Brian Austin johnson standup set in Chicago was phenomenal

If you get the chance to catch his standup set you should go for it. Everyone on the bill was funny and Brian's impersonations were very good.

Melissa Villaseñor is gonna be at the same venue in September and we're looking forward to that as well.

Edit: yes it's James. Yes I'm an idiot.

Recommendations and discussion on codebase visualizer and dependence mapper.

I've been looking at a few options like gitkrakens codemap. But I just haven't made a decision yet.

The biggest problem right now with AI assist is that so much gets spun up and it takes quite a while to ground myself in what has been written and how it all connects. I thought a viz tool would help tighten what I need to learn.

How do you handle this? Do you use these tools for this purpose? What have you liked and disliked about the tool you used?

Visiting my parents in Chester, and the diner has the most unhinged flyer. Uncle Sam gets into a fight with antifa lead by AOC and Jimmy Kimmel

I know it's Chester, I'm not surprised at some conservatism. But this fanfic at a diner is wild. Of course nearly entirely staffed by Latinos.

Has anyone taken skates on a cruise and toured the port cities?

Title, basically.

I'm current on a cruise now and each port city in Europe I've been too has had such nice roads and I want to do some city skate across them.

Then I started thinking it would be kinda fun to do a group tour of cities like this as well. But that's a whole different and much bigger discussion.

But I'm a Cheerleader deserves much more attention than it has gotten

I know it's recognized as a cult classic movie, but it doesn't carry the attention that a film of this quality carries.

There is simply too much in this movie that hits above its weight class, the cast, set design, music, camp, layers of irony, and script all work together to deliver a film that speaks volumes without explaining everything to you.

I saw it in like 00, or 01 on TV, as a young kid I was drawn to it because it starts with closeups of cheerleaders lol. But it introduced me to gay as a concept, I was 11 or 12 and I couldn't have had a better more compassionate exploration of the difficulties young people experienced grappling with being gay with parents who don't understand.

I genuinely and sincerely believe this movie should be recognized as a cultural touchstone. Library of Congress worthy.

I simply want this movie to have a rediscovery.

Is there anything citizens can do?

It feels terrible to watch the events unfold and watch people in power not weigh the events by their merits but by who is on whatever side. I just want a sincere attempt to by police to handle this situation and not whatever the fuck is going on here.

Hector - Commissioned by me, art by /u/paxexo - a protag for an urban sci-fantasy story I am writing

Just sharing from my phone. A brief intro though - set in the early 2000s a group of people came into contact with the remnants of a living energy that gave birth to reality. The energy is creative and constructive by nature, these people obtain a power to change the physical world around them. Varying from the area immediately around their body to a sphere of a influence a few feet in diameter.

Hector, a first generation American to Brazilian immigrant parents. Hector draws on sports, television, and video games for inspiration on how he can use his powers, primarily by augmenting his body so that he can copy what he has seen. Like the bicycle kick from Captain Tsubasa or the shell bullet from S-CRY-ed.

The gauntlets and leg braces protect lung-like organs that store air to use as a piston - accelerating movement by expelling air through exhausts at the elbow and ankles, for stronger punches and agile movement.

How are we feeling about side quests today? Which RPGs have done them best recently?

Playing through FF16 now and man, I am just not digging it. There is a war going on and I am finding lost mail?

I don't know when side quests became this, but it just doesn't jive with the larger narrative for me. Especially in a narrative JRPG, feels like it's lost direction.

I guess I was expecting side quests being tied directly to the playable characters and their story arcs. Some of the side quests don't even feel like they should have been side quests. They should have been narrative beats to lay down the personal stakes for the people in the world. I can't help but feel this was just a poor decision.

Gameplay for runtime padding doesn't feel great to me, feels like my time isn't being respected.

I miss changing discs

/end

Seriously though, I miss those moments, there was this natural moment of reflection. Where you sit with the events of the previous act as you go to the next stage of the game.

It was like a physical embodiment of time passing. After losing to Edea in FF8 and then waking up in prison or defeating Dolan in Legend of Dragoon and *still* having to lick your wounds after losing to Floyd.

You'd get the disc 2 title card and load up the next chapter.

It's an artifact of gaming that I am deeply nostalgic for. I would love to see one of the retro titles being released today find a way to put this moment into the game.

Nonsense fan theory: the avatar universe is semi-sentient or at least aware of itself as a collection of entities that has a natural balance

We don't know the mechanism by which the harmonic convergence gave many people air bending powers, we can assume it was like the lion turtles, but we don't know how it picked people, if it gave powers to people or if it turned on latent air bending spiritual connection.

But we do have an understanding for why - it was returning balance to the world.

So then that leads us to make an assumption, the avatar universe is aware of itself. If "it" recognizes when it is out of balance and makes a targeted adjustment to reality within itself to return balance then "it" has some awareness of its own state.

This also means that it might have a preferred state.

An competing theory is that none of this is true, harmonic convergence is a natural phenomena and what occurred is simply life having evolved around it and reacting to events in the world.

Did anyone else get whiplash seeing PsyOps: The Mindgate Conspiracy getting added to PS classics?

I really loved that ps2 game as a kid, lots of fun, full of jank. Really gave you the tools to break the game in half.

Giant cliffhanger unfortunately. Obviously had plans for a second and it never materialized. I just read that midway sold it to Warner so they've got the rights currently. They even sold movie rights for the game.

So I gotta ask - why? Why is Sony adding this poor selling game to their classics lineup and gave it space on their presentation. Why choose it at all?

I know why *I* want them to have added it, they know that there is a remake or sequel in the works and want the game there to pickup some extra sales when it's announced.

But to be honest with myself, that feels even less likely than us getting new titles for Megaman legends, breath of fire, and legend of Dragoon. So I ask again, why Psy Ops?

Just finished watching Vienna Vienna and Daisy Grenade in Chicago - They were both outstanding

I'll preface this with I was already a big Daisy Grenade fan already. So I was pretty much already going to like the show.

But Vienna Vienna put on such an outstanding performance that I was made an instant fan. They've got this one song, God Save the Queens, and it truly blew me away. Here's the video.

The song clearly draws heavy some brit rock especially how the audio is so purposefully crunchy, really dense sound really nostalgic almost. Really give them a listen.

Okay, but Daisy Grenade really come on swinging here, the show was sold out, the audience knew all the words to songs that came out a week ago. These two clearly draw on a performance background because the show was performative - big theater kid energy in a very good way. They weren't just up there singing songs, they were really entertaining the crowd. Give you a real reason to get out there and see live music.

Also, it was so refreshing to see that the overwhelming majority of the time people were enjoying the performance. Some phones were up to take clips but it wasn't the whole set. Thats just something I noticed this time around, I know people complain about this and well, I guess thats just some anecdotal evidence I guess.

Dan campbell is a listed contributor on the newest songs from Daisy Grenade, of particular note is Rent to Own.

IMO; this duo has been putting out banger after banger song since they hit the scene. And the newest collection of songs continues the streak of high energy power pop and pop punk without forgetting to include their makes you wanna cry song, borderline, so happy, and now rent to own.

https://youtu.be/EZH0wbWw7CQ?si=TJPSbypgeTPN0DjE

While their work stands on its own there was a quality to rent to own that felt markedly different that had me check the credits. There are a lot of names there, i hope we get to hear about the making of this song from them sooner rather than later.

What would the plotlines look like for a The Rookie: North, really far north?

I saw the rookie has crazy episodes, terrorists, bombs, several serial killers all in LA. But it's is getting a spin-off series called North and I thought what crazy plot lines could be in the show set in Edmonton.

Polar vortex? Missing dog?

Responding to a hockey riot when the oilers win the cup is a perfect fantasy story.
