecting our membership in regard to cost. The developer is paying the cost of the evaluation, so those expenses are not passed along to Inland Power members. Additionally, we understand that affordability is important to our members, and our main priority is to provide reliable, affordable, and clean energy services to those we serve. Members will not subsidize this potential project. The prospective customer would be responsible for the costs associated with its request, including studies, staff time, required infrastructure and its project-specific power supply costs. Inland Power will carefully evaluate whether the project could provide net benefits to the cooperative and its members, including helping manage rising power costs and supporting long-term rate stability.

We are carefully assessing the distribution requirements, while transmission capacity and a project-specific wholesale power supply purchase would also need to be executed by the appropriate providers. Protecting reliable service for existing Inland Power members would remain a central requirement throughout the evaluation. Please be aware that Inland Power does not discriminate against any potential commercial or residential member seeking services in our area and service would only move forward if the technical, operational, financial, and regulatory requirements can be met.

As far as environmental concerns, broader environmental review would be led by the applicant and the public agencies with jurisdiction. Depending on approvals required, that process may include technical studies, public notice, and opportunities for community input. Inland Power is dedicated to providing responsible energy services while adhering to the clean energy and environmental standards relevant to our operations and the communities we serve. Any new electric service must comply with Washington’s Clean Energy Transformation Act, along with all applicable state environmental laws.

Again, we appreciate your input as a member and if you have any further concerns that you would like passed on to our **Board of Trustees, please feel free to write a letter for the board to review during their board meetings (emphasis added by me)**Please let us know if you have any questions or need anything else.

Thank you,

Not much of a lawn, but any idea what’s making these holes, burrows?

Just noticed these hole in lawn. They are located above first opening to septic tank. Don’t know how long they’ve been there. Soil very dry. Some holes have little mounds of dry dirt. Others have cobwebs or spider webs. We have bunnies, but only one type that digs burrows and I haven’t seen it.

Trying to figure out when my income will be taxed.

Edit: Got it! Thank you.

Combined income = adjusted gross income + tax exempt interest + half of income from social security.

Questions:

  1. Is SS halved before or after Medicare premium subtracted.
  2. Does adjusted gross income include RMDs and Trad IRA withdrawals?
  3. Are other health insurance (Medicare C,D) subtracted, too?

Thanks

Med question

Edit: these are extended release

Pearl, black lab, is Prescribed 1000mg Levetiraceta twice a day. I must have given all four pills (2000mg) this morning at 7:30, because pill box is empty. Both my dogs get meds bid and Kate’s evening dose is in her pill box.

What is the max dose a 55 lb dog can have in a day?

Pearl is a 12 year old spayed lab. 55 lbs. no seizures since starting Levetiraceta a year ago. I’ve mixed up meds before, usually missed doses by up to 12 hours with no visible effect.

Thanks

Data Centers can cause Heat Islands

Edit: this is a preprint and may not be peered reviewed.

Important for Spokane and everywhere.

“The consistency, scale and extent of these effects lead to think that the creation of local climate zones induced by data centres - that we call the data heat island effect - is real and significant, especially i the context of global warming and climate transformation.”

Thermal picture of pressure tank. Is there enough water on 30 yr old tank?

First pic is of tank before valve started leaking. The following is after service - new valve, system charged.

Before service, I’d hear pump come on just about every late evening. I’m not hearing it as often. Mostly stays between 40-60 psi.

  1. This morning I very lightly watered around trees and pump came on. It stopped at 62. Next week we will have wildfire conditions and I’d like to step up hand watering. Is it ok to continue watering while pump on?

  2. Day of service, as plumber was wrapping up, dark stuff came up bathroom sink and toilet. And happened again a couple days ago, followed by low water in bowel after flush. Could this be a clog or from low water level in pressure tank?

  3. Should I be calling a plumber or well/pump company?

Thanks.

Should I have

Inhereted 401k that I was taking RMDs was rolled into traditional Ira that I did not take RMDs out of. Do I need to take them now?

Husband passed in 2024. This week I rolled over my inherited 401k into a traditional Ira that I had assumed after he passed. This second acct is with a different company.

The Inheretid 401k company required that I take RMDs starting in 2025 - when my husband would have started.

Now that this money has been rolled over into my traditional Ira ( assumed ) do I need to pay RMDs on the original $13k in that acct?

I was scheduled to take RMDs out of traditional Ira after I turn 73.

Thanks
