Ring - What are you doing?

Ordered an outdoor cam from Ring on July 29. Expected delivery date, Monday August 10th.

Yesterday I still had no email with shipping info, so I connect via chat. Takes forever to get a human....

I explain the situation. They ask my order number. A few minutes go by...

"Yes, sir...your device should arrive by August 25th. They had a delay because they're out of stock."

LoL...what?

"We can refund your card, or you can wait for the item."

I guess I'll wait, but WTAF? Ring just sells products they don't even have in stock? Then doesn't bother to let the customer know there's a delay?

Great business model there, Ring. Totally cool.

A "NICE" shirt for race day

Just got this bad boy published over at Woot!

Thanks for those of you who dropped in and voted for it in the derby.

Nice Racing - $15.00 - Free shipping https://shirt.woot.com/offers/nice-racing

It plays off the "nice" meme any time the number 69 comes up in online discussion. Tried to keep it subtle and have it look like a NASCAR shirt so you can fly under the radar.

Anyway, hope you like it!

4 new shirts need votes!

Working within the theme of aging and nostalgia, I managed to come up with 4 designs for this week's derby at Woot.

If you have a second to spare me some votes, I'd be truly grateful!

Student with tattoo artist parent

Checking in for thoughts on the situation...

Just met a student who will be joining my class on Monday, and their father was with them. Turns out he's a highly respected local tattoo artist. We exchanged Instagram accounts.

I have been wanting to get more ink, and this feels like a great connection, but I also want to avoid the appearance of preferential treatment. Based on what I can gather, the student is very motivated by my subject area, and should do just fine in the course without any special treatment.

Would it be unethical of me to get tattoos from the student's father?

Would it be best to wait until next semester (after the child is no longer enrolled in my course) before getting tattoos from him?

Just curious to see. I can understand a variety of approaches being reasonable here.

Collectors or Players

Just curious to see where everybody here lands on the spectrum...

Collectors:

Buy vinyl and do their best to maintain condition, so don't typically play their records.

Player:

Buys vinyl for the love of the music and the tone. Plays their records into the ground.

Both:

Has an extensive collection but will break out a record to play from time to time...but this is rare.

Anyway...just curious. Personally I think I'm in the "both" category. Mostly because I don't have a good setup for playing my vinyl right now. All I have is an Ion USB turntable that plugs into a computer, because my primary use for it was digitizing records and sampling for music production.

On that note, if anyone has tips on storage, player/stero setups, etc, I wouldn't be mad. Feel free to drop em in the comments.

Morning. Quick question about the Magnolia parking.

We have a concert coming up there and we can buy $10 tickets for parking. I have a handicap and need to park rather close. Is the $10 necessary or is there plenty of free parking even for me?

Normal Heights has a free refrigerated and dry goods food pantry. So easy to donate and help others, especially in this economy.

I wish we had one in the South Bay. This is such an easy way to help out

What’s with El Cajon?!

Hey San Diego. My wife and myself have been renting in Kensington for the last 3 years and just got an offer on a new construction townhome in El Cajon that’s hard to pass up. Planning to buy and move.

I keep hearing wildly mixed things about EC, so I’d rather get the real read from people
who actually live there:

  1. Pockets — I know it varies a lot block to block. Which parts are genuinely nice, and which would you steer clear of? We’d be near E Main St, east of downtown EC.

  2. Safety — how much of the reputation is current vs. leftover from 15 years ago?

  3. Daily life — how rough is the summer heat compared to the coast?

  4. Rentability — if we ever move out, is there solid rental demand? Who’s renting in EC these days?

  5. Anything you wish someone had told you before moving inland?

Not trying to start a fight about El Cajon, just want an honest picture before we commit. Appreciate any input.

Edit: We drove by multiple times (day and night times). Went to a nearby grocery store it was decent.

I started seeing homeless people about 3 blocks away.

Submit your art: new DIY gallery in Mira Mesa

My ex-wife and I are using our outdoor space to create an art gallery and events space in Mira Mesa. Currently, art is posted along the street, and is available for sale on a pay-what-you-can basis. We are working to add additional gallery space in our front “yard” (no grass, just a tree), as well as event spaces in the front and our rear garden.

We will be launching officially on September 12, and are looking for local artists interested in displaying/selling art. Also interested in local food vendors, or anybody else that would like to be a part of something new and different in the area.

The main no-nos: nothing AI-generated; nothing incompatible with those causes highlighted on our flyer; nothing on fire; nothing bigger than a bicycle; nothing that violates any nuclear non-proliferation treaties.

Happy to answer any and all questions in this thread.

They have a program in Sacramento that allows you to take a shelter dog to the park, would love to see that here in SD county.

I think this is great for the caged up doggies and what a fun activity for folks who can’t have a dog in their house.

Ebike takeover 7/17/26 East County

We were going to see the Odyssey at Parkway Plaza Friday afternoon. I was walking towards the door back by 5 Guys and all of the sudden kids on ebikes started spilling out of the doors from inside the mall like it was a clown car. A seemingly neverending stream came out and then a security guard came stomping out after them yelling things like "You better get out of here, I know where you live! I know where you live!"

At this point the kids just kept riding around the entrance in circles, one frumpy kid on a mini gas bike just kept revving his little engine over and over.

Seemed like some other managers came out to get the kids to leave and at that point we were just trying to weave through them to get inside and one of the kids ran over my foot. Lol. The manager guy screamed "see now you ran over a customer" and we just went inside to get to the movie.

The whole mall was kinda weird and smelled like exhaust probably from the mini frump. Pure chaos. I did find an article about probably the same group of kids banging on cars and blocking traffic.
