Birthday Dinner at Cheesecake Factory 8/9. What are the “must tries”?

I’ve already looked at the menu online (that way I’m not spending 30m in the restaurant looking) and I’ve already picked out a few things. Not many entrées so I think I’ll be having a smorgasbord of appetizers for my main meal😂 what do you think of my choices? Anything I should remove or consider adding?

I also included possible drink options & dessert options.

Edit: the location I was going to go to has their system down and were unable see anyone even though I had a reservation🤬

I went out of my comfort zone!!

I took today off work because tomorrow is my 26 birthday. I decided to make a weekend out of it. I decided today I would go to places I’ve never been to in the place I’ve lived my entire life. I mapped the whole things out.

I started at Half Baked Goodness then went to a literal warehouse FULL of books (got overwhelmed by the shear amount). Then I went to a different book store which looked like it was in a sketchy area to me and I almost left to my next stop, but I made myself go in. It was perfectly fine. I ended my day spending 1hr & 40m at Little Craft Place!

I’m so proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone!😇

Gemma in her Donut stand on the Bridge my dad built

Gemma’s little growth is looking better since I went to the vet Wednesday. The thought of surgery was never brought up thankfully & I was given 2 meds to give her.

On the bridge front: my dad isn’t a carpenter, but by using the old bridge as a reference, he was able to cut, assemble, sand, and stain this bridge all by himself! He’s a pretty cool dad.

Should I Be Worried?

Noticed this, what looks like a mole, on Gemma‘s back right leg maybe two weeks ago. I wasn’t really worried about it cause it kind of just looked like a mole, but every time I find Gemma licking, she seems to be licking that spot which is irritating it. I have some spray and cream that I started putting on it today, but should I be worried and/or are there any other methods y’all can think of that I could use to get her to stop licking it?

From 64GB to 256GB, I could cry

Guys I just wanted to let someone know how released I feel now that I have the iPhone 17 with 256GB. I can not tell you the hoops I regularly jumped through on a DAILY basis trying to keep a modicum of space free on my iPhone 12mini. Half my apps were offloaded for weeks at a time until I needed to access them. Then even more were offloaded for deleted to allow for updates or to clear out cache and unnecessary data before being redownloaded.

I now have 65 apps on my phone as opposed to the 49 I originally had (included Apple apps that come on phone/are necessary in both counts)

I'm just so happy to finally be free of all that anxiety!!

Happy 5th Birthday to Ella!

Today is Ella’s 5th birthday & she got her very own rain coat she can see out of. (Her previous raincoat was a hand me down from older sister Gemma that didn’t have a clear face shield she could see through).

Do Your Boston’s sweat?

Our Boston, Ella, like to curl up on her stomach—sometimes in a ball sometimes straight against my leg—on my bed blanket I use for the dogs. If lifted after laying like this for a while she feels wet on her stomach. At first I thought it was pee, but then thought why would it be on her stomach? She is also prone to getting really really hot & red on her stomach (see photo for reference) if laying in one position long. Are the 2 related?

Not Have Access to the Syllabi is Slowly Driving me Insane

Exactly what the title says. I signed up for Fall 2026 courses in early June (after a very spur-of-the-moment application to TTU Grad School). I found out I won’t see my courses on RaiderCanvas until the first day of the semester which is insane to me. Also textbooks aren’t available yet. I’m ready to progress forward, but TTU is not 😒

Anyone have any advice on what to do until stuff appears/becomes available.

This wedding is a logistical trainwreck

My 21 year old cousin is getting married in early August to a girl my parents & I just heard of late last year when their engagement was announced on the family group chat. (A bit of past family drama is at play.)

Pretty sure everyone in the wedding party is late teens/early 20s since my cousins just turned 21 this year.

The matron of honor (that’s right matron) fell short of her responsibilities & my other, younger, cousin had to pick up her slack.

We were told a few weeks back by my uncle that a wedding shower was taking place at the bride’s parent’s house in a few weeks. Parents & I did not go.

He also said we should have received a formal invitation to the wedding. We did not. Apparently that was the grooms job. Also, we are not the only family members who contacted my uncle abt not receiving the invitation😐

We looked at their website and saw the wedding is set for a weekday. According to my uncle who’s been to 4 weddings in the last 18mths, “every single one of them was on a weekday” bc it was cheaper. Of course it was cheaper who the hell is going to take off WORK and rearrange their schedule to attend a wedding on WEEK day?

Here’s the kicker: the “Travel” section of their website, you know the place with the time and place and all those details…. Lists no venue or time! This is insane!!

We’ve already RSVP’d “not attending”

Edit: we WERE invited. My uncle, the father of the groom, asked if we got the invitation in the mail. On the RSVP page our names showed up when searching them.

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Douglas Adams

I give it 7/10. There wasn’t much restaurant 😂 It ended pretty nicely though. No cliffhanger. Stopping at book 2, heard mixed reviews on book 3 & 4.

Favorite quote: "The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it [...]" (ch 28).

Next I’ll be reading The Secret Book Society. I'm so happy to be back to a physical book. I like how fast I finished the audiobooks, but... physical books, you know?

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by: Douglas Adams

I give The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy a 7/10. Wasn’t sure what to think at first, but it grew on me. My favorite quote that really encompasses the whole novel is: “Don’t Panic.” Might be overhyped but it works.

It ended with a semi-cliffhanger so I feel the need to listen to The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe. Should be another quick & enjoyable listen.

I Didn’t Think I’d Pull It Off! (1mth, 🚫 nonessential $)

This is my first year doing the yearly bingo card and today I just completed “1 Month, non nonessential spending”!!

Ironically the month was full of 🐶, 🏥, & 🛒 $$ so my monthly spending sheet doesn't really reflect what I THOUGHT would be less spending, but it is 100% essentials only!!

What are the 1st Year Online Grad Student Must Does?

I’ll be staring TTU online this fall and I want to make sure I’m completely on top of everything.

What are some things I should do that aren’t brought up by advisors, professors, or on the Grad student checklist?

  1. Admissions/Registration wise I MUST do before the start of the Fall semester?
  2. Anything student life wise? Probably not much since I’m an online student but maybe there’s something that I haven’t heard of yet.
  3. Anything I need to do with financial aid/tuition? That’s not the basic stuff that I could just look up.
  4. Anything regarding accommodations (not, you know, applying for them)?
  5. Any area I missed that I would benefit from completing before the semester starts?

Lord of the flies ➡️ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

*Lord of the Flies* by William Golding was a reread for me. I give it 7.5/10
I still find it to be horrifying and unnerving, yet also strangely fascinating? If that makes any sense.
My favorite quote would be:
“‘Maybe \[…\] maybe there is a beast. \[…\] What I mean is…maybe it’s only us” (89).

Next up I’ll be listening to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Never read/listened to it before but my dad sometimes makes reference to the book and they just for right over my head. Now I’ll actually be able to understand what the heck he’s talking about😂

Big shift in genre between these two.
