Friends, Redditors, Lend Me Your High Concepts

I am building a random High Concept generator and explainer and I would like your High Concept ideas! For extra internet points, I'd also like to hear how each part of the high concept could give permissions (Fate Accelerated style), be Invoked, and be Compelled (my game uses Rewarded, but the applications are the same). All of this is going to be picked through and put together into a website where a random high concept can be made, complete with inspirations for how it can be used in play.

To clarify a bit more, I am going to be breaking high concepts into 2 or three parts, which can be randomly recombined with other parts of other high concepts. I have a test version up already with a limited number of entries that produced this on my first click of Random this morning:

You Are A

Wannabee High Society Boxer

Personal  - Wannabee

Permission To:

Talk yourself up, be dismissed as harmless

Invoke When:

Pushing yourself beyond actual skills, bluffing

Reward For:

Trying a task you aren't ready for, forcing yourself into authority

Nature - High Society

Permission To:

Spend money, demand privilege, have servants

Invoke When:

Getting into exclusive clubs, meeting politicians, getting rare objects

Reward For:

Getting robbed, being arrogant, petty social maneuvering

Profession - Boxer

Permission To:

Knock people out, take blows, have a reputation

Invoke When:

Brawling, striking first, enduring pain, telling fight stories

Reward For:

Getting challenged, using fists instead of words, old wounds

Running a Panel on Unusual TTRPG Mechanics at Too Many Games this Weekend

If your at Too Many Games in Philly this weekend, come see me Sunday at 2PM for my panel Don't Tell Me the Odds! If any of you are going there, hopefully we'll get a chance to meet up.

Not everything comes down to rolling dice. During this panel we'll discuss and demonstrate unusual but effective methods for resolving actions in roleplaying games and highlight the standout games that use them, from older phenomena like the original Vampire LARP to more indy games like Dread! , the Jenga-based RPG.

Join a game of Glorious Fate

If you enjoy rules light narrative RPGs, come try out Glorious Fate. Glorious Fate is my version of Fate Accelerated, taking the already rules-light system and stripping it down to create the fastest, most engaging and creative experience I can manage. If your familiar with Fate systems, expect everything that makes Fate unique, including a great emphasis on Aspects (written words) and roleplaying with new streamlined actions and conflict. You can download the rules for free here:

Glorious Fate in 10 Pages | Patreon

And I'd love to talk about the system in the comments.

In the next 3 weeks I am running 3 one-shot demo games of Glorious Fate in 3 different settings, two of them of my own design. All Followers on Patreon are welcome, including the Free tier. Join for an invite to the Game Map Discord where the games will be run.

Friday June 19th, 8PM EDT: Skyjail Break, a Sky Pirates Oneshot

Wednesday June 24th, 8PM EDT: Jungle Temple, a Masters of Umdaar Oneshot (this game will be using the setting of Evil Hat's Masters of Umdaar, with the rules of Glorious Fate)

Friday July 3rd, 8PM EDT: Senseless Violence, a Criminal Spirits oneshot.

Forum Quest Using Fate Rules

Last week I asked here for advice on running a forum quest (a kind of interactive fiction) with Fate, and got some good feedback. Today I have launched the quest.

Criminal Spirits Quest- Mobster Era Urban Fantasy

Come by and vote on our character and I welcome any feedback on the quest mechanics and setting here and in the Spacebattles thread.

Fate Accelerated as a Forum Quest

I've been thinking about adapting Fate to run as a forum quest for the last few weeks now, and I think I am going to take the plunge to start one soon. I was wondering if anyone here has actually done so? I've played and run Fate as play by post in the past, but never using a Quest structure and mechanics. For those who don't know, a quest is a kind of interactive writing where one person is doing the writing and then presenting choices for the players on the forum to vote on. This usually includes character and setting/adventure choices in the beginning and then how the character will act later.

Fate Accelerated's approaches always seemed like they would be a really interesting mechanic to use in them, but I have never seen one done. Has anyone else? I'd love to hear what worked and didn't work for others doing anything similar.

Holding it in your hand makes it really feel real

Got the first prints of Glorious Fate and Trouble today, just in time for a game at Mid Island Collectibles. They both look and feel great!

Trouble, my third Criminal Spirits adventure

My third adventure for Criminal Spirits is now on DTRPG and Patreon!

Trouble is an adventure for Criminal Spirits campaigns, where a simple bar fight escalates into huge trouble with the mob, the cops, the church and ancient Greeks. Trouble can be played as a mini-campaign or used as a source for NPCs and encounters with the denizens of Criminal Spirits.

Trouble, along with 2 other adventures for Criminal Spirits, is available at the $5 tier on Patreon and can be purchased on DTRPG.

Trouble on DTRPG

Criminal Spirits is my 1921 Prohibition-Era Urban Fantasy setting for Glorious Fate, which I aim to bring to crowd funding when I have 100 followers on Patreon. You can see what's already available on Patreon here: What's Here? | Patreon. More content is posted every month for both free and paid supporters.

Critique My Encounter

I am working on a number of smaller encounters, meant to be playable in one session, for my setting Criminal Spirits. The first one I've finished is attached. I'd like to ask for opinions and advice on the format I've decided on for these, as well as the adventure itself.

There are some limitations. The point of the format is that every adventure will fit into a single page and I'm not going to be budging from that. I also am not willing to reduce the text size any further than it is, so word count is very limited. Please consider that when making suggestions. The frame and colors are placeholders to show how it will be laid out and preserve space for what be hopefully be artwork and actual visual design in the future if this ever gets crowdfunded.
