Head Marketing

Saw that post about the billboard for Head. In your opinion, what marketing might have helped Head become successful? Maybe either positioning it in advance for what it was trying to do or hitting the right market for it?

I watched it once and certain song segments work but it doesn't work as a whole for me (just my opinion). I don't think anything really could have saved it except as some kind of dare marketing.

Hardtail reco for older bicyclist new to MTB?

My son recently started to get into mountain biking. I'm 56. I rented a Norco Sight 29er and really liked it as it was easier to go over roots.. etc. He has his own bike and likes me to come with. I can't afford to rent a bike each time.

I'd like to buy a used hardtail because they are in the price range I can afford now (money's tighter for me) and are cheaper than the ones with suspension on both tires. My son believes a hardtail is "good enough" for me knowing my money situation.

A) does a hardtail still provide enough suspension for an older bicyclist who's newer to the sport to enjoy it and lessen some of the jarring parts (I'll stick to greens anyway) and

B) what brands at the lower range are usually good bets. There are lots of Cannondales, Specialized, Diamond and Trek for sale for around $250 and that's a good price point for me

Edit: after reading responses I'm going to focus more on a features list and see if I can find those features for a reasonable price. It sounds like a hardtail will be fine for me but I can't just say brand X is well known/respected so any hardtail from any year is going to be a decent investment.

Why was the surf theme so prevalent?

I'm newer to the Beach Boys and this may be a dumb question but why were the early Beach Boys songs so heavily focused on surf, summer, girls, cars? We're they just pursuing a lucrative theme after early songs sold well, record company pressure, or was this due to Brian's hyper focused personality and this is what interested him at the time?

Local radio line in "I Wanna Go Back" 1986?

When I was going to college in 1986 and IWGB by Eddie Money was out and really popular I remember our local radio station played the song and the first line was "I was listening to Z104" (the local station) instead of "I was listening to the radio".

Does anyone at the time remember a localized line for their own city's radio station? I am 100% sure I'm remembering this right. I'm guessing it was a think Eddie did to juice local airplay (and it was damn smart!)

Gboard not launching in email due to AI assist

Edit: rotating phone to landscape then back to portrait had helped many users.

On Android when I get some emails now and do a reply I get the AI assistant grey box that says swipe for suggestions. The Gboard keyboard will not launch and there is no way to do so. I've disabled smart assistant on Gmail but it still happens. Is anyone else having a problem where the keyboard simply is not available on reply?

Kona Honzo - dropper seat won't rise

Son just got a Kona Honzo. Moved the dropper seat lever in toward the center a bit for comfort. Dropper seat wouldn't rise anymore. Per videos it seemed like this was due to cable slack, which I tightened. Everything looks normal but the seat still stays in the bottom position. Nothing else changed except the lever moving about 3/4 inch along the handlebar. Any other ideas? Seems weird it's not just the cable issue. thank you

Tech/Project manager jobs at Sound Transit?

Has anyone here gotten hired at Sound Transit in the tech area as a project manager (perm or temp?). I'm from the consumer app tech world with experience in more back end dev, ML, and workflows. I can't even get a screener with Sound Transit. Are they just looking only for people with experience in transit and capital projects? I'm a huge transit supporter and would love to be a part but can't get a foot in. I'm open to temp, part time, whatever.

Most insightful Beatles quote about another Beatle

What do you think is the most insightful comment one Beatle has made about another Beatle? Something that showed you an angle about the other or revealed a deeper truth.

For me it was when George said Ringo was a Beatle before he joined the group, he just hadn't entered yet. It's profound.

DLR with longer hair

We know Dave's had some hair challenges for awhile. I don't think the short hair suits him and he looks weird, but was curious what a longer hairstyle would look like on him. I know he's not able to grow it out like this anymore but with longer hair and current phase he looks more credible. Especially since he's still thin and fit.

Low Grill/Griddle combo

We have a propane grill for camping but it has a dome top and takes up a lot of space in our car. Is there such a thing as a grill/griddle combo that runs on Coleman propane cans but has a low top and packs well? Trying to find the best compact option. Don't need a stove but rather a grill. Griddle is optional for me. Thanks.

Alternative Movie Scripts

I was reading that throughout 1966 and 1967 other scripts for a Monkees movie were rejected. We all know how Head came about but does anyone know what the other scripts kicked around for the Monkees were? Since those discussions happened when the Monkees were more popular I wonder if they were more conventional (in the Monkees sense) due to being more careful with a lucrative brand. I'm thinking they were rejected simply for being too careful and too much like the show.

Bike derailleur misalignment fix?

I replaced the back tire as it was worn. Put it back on on and noticed a chain rubbing situation. Looked more closely and saw this. Can anyone help me get this properly placed again? I'm not sure how this happened. Thanks.

Other Contract Offers?

It's well known Cohn drove a hard bargain and never gave the Stooges any credit for how popular they were. Does anyone know why the Stooges never got any offers from other studios? Some leverage with other offers would have helped them immensely during contract negotiations. Even if Cohn had right of first refusal it seems like other studios would have thought they were a valuable enough property to try to sign.

Last one still not hired?

Was part of a large RIF in Feb. Most of the people I was close with have gotten new gigs. I'm the last one not hired. Has anyone gone through this? While it's not like I'm not enjoying the break to some limited extent I also am getting up every day trying to find something, am taking online classes to learn new tech skills. I am in my 50s which I wonder if earlier when I got interviews worked against me but I never got any weird vibes during them and I don't think I come across as slow or not with it.

Happy for those who did get gigs but hurts to feel like an outlier.

Template for Policy Positions

We have seen often that it is too easy to elide things based on how you frame positions. Propose that every political position requires some kind of template so that soft pedaling issues is lessened. Something like:

  1. What is the position and its constitutional underpinnings

  2. What is the actual implementation of the position (not just "trans gender rights " but what does the actual implementation of that mean? Includes timings and expected dependency changes.

  3. Cost and how will it be funded and where will that money come from (new taxes, cuts to other program, what are you offering up from your own side's budget to pay)

  4. Success metrics and time frame and how you will measure and validate

  5. Graduation criteria and how you will rescind the policy if not met

  6. Edge cases (this is the hardest one because it requires poking holes in your own story and offering those up)

Too often parties are unwilling to address these proactively and a tennis match media is unwilling to ask these of candidates. What else might be valuable?

Curley

I've seen the Curley spelling off and on on various settings (on things done during the 30s). Was there a time this was official? Because the adjective is not spelled that way. I thought it was just occasional poor spelling but I also saw some shorts where it was spelled this way as well.
