Info for if you are wanting to get the RSV monoclonal antibody for your child in GP

I'm sharing this information for any parents who are looking to protect their infants/children from RSV this season. My daughter set me to work researching this for her baby, born in July this year, after we learned from public health that the baby doesn't qualify for the (public health covered) protection this year.

Babies born between Nov 2026 and April 2027 qualify for the antibody, as well as other high risk infants, more info here.

For the rest of us, we have to pay. It is expensive, a bit over $900. But the Mint Travel Clinic can order it and they have a nurse that can administer it. There may be other places that can do it as well, this is just where I found had it and where we're going through.

If you're unfamiliar with RSV, it can be dangerous. It isn't, usually. For most, it's just a cold, but for others, it can cause long term issues like it did for 2 of my other kids, who were born before this antibody was developed. 1 of my sons had it twice, and the second time, he ended up in NICU for a week at 7 years old, and both kids ended up with reactive airways, which resulted in them missing 1-2 months of school every single year because when they got any sort of illness, their airways completely shut down. This is the reason I'm paying for this protection for my grandbaby.

This is not a recommendation to get the antibody. This is information on how to get it in GP, and why I think parents should consider it. There is no judgement if you decide you aren't interested, or are opposed to it.

Alberta Canada, family doc suggested sequencing

I'm not sure what exactly I want to know, so hopefully someone can filter through the details and point me in the right direction.

My mom, born in 1937 and now passed, we now understand was ADHD, probably AuDHD. All her 5 kids are high functioning autism and/or ADHD, and all the biological kids from myself and my 4 siblings are the same. There's also a lot of extreme hypermobility and Sjogren's, plus a lot of other issues that we can trace to our mom, with other issues like heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis, coming in strong from my dad, born in 1929, also passed. Most of the women in the family have terrible menstruation, perimenopause, and menopause.

I'm in Alberta, Canada, and cannot get any genetic testing, period. They could test for Ehlers Danlos but only if an immediate family member died from an aneurysm. I was able to get the the group of blood tests for Sjogren's, which came back negative, but the doc figures I, and a couple of my kids, still have it, it just sometimes doesn't show on the tests.

So my doc suggested using the DNA testing from the US sequencing site. I point blank said, it's not medical testing, can she act on anything that's found? She said she could and would. It's impossible to get referrals to most specialists here unless you're obviously seriously in medical trouble.

I've been researching the sequencing service for the better part of a year and I just don't know. Would knowing what genes are responsible for our genetic mess help with anything? Gene therapy to help non life threatening issues is a long ways off, in a country that uses the public health care system (which I support, but it has its downsides).

I'd really appreciate some opinions from people who understand this kind of thing. I only have a very basic grasp on it and while the nerd part of my brain absolutely wants to see the data of my DNA, I don't know if it's actually useful or actionable.

Fast food training, online at home pay?

My son's first job is fast food. They had him do 2 weeks of 1-3 hours a day of online training at home, then he started working in the store. His first check only included the hours he worked in store. I suggested he ask his boss if he was supposed to be paid for the training, and was told something along the lines of needing to get approval to pay him for 3 hours, and they'd let him know. Apparently most stores have them do this training *in store*, so he definitely would have gotten more than 3 hours pay. He didn't track his hours exactly but he did something like 80 modules in those 2 weeks.

Unsure what his next step should be, if they choose not to pay him for his actual time. All I can find online is that he should get paid for that time, not so much what to do if they underpay.

Edit: Thanks for the advice, I'm going to suggest to him that he considers it a lesson learned, to get details on offsite training pay, in the future.

Flat roof, only option for repair is torch down rolled roofing but can't source base layer

I have a wellsite trailer with a flat roof. There's a section about 10'x6' with rotten 2x8 "trusses" and plywood. The 2x8 are crumbling to touch so I have to get this fixed *now* before the whole thing caves in.

We are *very* rural Canada, and the only somewhat appropriate material I can source, is a couple rolls of torch down rolled roofing, but the little hardware store doesn't have the base layer.

They suggested tar, particularly for the edges and seams, and have different kinds in stock. Can I just apply tar and use the torch on the rolled roofing (not the plywood, of course) and hope to have at least a couple years of no leaks?

Or any other suggestions, keeping in mind I can't wait and am very limited on what I'm able to source quickly? Getting anything shipped usually takes 2 weeks, even amazon.

Iron/Manganese; which AIO?

We live in the middle of the oil fields in NW Alberta. Some wells are great, ours is not, with very high iron and manganese that our greensand filter struggles with, and it smells like sulfur and engine oil. Our filtration for the last 9 years has been an ispring spin down sediment filter, then a rainfresh greensand filter, then a rainfresh water softener. It at least reduces staining to almost nothing and reduces the smell. Drinking/cooking water goes through an additional 6 stage ispring RO system.

Anyway, the greensand filter's control head and brine tank is so damaged from all the crap that I was going to replace them, but found AIO systems. Greensand filter parts will be over $600 and the AIO systems are about $1400 so I'm leaning towards just a new system after learning about them, but I'm not sure which one. Rainfresh has been good to us, but the Aquatell system seems better, it mentions the katalox media that seems to be what we want, and rainfresh doesn't.

Just wondered if anyone has an informed opinion if the rainfresh is suitable or if we'd be better off with Aquatell.

Has anyone made a DCC* themed room, house, or display/feature piece?

*Dungeon Crawler Carl

Title. Just wondering if anyone has created a DCC safe room or personal space, maybe the Desperado Club? Or a giant pair of heart covered boxes, a Purple Tiara, etc? I'm thinking I'm going to make my horde house (which is basically empty) all DCC themed but I'm sooooo not creative.

Most new build, first time in over 10 years

*title should say mostly new build 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for the advice on my last post, we went back and forth on upgrading just the GPU, or the whole thing, and my son decided to spend the extra money and we ordered parts for an almost whole build. Because he already had almost new 32gb ram, we opted to basically build it around that. Thank god for parts picker!

I'm getting older and it's been a long time since I built a PC, and I had a heck of a time with this case, but I was able to get it built, it started right up, everything runs and windows was even kind enough to activate right away, first time with no problems.

My only potential concern is there's no post beep. I finished at midnight and again, getting old so I'm going to bed. So I'm not getting into bios until tomorrow to see if it's something in there I need to fiddle with. There's absolutely no issues that I can see with it. If anyone has any ideas (maybe post beeps aren't always a thing anymore?), I'd love to hear it.

Appreciating Matt Dinniman more this morning

I feel like there's not a sub or anywhere that's right to say this in, because the rise in AI acceptance has risen so drastically, but I'm hoping it'll work here. Just need to get it out.

One of my favourite authors went full ham down the AI hole, an author with a decade or more of self publishing success and a 2024 article explaining why AI was so bad for writers. He's now using AI for both his writing and cover art, and I'm feeling kind of low-key heartbroken, almost like I've been dumped, which is ridiculous, I know lol

I returned his 3 recent audiobooks and pre-orders that are using AI (all out within about 2 months of each other) - there's 2 more that I can't return. If I'd been paying attention I'd have noticed the odd increase in releases. I did notice the writing had changed, but I attributed it to getting an editor. He's apparently gotten a helper of some kind recently and it crossed my mind maybe there's a Misery situation because his online presence and writing has changed and not for the better, but it's probably just AI.

I truly, earnestly, appreciate Matt Dinniman all the more now because of his stance on AI. Please never change. I hate that finding non-AI art and writing now practically requires what feels like a full police investigation to make sure you're supporting someone who puts in the time and effort.

How to totally freak out your entire family in 3 seconds, just before bed

If you search for DCC sounds here, you can find a variety of them, to use for ring tones, notifications, etc. I use the Prepotente scream for incoming texts from my husband, for example 😂

So I've had a bad habit of staying up way too late since WoW Housing came out and decided to set a 10pm alarm to remind myself that I am not a computer and actually do need sleep before dementia sets in, but it needs to be notable so I pay attention to it.

Enter the AI's creepy "I'm touching myself" cackle-giggle.

All my adult kids (who I can't get into DCC... yet) have been hanging out at some point when that alarm goes off and the looks on their faces are absolutely unhinged.

I just wanted to share, in case you, like me, enjoy the option to make your family wonder wtf is wrong with your phone, and then you, when you start laughing hysterically.

Flat roof has a sagging section, really need help here.

Hoping to get some advice. I never get responses to my posts in any of these types of groups when I ask for help, but this is urgent as the room this is concerning is one my pregnant daughter is moving into and the baby is due in a few weeks.

I'm in Alberta, -40f to 90f temps, some years we get outrageous amounts of snow and rain.

We have a skidshack, 12x60, mid 90s construction. Flat roof. It's in great shape except this section of roof. Thanks to a knee injury and surgery last year, I didn't get up on it and do the yearly silicone sealant, and it leaked in one spot. Theres a sagging 10'x4' section. We just tore out part of the ceiling and the whole section needs to be replaced, it's rotten and moldy all the way through, and we have to DIY.

I'm assuming we'll use EPDM. But I need resources on how to properly make this patch. I assume we rip out the affected part of the roof and ceiling, lay new vapor barrier and particle board, but I don't know how to properly install the EPDM and anything else like flashing, and how to seal the original section and the patch so they don't leak.

I'd love to build a roof over but trusses are out of our price range.

Any other advice is welcome too.

What is this scam they're running?

I was then told the credit would expire on June 1, 2027.

Lest anyone thinks I'm terribly rude, I did thank them and wished them a good day lol

How is the new narrator?

Hi Outlanders. I read over the rules and tried to get a feel for this sub before asking, and I think this is ok?

I've been a book/audiobook fan for 10+ years, I started with the books then switched to audio when I realized I loved Davina Porter's voice, a rarity. I've listened to them all a dozen times, but it's been a few years since I did a relisten and have been wondering about the new narrator.

I listened to the sample and enjoy her voice for the "narrator" portion, but it doesn't give any indication how she is with character voices, building excitement and sadness, etc. Does she do decent male voices, and a variety of voices where you can tell who is speaking? What about appropriate emotions the character is feeling when they speak?

Yes, I could buy the first audio to try it out, and I probably will, but I was hoping to get other Davina Porter fan's opinions.

Are pre-built stairs coming?

There's a few items on WoWDB for 12.1 (build 12.1.0.68209) that are *not* marked DNT (BUT STILL NOT GUARANTEED TO BE AVAILABLE AT LIVE, IF EVER), notably some pre-built stairs:

https://housing.wowdb.com/decor/23709/wide-wooden-staircase-23709/

https://housing.wowdb.com/decor/23710/spiraling-wooden-stairs-23710/

There's also floor/wall tiles like:

And probably my favourite of this build's items:

Pelvic floor therapy at home

Hi, nice to "meet" you all. I guess I belong here. I'm sorry for the scattered information below, my brain is a bit of a mess. I am intentionally leaving out a lot of detail, I get way too wordy and this would be a novel if I didn't, with the possible side effect that I might be leaving out something relevant. ADHD brain is fun.

47, 4 adult kids. AuDHD, Ehlers Danlos, Sjogrens, lots of dysautonomia symptoms but they're not killing me so the doctors won't refer.

I started BHRT early 2025 through a specialist hormone clinic that cost way too much. We played with dosing of progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone for a year. My periods stopped when I started taking hormones. I haven't had a period in over a year and the family doc considers me in menopause.

I stopped taking hormones a few months ago, they really weren't helping me, or actively working against me, like any dose of testosterone with any dose of the other 2, made me irrationally angry all the time.

2 weeks ago, I started taking clonidine for the hot flashes, which other than the extra brain fog and bladder problems, is easily the worst symptom. I don't sweat and I overheat too easy. It takes me an hour to cool down from a hot flash. It's less fun than it sounds lol. It's too early to know for sure if the clonidine is really helping (on the lowest dose, which is increasing today) but they've reduced in frequency.

Ok, onto the point of my post. My family doc says the urogynocology clinic is going to require I do pelvic floor therapy before they'll agree to a bladder lift surgery, which I think is fair, but I am very rural in Canada and the nearest one of those is 1.5 hours away with a long wait list. What I'm hoping for here, is a legit website or video(s) with the real exercises that one does to strengthen the pelvic floor, so I can just get started without waiting. I've googled it but I can't trust anything I find with all the junk from AI and random videos that I don't know are from actual therapist who know what they're doing. Maybe your therapist have shared videos or something that's been helpful.

What's causing my evening room to be immovable?

See screenshots. When I try to move my evening room, all the docking dots disappear, but I'm able to move every other room. Any ideas what is causing it?

The House of a Thousand Stolen Ideas

My entire house is a constant WIP, but I've finally got to the point where I'm happy with it overall. You might recognize many things/ideas in every screenshot, because I lean heavily on this great group and the Cozy Keep guild to make my very uncreative brain work in ways I don't think it was intended to LOL

That is a total of 78 Boralus Bottle Lamps currently placed in my house, whew!

Thanks for everyone who contributes to the Housing community!

Just in case, not that I think my house is all that great: if you use my photos in your content to make money, you gotta give credit :)

Well this is a fun bug, and it's so weird I don't know if I can explain it right. I haven't seen this one posted anywhere. I somehow manage to find the weirdest stupid bugs!

I decided to redo my library, which is made in an empty stairwell, and figured I'd attach a second empty stairwell (with a closet inbetween to avoid the known bug) on the 2nd floor of the existing library. That way if nothing I did was better than what I had, I could just keep the existing, and having it so close to the existing library made it easy to move elements I wanted to keep.

Since you know, we don't have a *save* option yet.

So I got to the point where I knew I'd keep the new library, and set to moving all the attached rooms so I could delete the exiting library and put the new into place.

It all went exactly as I planned, I got almost everything put back into place, until I went to put one of the closets on the second floor (which is part of a window scene).

There is no second floor, it's a blank void, and it shows there's a third floor, but there's nothing there.

I cannot select the closet I want (stored on the first floor), select the 2nd (or 3rd) floor, and move it to the spot I want on the new library's 2nd floor; it removes the closet from my cursor, which I've never had an issue with before.

So many hours wasted :(
