Phil Jackson arrived in '99 he immediately tried to get Kobe traded before he ever coached Kobe. Part of the reason Shaq+Kobe Lakers were perceived to be so toxic was because they aired dirty laundry to media/public which was something they learned & encouraged to do by Phil Jackson.
P. Jax arrived in '99 he immediately tried to get Kobe traded, Lakers Owner Jerry Buss instantly nixed the idea. Kobe knew how Phil was attempting to use him on the team in a manipulatative manuever to stroke Shaq's ego.
