Trying to push music feels like alchemy (WARNING: Venting)

Without connections, every way to get popular feels like a long shot. Right now, I'm trying to push my friend's music while I take a break from making my own and it seems impossible. I'm trying to have hope but at this point I feel like I care more about my friend getting big then myself. I thought if I can try pushing their music from the distance I can learn strategies. I never wanted to get into marketing because it seems like a scummy business but that's kind of what I've been trying to do. I have alt accounts on YouTube that I make playlists with and try to keep active while watching their videos, I have 2 reddit profiles where I post their music. He doesn't perform live and maybe that can help. Every strategy online seems silly or there's some other guy who's like, "That other strategy is bad, actually", and everything I do feels small. I really believe in his music and I think it can reach a wider audience in the mainstream. He's just a rapper who's a little alternative but I really think he's unique to stand out but accessible enough to get big. He's been making music for 10 years but only has more than 100 subs (some are dead accounts like his actual dead dad) on yt and 5 followers on Spotify. It really feels like knowing people in the industry is the only real way to even get a little big and I've just been depressed lately. This is a very emotional post and very venty but I can't talk about this with anyone.
