Advice needed!

So I (25) have been an out of work journalist (freelancing here and there) for about two years. I got this offer that I think I’m going to accept for a newspaper covering politics in a state I’m not thrilled about moving to. My end goal is to live in Chicago or some type of major metro city (preferably Midwest bc that’s where I’m from) covering government or education. Recently got through two rounds of interviews for a suburban paper for the tribune but didn’t end up getting the job. :(

If/when I accept this offer, how hard would it be to transition to/get a job later down the line in a major city/market? This job is great for the type of journalism I want to get into but I don’t want the location to hold me back from breaking into a bigger city. I also just do not see myself living in this location long term.

All that to say, I will probably accept this job offer because it’s best for my career, I’m just worried that it will derail my plans to move to a bigger city in the future.

Should I be worried??

Recruiter sent this on Wednesday, it’s Saturday. Have not heard anything from them. I am worried and sad I didn’t get the job. What are the chances they chose someone else? I had accepted a job a while back and they ended up rescinding the offer bc they found someone else with more experience so I think I’m just nervous….the waiting is hard

Feeling like Carrie when she found out Big married Natasha

Just went through a similar event. The man I was seeing dumped me for someone else and is now in a happy 5 month long relationship (officially, they have been together since like October). He chose her over me. I went a little Carrie crazy, made a fake insta and followed this new girl and saw allllll her posts with him. When I saw that I thought this is how Carrie felt when she saw Big and Natasha in the paper (lol but I’m still heartbroken). Like damn. He can change for her and not me. Like I literally can now say I know exactly how Carrie felt. Obv not a marriage but similar situations. Time for a rewatch.

Edit: thank you for the support 🩷 and I HAVE deleted the instagram app off my phone for the time being. Carrie could never.

Edit #2: I’ve also done some reflecting. While it hurt a lot finding this out I realized they are in a long distance relationship. And the way he acted with me (breaking up over text, unable to look me in the eye, etc) like it makes sense he’d want a long distance relationship. Obv I don’t know their relationship..maybe he changed within a month idk… but the first month of their relationship and since then has been long distance. I just think it makes sense with what I know about him. He doesn’t have to deal with the real issues in the relationship and time moves faster bc they’re not physically together all the time all while probably not dealing with the issues he has/showed me. I think he wanted a long distance low commitment girlfriend and that’s what he got. He gets the benefits of being in a relationship without having to physically show up.
Maybe they’re hopelessly in love…but like I said with what I know about him, he could easily be seeing other people without her even knowing. He did that with me! But also what do I know? Maybe they’re perfect together and thrive in a long distance relationship. I just don’t see a relationship starting out to be sustainable if it’s long distance bc of so many reasons that i def think are appealing to him. And for me that’s the mindset I’m having sorry!!!
Overall I’ve just come to the conclusion that I would not be okay with a long distance relationship to kick off a serious relationship and I know people don’t usually change their conflict resolution and attachment style within a few months.

25F, cant stop thinking of him, 27M, a year later

I’m still thinking of the man who took my virginity. He moved away, back home, has a job there but I did some internet stalking and found out he’s been in my hometown within the past few months. The internet stalking needs to stop but finding out he’d been in my city last month made me spiral. He didn’t reach out. Was he visiting another girl? Does he not care about me? Did he ever care about me?

And tbh, I haven’t thought of him this much since last October, when he ended things. These are all very recent thoughts I can’t seem to get out of my mind. I’ve thought about texting him and laying it all out there but have kept myself from doing that.

We had sex twice. We were seeing each other for about three months. And I would say we were dating, we went out most of the time it was never like a booty call situation. I slept with him like two months into the relationship. I was a virgin and wanted to get it over with.

But…after the second time we had sex, I was excited to see him again and continue our relationship/dating and he told me he wanted to too. However, a week or so after, and after me texting him about when he could meet up again, he told me he met someone else and got closer to them “over the past couple weeks.” It broke my heart. For one, he texted me. He also had been seeing someone else while I was seeing him. And before he sent that text, he’d said over and over again that he wants to keep seeing me and wants to see me soon. It was a casual relationship, I wasn’t looking for anything permanent because he was only in my city for a short period, but I wish he’d been honest. Honest that he was seeing someone else mostly. I wish he’d told me to my face.

After the text I asked to meet him in person because he’d borrowed a book of mine and I needed it back. I got the chance to ask him some questions. He’d started seeing this person when I had gone out of town. In the text, he said he really liked me but “needs to spend his remaining time here correctly.” When I saw him in person I told him he really hurt me and he seemed remorseful and was like “that was never my intention.” He said “you deserve better” and the reason why he wasn’t honest with me was bc he was “nervous.”

And about a year after our first date, our first kiss, I’m STILL thinking about him. I wonder if he thinks of me. I wonder if he’s still with that person he left me for. I’m just so fucked up about this whole situation. I don’t know how I’ll feel secure enough to have sex with someone again. Writing this post makes me want to cry. I wish I could forget him but that feels fucking impossible. And I just can’t understand WHY I’ve suddenly started thinking of him again after this long. I am torturing myself. How can I stop these ruminating thoughts?! I’m literally feeling sick.

Feeling sad ready to give up on this new job

I started this new bakery job (no prev experience) three weeks ago and I got feedback from management today. The meeting lasted like 20+ minutes.

Basically at this bakery they have pretty specific ways to add in ingredients when making the muffin mix and I’ve added them in incorrectly twice, as far as I can remember. We have to add the oil into the eggs after the other wet ingredients are added bc we have to heat up the oil. It’s coconut oil and we have to melt it + wait for the eggs to cool down to room temp so hot/cold ingredients don’t mix immediately. But my manager said it was a “recurring mistake.” It’s not!! The first mistake was literally the first time making it and the second was the second time (first time making it with no help). Both times I think (trying to remember) I added the eggs into the sugars and then immediately added the oil. Need to triple check with the manager but I believe I’m supposed to add the eggs, mix them into the sugars and then add the oil?? It’s just so hard to remember the process ugh!

Another thing they brought up was the first time I’ve made the mistake and it was literally today. I put in cookies on a high fan in the oven and was supposed to put them in on low + took muffins out a little too early and then fucked up the entire morning. Had to put the muffins in a different oven I feel like I fucked up the entire morning with this mistake.

All this to say, I had the meeting after my shift and they were supportive and told me to not be afraid to speak up, ask questions, etc. I got fired from my last job and I’m just worried I’ll get fired again. They will have another meeting with me in three weeks. I’m going to work on my issues in the next few weeks but I’m worriedddd.

Would love some advice, tips on how I can stop making the same mistakes. Now I feel a little less confident going into my next shift. I’m so nervous.

Shopping with my mom

Went shopping with my mom for my bday today and honestly it was rough !

Any kind of top that made the girls look good (v-neck vibe or something like a bustier cut not overly revealing imo) my mom was like that’s too revealing. Then anything that covered my chest made me look way bigger than I am because of how the fabric hung off my chest and then anything else that was form fitting and not low cut she was like that’s really tight like OMG it’s hard out here for short girls with big chests and smaller frames!!!

Ugh had to rant. Literally it seemed like nothing was “appropriate” in her eyes, and if it was, it didn’t make ME feel/look good! Also all the tops that felt supportive enough made my boobs look too “revealing”. It’s just so hard to find stuff that’s “appropriate” when you have a bigger chest like if I had tried on any of the tops that I tried on and had a smaller chest she would not have said anything.

Potential job offer, not sure how I feel about it. Am stressing.

I work in journalism. 24F

I started a job post grad that I did not love and didn’t do much for my career so I ended up leaving a year later. Since then I’ve worked an hourly job to make ends meet but I need to get another job in my career. It’s been about a year and a half since that post grad job. I’ve been freelancing and keeping up my journalism work in the meantime.

I got a job offer a month ago but they rescinded the offer because they found someone else. It sucked, it was a great job too.

I had an interview with another job last week. It’s basically a general assignment reporter (which I don’t want to do) with some education reporting (closer to what i want to do). I want to get into government reporting. It’s also in Idaho, 24 hours away from me. I have not received an official offer yet but I think I will early next week.

I am worried if I take this job I will not be happy, but I’m also worried if I decline, I won’t get any other offers and it’ll be coming up two years since my last full time job in the industry. The pay is okay, but not a ton for the cost of living examples I’ve looked up. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to be unhappy but I need a job. I am also worried if I decline this job, my parents (who I am living with right now) will be disappointed in me. Another thing about the place - I’ve read it has a lot of neo nazi rallies. Not sure I’m comfortable with that.

Book vs Show - why make so many changes?

Basically the title. Unpopular opinion from r/thetestaments (shocking to me tbh) but I LOVED the book. It was so exciting and contextualized a lot of the handmaids tale book. They changed so much on the show. I still thoroughly enjoyed the show but a lot of big plot defining scenes were changed in the show (like when Becka kills her father?? + just generally Garth's character).

I just wanted some other opinions as to why they made so many changes? I understand they needed stuff to build on for the series like making some characters more relevant than they were in the book and I kind of understand why they included Daisy in the school rather than at Audra Hall to speed up the story (still disappointed ab that tho) but overall there were a lot of choices that made the show vs book almost completely different stories.

Last month I got fired from a part time job at a coffee shop I’d been at for over a year. It sucked but I wasn’t passionate about it and I wasn’t using my degree. After that, I went through this whole process for a job out of state.

During the initial interview the editor (it was for a newspaper) even invited me to join in on a staff meeting, the interview went really well and I felt really confident, I did a writing test which I received great feedback on and promptly fixed the edits. They even posted the story (I got paid for it) and I thought everything was going great.

I met with the editor over zoom and he offered me the job. Nothing in writing so I wasn’t putting all my eggs in one basket, but I was feeling really good and confident. He told me he thought I was a great fit for the job and said he thought I’d succeed in it. I was so happy to finally get a job in my field after a year and a half of working in the service industry.

Then, it took weeks to get back in touch with the editor. He said he needed to talk to his publisher about it, the publisher was out of town one week and sick the next week. Last week I emailed him a couple of times asking for an update and didn’t hear any response. It was like they ghosted me. He told me to call him today, so I did. Initially, no answer, but he called back a few minutes later.

He told me they ended up offering the job to someone else. The person they offered it to had more experience in the state’s political realm (the job was in political journalism). I feel so defeated. I emailed him later that day and asked him if there was anything that caused them to choose him over me besides the experience.

In the interview he told me he and the staff would help me get my bearings and point me in the right direction for contacts, etc. I’d even asked him if my inexperience in the state was a problem and he said it wasn’t. I told him i was nervous about all that and he assured me I’d be okay.

I just wish they’d been more up front with me. I guess I’m glad it wasn’t just an email, but I’m just so sad. I’ll never know what or why they chose someone else even after they gave me an offer, my dad thinks someone might have known the publisher and asked them to do them a favor for their kid but I don’t want to believe that. That hurts more than just being “inexperienced.”

After the initial rejection he told me someone on staff was moving and that I’d be his first pick (once they move) to fill their position. It’s a local government reporter. Made me feel a little better.

Advice or words of encouragement are appreciated.
