I don't know whether there is an afterlife, but I desperately wish there were one because the alternative just seems unbearably unjust and cruel.

My mind literally can't fathom the idea that some people live lives filled with meaning, love, pleasure, belonging, etc. while others die after having living a life where they felt pained, alone, misunderstood, and devoid of any happiness (through no fault of their own).

I know this is considered "a leap of faith", but it's almost as if my mind needs the possibility of an afterlife to essentially cope with the massive injustices of the universe. I'd like to think that people who lead that sort of miserable life get another chance at happiness. I remember reading a bit of Nietzsche, and he opined that humans sometimes need illusions/myths to survive (though it certainly wasn't the idea of an afterlife that he had in mind). But still, perhaps this is just one of those times for me.

In other words, I completely understand why religions have posited the idea of an afterlife to their adherents. The alternative is just too emotionally unbearable and philosophically troubling for most minds to actually handle. At the end of the day, I feel I just need to admit that I don't know why certain things in this world happen, and that such things could only be known by God (which isn't to say they exist).

Anyways, just wanted to get that off my chest. Thanks for reading.

31 NB (AMAB) looking for new friends to do cool stuff with (movies, hiking, museums, etc.)

Hey there! I just thought I'd post here as I just moved to the city (West Philly) and am looking to make some new connections if the vibe is right. I am queer, neurodivergent (Audhd), a bit of a nerd, and a bit of an artist as well.

I'm very passionate about films, books, art, nature, music, animals and various intellectual topics (mainly philosophy, psychology, and theology). I consider myself a very open-minded and friendly person, and am just looking to make platonic (big emphasis on that one) friendships with people I've never met before. I'm open to doing a wide variety of things as long as we vibe. I will say I have a passion for going to the movies, spending time in nature, and visiting interesting museums, but I'm open to a lot more!

Anyways, just thought I'd post this in the hope of maybe chatting with a few peeps to see where things go.

Hope to talk soon ✌️

I feel sometimes like a lot of people I meet instantly dislike me (even though I haven't actually said anything mean or otherwise offensive). Does anyone else experience this?

I think it's my awkward presentation. A large part of me feels like I'm very hard to "read", which makes them uncomfortable. I've been told I have a very intense stare as well. But yeah, I really hate the feeling, especially because it doesn't make any fucking sense.

I just sold a pair of vintage Jensen TF-3 speakers so that I could (maybe) buy a pair of EPI 100v's. Good trade?

I feel like I'm going on a never-ending quest to get my turntable setup in proper working order. I had bought a pair of Jensen TF-3 speakers, and while they sounded much better that I thought they would (and much better than others predicted), they still weren't delivering the type of sound I was looking for.

So, I ended up putting 'em on FB Marketplace and had the good fortune of being able to sell 'em within the hour (and at the price I was asking for). I then went on a couple different sites, and searched for a pair that would better fit my needs.

I ended up going with a pair of EPI 100V speakers that are being sold for $150. They have been refoamed and recapped as well. I've been doing a fair amount of research on them, and it seems that they might be the kind of pair I've been searching for.

Might anyone here have an opinion on EPI or have experience with their speakers? I haven't closed the deal yet, so I thought I'd get some feedback on 'em before purchasing them. I'm aware that the best feedback is testing the speakers themselves, but I thought it couldn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion.

Would a saw mill (or someplace else) be able to sell me a couple tree stumps? I had an idea that I'd basically use them as alternatives to metal speaker stands for my turntable. Or would doing so be a bad idea?

Also, would I have to do much work to the wood itself to make it safe it safe for indoor use? I'd appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks.

Do you think a pair of Jensen TF-3'S will pair well with a Pioneer SX-737 receiver?

I just bought a pair of them off Craigslist, and they're said to be both refoamed and in good working condition. I thought it'd be interesting to pair two pieces of equipment that are from around the same era.

If they disappoint, I'll probably just sell the speakers to someone else and buy a new pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers for 200. I guess I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Jensen at all?

Finally got my turntable set up! I'm so happy and pleased ☺️

First off, I know it's not recommended that I place the turntable on top of the receiver. It's just there for a day due to current lack of space. But yeah, I'm super happy with how this turned out. I bought a Fluance RT80 for 250, a pair of Edifier R1280T speakers for 150, and a Pioneer SX-737 that I bought for 40 bucks from a thrift store about a decade ago.

Fortunately, the receiver only required a cleaning (which cost me about 75), so I got extremely lucky there. All in all, it cost me about 500 bucks.

I'm looking forward to enhancing it at some point in the future. Would anyone have any advice as to where I should start? My first thought was either the speakers or the cartridge/stylus. Any advice?

I just bought a Fluance RT80, and am planning on hooking it up to a Pioneer SX-737. Will the Pioneer create a better sound than the preamp that's included in the turntable?

Whenever I hook up my speakers to my new turntable, my speakers always begin to emit a low buzzing noise. My best guess is that it's the relatively low quality of the preamp that's built into the turntable.

Luckily, I bought a Pioneer SX-737 years ago at a thrift store. I recently bought it to a repair shop and after they inspected it, they said it actually worked great and really only needed a good cleaning.

I'm curious if hooking it up will eliminate the buzzing sound, because even though it's really low sounding, it's still audible and kind of ruins the entire point of having a turntable.

Is it worth getting this unit serviced?

This is a Pioneer SX-737. I bought it at a thrift shop years ago for 40 bucks. It obviously looks amazing, but is in obvious need of a cleaning and servicing. I guess I'm just wondering if doing so is worthwhile and if this unit is any good. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

Is it worth getting this unit serviced?

This is a Pioneer SX-737. I bought it at a thrift shop years ago for 40 bucks. Obviously, it looks amazing. It still works and everything, but is most likely in sore need of a tuneup and cleaning.

I don't really know much about the unit itself and thought it might be wise to get a second opinion on it. Any advice would be deeply appreciated, thanks!
