Hit my car really hard and fast (like coming off a freeway exit ramp fast) against a curb while turning and this is the only damage. Is there anything I should look for?

Unpopular Opinion: Imam Hanifa’s criticism is misguided because he simply used his brain.

I get traditionalists are following people of the book, but you have to use your brain too - issues of fiqh you can’t just have 1 strict rule. Imam’s Abu Hanifa’s use of analogy and reasoning makes sense.

I'm sorry but I am cannot follow the Shafi and Hanbali school of thought. I have to use soap one THEN water 6 times for dog saliva on anything? It's impossible to clean my entire car like that, especially without getting onto my body. I already took two 1hr+ showers trying to clean my body.

How much does it cost to replace a broken BMW key (I locked myself out the car with the key inside). I don’t need a physical key or comfort access.

Edit: The app worked again

When following fiqh, do y’all follow madhab almost exclusively or take the most stricter opinion?

I am Hanafi and I find myself erring to the stricter opinion, regardless of madhab (unless it is a minority opinion). However while I ”feel good” in doing that, it is definitely makes things harder on me and sometimes I cannot deal with it and I deal with hardships.

For example dog saliva najasah:

Shafi considers all parts of the dog najis, and nothing but dirt once and water afterwards, for a total of 7 times will do to clean. You *MUST* use dirt according to the original opinion or it will not be clean and it **will** be impure and everything touched through wetness.

Hanbali is similar to Shafi.

Hanafi only considers the saliva najis and you need to clean it 3 times with water.

Maliki considers it pure.

In Hanbali and Shafi fiqh, if you don’t wash it 7 times, 1st with dirty you are ritually impureand WILL be doing Ibadah in a ritually impure state, and you will be living life in an impure state - especially if you don’t purify yourself properly the first time and ensure it didn’t spread to other items via wetness. If you didn’t do it properly then well its a big concern but there is no other option. This is the opinion of 2/4 of the schools of thought so automatically half of them believe you are doing Ibadah wrong, and how can we live knowing that? The ultimate goal is Allah’s mercy and hereafter but to get that we need to do Ibadah correctly, and in this madhab opinions - it is extremely hard to get into that position. If we didn’t the najasah, or wash it immediately is our dryers najis? our faucets? tooth brush? car keys? etc. also how do we purify electronics with dirt?

I don’t understand because Hanbali and Shafi are very strict on taking Hadith literally, and the hadith is: Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed: "The purification of the vessel of one of you, if a dog licks it, is to wash it seven times, the first time with soil."

So this should only apply to utensils if we are taking it literally. Why does Shafi and Hanbali madhab no and extrapolate it?

What do you guys think?

What is the Salafi position on dog impurity?

Assalaamu 'Alaikum. I posted this on the traditional Muslim subreddit but I couldn’t cross post here but I am interested in the salafi opinion on this.

My question is about dog najasah. I work in a hospital that has therapy dogs, and one sniffed the lower part of my sweater and shirt, as well as my pants pocket area. This was in the elevator. My sweater was button-up and open at the time, so the dog's nose likely went underneath it and made contact with my shirt as well. Since a dog's nose is wet, and some Islamic sources consider this najis, I purified the spot at work by rubbing it with damp soil, then dry soil, then washing with water 7-8 times. However, I applied the soil using my fingers directly, rather than a cloth, towel, or brush. I'm concerned this may not have been sufficient, since the surface contact made by fingers is different from that of a cloth; fingers are curved and only touch the fabric at certain points and ridges as they move across it, leaving gaps in between where no real contact occurs, whereas a flat cloth or towel presses against and covers the entire surface continuously. So I'm unsure whether every part of the affected spot actually received direct soil contact, or whether some portions were missed.

At home, I went further and wiped my entire outfit with dirt, then washed it 7-8 times, and did the same with my body — but I didn't wash my hair. Could najasah have spread to my hair, especially since I performed wudu (which involves wiping the head) before purifying at home? I'm not sure why I skipped my hair — maybe I assumed it was unaffected, or meant to deal with it later and forgot.

Also, my car keys were in my pocket the whole time and I never purified them with soil, but water may have passed through during the purification process. Does that mean najasah could have transferred to them?

I kept the keys in a plastic bag afterward to purify properly later, but today I accidentally put them through the washing machine. When I noticed while transferring clothes to the dryer, my car alarm started going off, so I grabbed the keys in a rush — possibly spreading impurity to the washing machine, dryer, car, and door. My mother has since placed the keys in a bowl of rice to dry them, and I'm concerned that's now a contaminated vessel, given the hadith about dogs and utensils.

I know the Maliki position is more lenient, but I'm not comfortable following it. I'm Hanafi, but I do follow Hanbali or Shafi'i rulings when they're stricter.

Please advise.

BMW PHEV owners - at what mileage are you waiting to replace the HVAC battery? How much are you budgeting?

Currently on 76,000 miles and the battery is fine but obviously unlike traditional ICE cars, batteries wear out and lose miles. So I’m wondering what everyone else is doing on their PHEVs? What mileage are you going to replace the HVAC battery and are you going to use the original one or use one with bigger capacity?

I see that i3 owners are getting Chinese packs but I believe be they aren’t allowed to be sold in the US now, correct if I’m wrong.

How much are you budgeting as well? Probably looking to see if I can get it all done under $10,000. By the time my battery wears out I’m sure there will be a ton of independent shops that can easily work on high voltage systems for affordable prices.

What are some alcohol-free establishments that hosts viewing parties for the World Cup? Not FIFA-Fan fest or Shell Stadium, or a hookah lounge.

Even with the Fan-fest, looks like they serve alcohol and when there’s celebrations some folks are spraying their drinks all around.

Looking for completely alcohol-free establishments. Thanks

Has anyone ever a seen a woman with $25k, $50K or even $100K requirement ever get married? (Of which it is all paid in full (as it should be) and neither her or the man is from wealthy families?)

I’m a guy asking this.

Just wondering because I see all these requirements on my FYP and genuinely don’t see how these folks are getting married, especially in this economy where everyone EVERYTHING is cooked.

Though tbh I think I’m just chronically online and looking irl, people are way well off than they make it out to be online.

Nevertheless with how common I see these requirements from ladies, my assumption is that there are men out there willing to do this, which is why they are asking in the first place.

Now actually for the $25K seems reasonable but the trade off is a very small wedding but have y’all seen any that is $25K and a large wedding?

How does so many car manufacturers be able to stay afloat throughout the decades, considering how much competition there is?

Literally so many different manufacturers, models, etc. yet many of these brands have stayed solvent for decades, how?

Not to mention some automotive groups have insane amount of brands under them.

Like Citroen, SEAT, Chrysler, Dodge, BMW, Mini, SMART, Chevrolet, etc. and I’m sure there’s model sharing and rebadging between these companies but those are far in and in between - rather almost all of them are unique models. Like there’s no way Alfa Romero sold enough to recoupe their costs from the Stelio and Guilo.

You’d think this is all unsustainable and we’ll only have a few brands that covers everything. Economy car? Civic or Corolla. Truck? Hilux or F150. Crossover/SUV? RAV4 or CRV, etc. and then maybe a luxury/sporty derivative.

I mean you already see companies like Ford and Chevrolet consolidating and dropping out of sedans, but usually this isn’t the case.

Are there just that big of a market for cars?

Are G30 evaporators a one and done issue?

Very expensive job, but if it’s a long term car it’s something to keep in mind. So wanting to see if it’s a one or done issue or if you should ensure you have pocket full of cash of all times if you’re aiming for at least 200,000+ miles.

How much would Houston revenue generate from a congestion tax for those coming into city limits?

Well the answer is around $273,000,0000.

Reading the mayoral state of the city, the mayor stated that the city have an extra 700,000 cars that come into the city everyday, not sure if this is correct.

At a congestion tax of $1.5 per car as being fair, that will estimate to $273,000,000 in annual revenue (weekdays only).

I think this is a great way for the city to gain revenue for the extra services it provides for the folks that come into the city but don’t live here, and folks that don’t like us and/or our way of life.

There can be exceptions for people around the weird city limits in the outskirts like near 99, 290 and such and are right on the city boundary.

Unfortunately I don’t think the state government will be on board.

Dog najis transfer question

It’s been weeks and I’m still debating this, I asked /r/Islam but I don’t know.

I work at a hospital and a therapy dog came up and sniffed me, I understand that a wet nose is najis.

I later on and went and wiped the sniffed part of my clothing with dirt, but it’s modern day dirt which means it’s full of wooden chips, etc. and it wasn’t mixed with water. I took dirt and dry rubbed my clothes (maybe the dirt was damp), not sure if I covered all areas the dog sniffed. I then wiped it down/wet my clothes 7 or 8 times.

I then did wudu later on in the day (in the hospital), and honestly if I didn’t purify myself earlier properly - then that means I had spread najis throughout my body.

The issue is later on at home - I washed myself with dirt 1 time and water 7 times. However, I didn’t do it to my hair - and I feel like my hair was najis from doing wudu earlier in the day. This means I’ve spread it to my bed, car headrest, etc. since I went to bed with a wet hair and body that night.

Also I have a shirt that was clean that had dirt on it. The shirt was on the floor, and some of the dirt I was bringing inside to clean myself fell over onto that shirt. Does that mean anything the shirt touched spread? The dirt was wet too.

What about my car keys? Could the wetness have transferred since my pocket was one of the areas sniffed? And if I didn’t purify earlier that wetness from my washing just transferred onto my keys.

I follow Hanafi madhab but I generally also look at the “majority” opinion (as in the opinion that is agreed on by the majority of schools of thoughts). So if Hanafi is the odd one out I’d follow other 3 consensus, unless it’s very close.

Did I do wrong? Got into my argument about the pleasures of this Dunya, and brought up that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had concubines.

We were arguing about something (she started), and she said do you think this world is to enjoy? I said “yes” and of course my mom, who thrives of being miserable and holier than thou, was giddy and brought me the Quran and showed the verse,

The verse you are likely thinking of is Surah Al-'Ankabut (The Spider), Verse 64, which states: "The life of this world is not more than amusement and play; but the home in the Hereafter, that is life indeed, if they but knew."

I responded to my mom, this doesn’t mean you have to accept being miserable, or making yourself PURPOSELY miserable, and I mentioned that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had concubines for sex.

She then got upset and think I was being insulting when in reality I wanted to show her that even the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not live a miserable life and seeker pleasures of this world.

So did I do anything wrong?

Seeing lots of high mileage B-series engine on social media, though most of them are in recent models which brings my assumption that they’re highway miles.

So I am curious how the B-series engines have fared for the older models. I think sufficient time has passed for these engines to be in that mileage range for which they are a good mix of city/highway.

Curious on what y’all’s experiences/thoughts have been.

I’m sure we all know about the coolant issues these cars have, but if you plan for it and include do an entire cooling system refresh it shouldn’t sting as much. Literally all I can think off, I don’t see much issue with these engines … however I think the Gen 3 B58s have cylinder deactivation which people definitely need to keep an eye on.

Also off topic do a couple of paragraphs here, the G-series models have evaporator issues which can easily be $5,000+ to replace. Again, hurts a lot, so much plan ahead - and eventually in the long term the $ will be spread out you won’t feel too bad about it.

Also my 530e needed a transmission replacement at 60k miles, absolutely unacceptable - warranty covered it (over $14,000+). Apparently it’s a flywheel issue and affects PHEV BMWs, the ZF8 reliability does NOT apply to PHEVs.
