West to East: Europe Redesigned - Regno di Spagna (1/2)
West to East: Europe Redesigned - Repubblica Portoghese (2/2)
West to East: Europe Redesigned - Repubblica Portoghese (1/2)

My first MacBook — what should I do first?
Hey everyone!
Tomorrow I’m finally getting my first MacBook! 🎉
I’m switching from Windows to macOS, so while I’ve used Windows PCs for years, I’ve never actually owned a Mac before.
I do already have an iPhone and an iPad, so I’m very familiar with the Apple ecosystem in general (iCloud, AirDrop, Apple apps, etc.), but I have basically zero experience with macOS itself.
So I’d love to hear your advice:
- What are the first things I should do after setting up my Mac?
- Are there any settings you recommend changing immediately?
- What apps are absolute must-haves?
Are there any useful apps/utilities that aren’t well-known but you can’t live without?
- What macOS features or shortcuts should I learn coming from Windows?
- Any tips for making the most out of having a Mac + iPhone + iPad together?
- Are there any common mistakes new Mac users should avoid?
- And generally, what do you wish someone had told you when you got your first Mac?
I’m really excited to finally make the switch, so I’d appreciate any tips, recommendations, or even little quality-of-life tricks you’ve picked up over the years!
Thanks! 💙
Ciao a tutti,
Vorrei chiedere a chi c'è passato o conosce l'ambiente:
My great-grandfather served in the Italian Navy (Marina Militare). Dreaming of following in his footsteps as a Helmsman ⚓
Hi everyone,
My great-grandfather was a sailor in the Italian Navy (Marina Militare), and recently I’ve developed a huge passion for this world.
My dream would be to one day become a Helmsman (Timoniere) and stand on the bridge steering the ship.
Knowing how challenging military
entry exams and selection processes are, I want to start preparing early by studying basic seamanship, naval history, and STEM subjects.
I wanted to ask the community:
- Are there any active/former sailors or helmsmen here who can share what life on the bridge is like?
- Do you have any recommendations on essential naval history books, seamanship guides, or resources to study?
Fair winds and following seas to all! 🫡
Is this a bug?
I was doing the test to pass to unit 3 of French course, and I accidentaly forgot "Lisa" but the answer was still correct.
Is it just a bug or FINALLY Duolingo understood that not every single name is necessary for our learning?
Let‘s collaborate together for our Nation. Join the Floptropican Linguistic Council & Help Build Our Official Conlang! 💅✨
To all citizens of the Queendom of Floptropica,
As our nation continues to grow, we are facing a major national challenge: our official communications lack a unified language system.
From fake interpreters on television broadcasts to disconnected regional dialects across Jiafeia, CupcakKia, and Potaxiene, it’s time to modernize our infrastructure!
I have officially decided to found the Floptropican Linguistic Council.
Our goal is to build two major national projects from scratch:
- Floptropican Sign Language (FSL): Creating a real, standardized sign language system for complete national accessibility.
- The Official Spoken Conlang: Designing a unified national language for all regions of the Queendom!
We need linguists, lore creators, translators, and passionate citizens to join us and help draft the official dictionary, rules, and vocabulary.
How you can contribute:
- Brainstorming official terminology and signs.
- Categorizing words for different regions and government branches.
- Helping test and teach the language to other citizens.
Join the official Discord server now and claim your citizen role:
Let's make history together, babe. Long live Floptropica! 💅✨🌴
PS: We will obviously just chat together and fight DaBoyz 🩷💙💛🌴💅
Floptropican Sign Language (FSL)
To the citizens and government of Floptropica,
As our nation continues to expand its infrastructure, legal framework, and regional governance, there is an important national matter we need to address.
In many official state broadcasts, clips of Derlyn Roberts are used to represent our sign language interpreters. While these broadcasts are well-known across the country, the reality is that the signs being used are completely random and carry no real meaning, how announced from President Deborah Ali-Williams.
As a sovereign and organized nation, Floptropica should have an officially recognized and structured Floptropican Sign Language (FSL).
Establishing an official sign language would benefit our nation in several ways:
National Accessibility: It ensures that deaf and hard-of-hearing citizens have full access to all official government communications, news broadcasts, and public announcements.
Institutional Standard: Having a real FSL system would raise the standard of our national media, allowing official weather reporters, news anchors, and state representatives to include certified interpreters in their broadcasts.
Cultural Identity: A standardized signing system for national terminology, key figures, and state concepts would further strengthen our national unity across all regions.
We could begin by drafting a foundational dictionary for FSL, establishing standard signs for key national terms, and publishing official educational materials for the public.
What are your thoughts on bringing this proposal to the national assembly?
Feeling stuck at A1/A2 German – How do I push past this plateau?
Hi everyone!
I've been learning German for a while now and I’d say I’m around the A1+ level. Recently, I started chatting with a German pen pal (which is awesome!), but I feel super stuck. It feels like I'm not learning anything new anymore and I get nervous when I can't express my full thoughts.
For those who have been through this stage:
- How did you get past this stuck feeling?
- What are the best daily habits or tools to expand vocabulary without feeling overwhelmed?
- Any tips for building confidence when chatting with native speakers?
Any advice or encouragement would mean a lot! Thanks!
Path to becoming a Data Scientist / Quantitative Analyst for the European Parliament & EU Institutions?
Hi everyone,
I have a clear goal: I want to become a Data Scientist working specifically for European institutions, like the European Parliament (e.g., within research services like the EPRS or Joint Research Centre).
My aim is to use mathematical modeling, statistics, and data science to analyze broad policy data and support decision-making for EU legislation.
I want to build a rock-solid foundation early on. My questions for you:
What core mathematical skills or habits (e.g. statistics, probability, predictive modeling) are most crucial for a Data Scientist working in public policy and EU-level analysis?
Are there any great conceptual books, resources, or channels that explain data science applied to governance and policymaking?
For anyone working as a Quantitative Analyst or Data Specialist in European or international public institutions, what do you wish you had focused on earlier?
Thanks for any advice!

LIBERI QVIA EVROPÆI
Hello to everyone,
I would like to share with you my blog, LIBERI QVIA EVROPÆI.
It talks about Federal Europe. I will share with you everything about the content: News, Questions etc…
It’s a multilingual blog, you will find the posts in English, Italian, Spanish, German and French.
I hope you will like it!!!🇪🇺
A voluntary "core" federation: an alternative path to the Federal Europe?
Hello everyone! I’m new to this subreddit and really excited to be here. I don’t know if this question gets asked a lot, so I hope I won't annoy anyone if this is just the same old topic. If so, I apologize in advance!
Excuse me if this is a beginner's question, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this! 😭
We often talk about a Federal Europe, but achieving it under the current EU system would require the unanimous agreement of all 27 member states, which seems almost impossible.
Wouldn’t it be more realistic to start with a voluntary union?
What if a smaller "core" group of countries founded a new, separate federation (let’s call it the United Federal States of Europe) that other nations could join later, but only if they want to and if they meet strict criteria (like economic stability and a strong defense contribution)?
I feel like this could be much more realistic and easier to achieve than waiting for all 27 countries to agree at the same time. What do you think?
To be clear, my personal dream—which I know is shared by many of you here—is a single, fully united Federal Europe without any divisions. Ideally, we should all move forward together as one. However, given the political reality, I wonder if this "multi-speed" approach might be the only practical way to actually start building it.
Nick and Charlie in my chinese lesson!?🤣
I was taking a Chinese lesson in HelloChinese and this appeared under the translation of "friend"
Tonight: A mass prayer for World Peace and the Care of Creation
Hello everyone,
As a young Catholic, I am deeply concerned about what is happening to our world. War is tearing families apart and devastating the Earth, which is God's beautiful creation.
Tonight, I would like to invite this wonderful community to join in a mass prayer. Let us unite our hearts, wherever we are in the world, to ask God for:
1. World Peace 🕊️: For an end to all conflicts, violence, and the suffering of innocent people.
2. The Care of Creation 🌱: For the protection of nature, our oceans, and our climate, which are suffering so much from pollution and human neglect.
No matter your time zone, please take a few moments tonight to dedicate a prayer to these intentions. Our faith and our prayers are powerful weapons for peace and love.
"The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth." (Psalm 145:18)
Thank you to anyone who will join. Let's make a difference together through faith! 🙏✨
Learning Greek
Good morning everyone!!
I'm new to this subreddit and I'd like to really start learning Greek.
I started with Duolingo but it's not the most useful thing in the world, so I feel a bit stuck in a bubble where everything I learn is Δαβιδ, το νερό είναι ροζ (you can see how that's not exactly an everyday conversation phrase hahahah).
Do you have any methods to recommend? The only thing is that I can't spend any money...
Thanks everyone!!
PS: I wouldn't recommend David drink that water🤣
