Madera Canyon Birding
Visited Madera Canyon for the first time yesterday. While I didn't see a trogon (I'll have to hike in the higher parts of the canyon next time), I did catch some other good shots. Photos include acorn woodpecker, hepatic tanager, black-headed grosbeak, wild turkey, brown-crested flycatcher, white-breasted nuthatch, bridled titmouse, Mexican jay, hooded oriole, and Bell's vireo--plus an Arizona sister butterfly.
Photos taken a few days ago at a few of my favorite spots around the Tucson area (Sweetwater Wetlands, Danny Lopez Park, & El Rio Preserve). Photos include ladder-backed woodpeckers, ruddy duck, green heron, common gallinule, northern rough-winged swallow, Cooper's hawk, mallards, great blue herons, American coot, great-tailed grackles, yellow-rumped warbler, vermilion flycatchers, killdeer, Lucy's warbler, and Anna's hummingbirds.
IDs based on observation + iNaturalist, but let me know if you disagree with any!
Female or possibly juvenile male. Photos taken in Tucson, AZ.
Taken at Kaibab Lake in the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Sharing some more pictures of dragonflies from various spots around Arizona. I can provide likely IDs if anyone is interested :)
Seen in Gilbert, AZ at the Riparian Preserve. Tips or feedback welcomed!
Not night herons, but I thought these least bittern fledglings were deserving of a little appreciation. Seen at the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, AZ.
I stopped at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch on my way back to Tucson from the Grand Canyon a few days ago. It was my first time, and I hate that it took me so long to make a visit... I'll definitely be headed back up to Gilbert/PHX soon. Any other spots I could add to a day trip next time?
Stars of the show were the least bittern fledglings hopping around right by the viewing platform.
Came up from Tucson and visited Kachina Wetlands. It was a great birding spot, tons of fledglings right now. Also managed to spot a coyote right as a I walked onto the property.
Took a random shot of this while birding in Flagstaff, AZ. Got the plane ID by searching the registration number... so hopefully that's right.
