How do you guys find trending sounds, edits and content ideas?

Hey guys, just curious how you all keep up with trends on TikTok and Instagram?

I'm talking trending sounds, cool transitions, editing styles, viral formats, UGC ideas etc.

Do you use any specific websites, tools or accounts to find this stuff? Or is it literally just scrolling through TikTok and Reels until you find something?

Trying to find a better way to spot trends early rather than when everyone's already doing them lol.

ive been video editing for a while now mainly on davinci resolve and also do videography. got my own fx30 setup and decent audio/lenses etc

most of my work so far has been podcasts long form youtube stuff short form/socials and ive also done a couple music videos and events

ive got like 2-3 clients that come back to me here and there but im really trying to push it further now and get into bigger paying jobs especially corporate events conferences exhibitions etc or even more clients on a monthly retainer.

\- where do you find these sort of jobs?

\- is linkedin/cold emailing actually worth doing?

\- where do you guys keep your portfolio? website? instagram? vimeo?

just trying to figure out how to go from smaller jobs here and there to bigger more consistent work

My colour grading feels mediocre or something is missing... need some advice!

i have been using resolve for a few years, watched countless youtube videos, davinci training.. till this day i still do not understand how to make a good stylised look.

i have a fx30.

heres an example of some work i have done to get an understanding of my colour knowledge

\- [Reel: slog3 -> referrant LUT by cullen kelly](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZffIQmoSUg/?igsh=MTNnOXc2enJrdHJkcA==)

heres another one i did a while back but not in LOG format, this was normal

\- [rec709 footage rec709 built in camera colours + basic corrections](https://youtube.com/shorts/Z8pX\_zN07kE?is=i83POhsy1Pih5HH3)

most recent using s.cinetone (which i dont think looks too bad but the first guy looks way too yellow to me now looking back)

\- [s.cinetone with bloom & basic corrections](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbbLTaZs14u/?igsh=MXNybzZ2bGlwNmczeQ==)

i also dont know what creative LUTS i can get to work with my footage, everytime i apply them it makes it look horrible even when i reduce intensity.

what im trying to acheive is looks like these

[look 1](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbBWuTezvW5/?igsh=MWd6OXc5eHc2YmhiNQ==)

[look 2](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYSqqA9qGB4/?igsh=MXVucTVrN253MjlwYQ==)

i would honestly appreciate any guidance feels like im missing a secret sauce step or something

First business asked me for a media kit and I'm completely overthinking it — what should actually be in it?

Hey everyone,

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and could use some advice.

I run my own videography and editing business and recently reached out to a sushi restaurant about potentially creating content for them. They got back to me and asked if I have a media kit.

The problem is... I've never actually had to make one before.

I understand it's supposed to showcase my portfolio, services, experience, and what I can offer, but I'm struggling with how to position it and what a business is actually looking for when they ask for a media kit.

For example:

  • What pages should it include?
  • How much information is too much?
  • What services should I highlight?
  • Should I focus on deliverables (reels, photography, editing, social content) or the outcomes I help create?
  • How do you avoid repeating the same thing across multiple pages?
  • If you're not specifically a "food creator" but you're capable of producing content for restaurants, how would you position yourself?

I'm probably overthinking it, but because this is the first time a business has asked me for one, I want to make sure it's relevant and professional without turning it into a 20-page portfolio nobody will read.

Would love to hear how you structure your media kits and what clients actually care about seeing.

Thanks!

Looking for some upgrade advice for my podcast setup.

Right now I'm running a Focusrite Vocaster Two with 2x Shure MV7s, but I'm starting to record more group podcasts and need at least 4 mic inputs (possibly 6 in the future).

My main requirements are:

- 4 XLR inputs minimum

- Potentially expandable to 6 mics later

- Good quality preamps

- Easy workflow for podcasting

- Ideally USB for recording into a PC

- Budget is flexible if it's worth the investment

I've been looking at things like the Rodecaster Pro II, Rodecaster Duo + expansion, Zoom PodTrak P8, Focusrite Scarlett 18i8/18i20, etc., but I'm not sure what's the best step up from the Vocaster.

For those running 4+ Shure MV7s, what would you recommend and why?

Would love to hear what you're using and whether you'd buy it again. Thanks!

Trying to build yourself while feeling completely stuck

I genuinely don’t understand modern life anymore sometimes.

People say:

“Work on yourself.”

“Build your career.”

“Get hobbies.”

“Focus on becoming the best version of yourself and the right person will come.”

But what happens when you ARE trying?

I’m trying hard to get my career sorted after being made redundant, applying for jobs, building skills, doing creative work, trying to improve myself, staying productive, figuring life out. But it’s exhausting when nothing seems to click at the speed you hoped it would.

And after a while it starts affecting everything else too.

You stop wanting to date because you don’t feel “ready.”

You feel guilty relaxing because you think you should be grinding.

You compare yourself to people who seem ahead in life.

And eventually it just becomes this loop of trying to build yourself while quietly feeling stuck. I feel like punching a wall.

I’ve got hobbies, interests, passions, creative goals — videography, editing, music, cooking etc. But sometimes even with all that, life still feels weirdly empty and disconnected.

And I know people will say “keep going” or “trust the process,” but honestly some days it just feels shit.

Like you’re trying your best to become someone worth loving, while simultaneously feeling like you’re falling behind in every area of life.

Does anyone else feel like this right now?

Hey guys i'm looking for a second camera that leans more into photography/stills work while still being solid for hybrid use. I already use an FX30 as my main professional video camera, but I’m getting offered more photography work lately and want something stronger for stills than my ZV-E10.

  • Budget: Around £1,000 ideally, but flexible if I sell my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo and Sony ZV-E10. Already own Sony E-mount lenses/accessories.
  • Country: UK
  • Condition: Happy with used/refurbished or new.
  • Type of Camera: Mirrorless
  • Intended use: Mainly photography now, but still hybrid shooting overall.
  • If photography; what style: Portraits, events, fashion, lifestyle, commercial/social media photography, low light event work.
  • If video what style: Podcasts, BTS content, reels, events, occasional commercial work.
  • What features do you absolutely need: Strong autofocus, better stills performance than my ZV-E10, good low light performance, EVF/viewfinder, good ergonomics for photography, reliable for paid client work, decent battery life.
  • Portability: Shoulder strap/small bag portable. Needs to work for events and travel but doesn’t need to be ultra compact.
  • Cameras you're considering:
    • Sony A7 III — best value full frame option and works with my Sony ecosystem.
    • Fujifilm X-T4 — interested in Fuji colours and photography experience.
    • Canon EOS R8 — heard great things about autofocus and image quality.
    • Open to other suggestions around this price range.
  • Cameras you already have:
    • Sony FX30 — my main professional video camera. Love the video workflow, codecs, and reliability.
    • Sony ZV-E10 — decent lightweight camera but feels limiting for photography/professional stills work now.
    • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo — great for casual/BTS content but considering selling it.
  • Notes: Mainly work professionally in video/content creation already (events, fashion, podcasts, promos, social media reels etc.) and use the FX30 as my main camera. I’m now getting offered more stills photography work and want something that improves my photography while also being a strong secondary hybrid/podcast/event body. Unsure whether staying in Sony makes the most sense for lens compatibility/workflow, or whether something like Fuji would be more enjoyable specifically for photography.

I've used frame.io, davinci presentations in the past and i think frame is the most polished tool but lacks the integration of seeing markers in the timeline. Presentations is good because i can see markers from clients & being able to talk to the client in the dashboard is great but i think its missing some core functionality like drawing, annotation & timestamp ranges..

I usually drop my finalized videos into google drive for clients to download.

Im just really missing that efficiency of seeing markers on my timeline to make quick edits, what do you guys use ?
