Heaven is not a promise.

Many people that expect to go to heaven won't end up in there. Jesus explicitly told us that. and religion teaches us that every day. Take, for example, the SDA church and the Catholic Church. The SDA church teaches that they have the truth, and whoever learns this truth and ultimately rejects it (even in good conscience) won't make it into heaven. The same thing applies to the Catholic Church. So who is right? Even if you study hard and make a decision in good conscience, that won't change your fate (because you could be wrong). Heaven is not a promise. Hell is.

problem of evil in luciferianism/theistic satanism

why did lucifer tempt eve and adam to eat from the tree of knowledge, knowing that (even with the benefits of knowledge and the possibility of self-deification) this could lead to evil, disaster, and death? Well, I inverted the typical christian response to this: God made humans with free will, knowing that they would sin and bring suffering and misery because he wanted real human beings not machines to love him and give him adoration. lucifer brought "evil" to this world for a parallel reason: he wanted beings that were capable of loving themselves.

my life history till now

i was struggling so much with what God wanted or didn't want. whether he existed or not. it set the biggest depression I had. it all started when i actually read the books of the prophet of my denomination (Seventh-day Adventism). and realizing that she set a standard that my family and I were not following. that triggered the biggest depression ever. i had to give up everything that i most liked (sports, video games, fiction). For what, so i get to heaven? where possibly my family was not in it? but then came the guilt trip. parts of my mind were telling me, "You have to set an example so you and your family can get to heaven." and not be consumed by hellfire. that thought made me suicidal. because i knew i would never be enough. and i simply didn't want that burden on my shoulders. i tried every avenue out of this conundrum. I tried looking up Christian critics of my denomination, but the criticism they gave was shallow and easily rebuked by those sons of bitches' apologetics from my denomination (Francis d. nichols, kevin L. Morgan). i tried a way out by atheism, asking about the (supposedly) paranormal phenomena associated with the prophet visions. i am still trying to figure that out. (The answers I received for now are not satisfying to me.) I had the worst moment of my life. things got so bad the government needed to step in, and i was taken from psychiatrist to psychiatrist. they gave me meds and asked if I was hearing voices. i told them i was hearing the voices of my own conscience telling me how guilty i am for not enduring this trial when (supposedly) Job and Jesus have gone to so much worse to sacrifice themselves for us. I couldn't enjoy anything anymore. i was self-harming out of guilt. for not sacrificing myself like Jesus did. But again, I did not want this burden on me. i felt like there was no way out for me but to end it all. they sent me to a mental hospital. but things did not improve. once i was out. i decided that was it for me. the only way to escape this guilt is by killing myself and escaping the responsibilities, paying back Jesus for the life he gave for me. I intentionally overdosed on my meds (Lorazepam). Don't remember much of what happened later, just that i was taken again to the mental hospital. I continuously struggled with those guilty thoughts. and after they maxed out my meds, I was apparently improving. (but only because i was planning my next suicide attempt). After I got out, I enjoyed time with my nonbeliever sister and her boyfriend; one day we watched Zootopia 2. And it was a turning point in my life. i liked the movie so much. i wanted to stay alive to enjoy things like this. that was the beginning of my mind shift. it started slowly at first; I tried to "bargain" with God. "Ok, Lord, I will do my best to remain an example to my family; just give one week to enjoy the things in life ( i was also trying to study to build a time machine to see if Jesus really resurrected; it may be funny now but sometimes that's what keep me going.) I tried for one day to be an 'example' to my family and failed. after that it was a complex, interconnected chain of thoughts that kept me up while i was slowly recuperating. i will not submit to God because of "X." I love my family more than God (in the meantime, I began watching a netflix series called Manifest; it helped with my recuperation while I began once more enjoying things), but it was still a house of cards. The "holy spirit" was still trying to get me back to God. But do you know how i recuperated? by saying "fuck" to it all. my sins hurt Jesus? let me sin more so he hurts more. my bad example leads people astray to the path of destruction. Well, the bigger the number of people i separate from Jesus and his "love," the better. the prophet lived an exceptional life and had visions from God. Well, fuck her and her God. I stopped asking if God exists and began asking why he got the right to exist in the first place. That's how i recuperated from my depression. I don't have to submit to God. and it doesn't matter if in that course I have to completely transform myself or "follow" the way of Satan. It doesn't matter. All that matters is me and my well-being. i made a deal with myself that even if the prophet and her theology got proven wrong, I would not go back to God and that did wonders for my mental health. I don't fear hell anymore. Heaven, where you are forced to stay always happy worshiping Christ, is the real hell. i hate perfect beings, and Jesus is no exception. I don't care if this makes me evil. That's the way it is. sorry for the long history; I just want to share my history with you guys. i am doing way better now than the last time i visited this subreddit. i like to thank all you guys and the people in r/Misotheism and r/exAdventist as well as the people in r/DebateAnAtheist for putting up with my questions.

TLDR: got depression after realizing that possibly I and my family were going to hell. changed my mindset. now i don't care if God exists or not; I am not worshipping him. It cured my depression.

feeling much better after realizing I don't have to submit to God.

Supernatural Visions provide evidence for God?

hi again. It's been a while since I've been in this subreddit. i will present the same argument but this time with more evidence: are ellen white and her visions proof of the supernatural? i found an article that goes in-depth about the phenomena associated with white visions; they even managed to find the identities of the doctors that tested her as well as some biographical information. according to this historian the testimonies were made sometimes in these vicinities of these named doctors, so anyone who suspected fraud could simply talk to the doctors that analyzed her to check. has anyone got a natural explanation for this article and the testimonies contained? there are thirteen of these testimonies with the now-identified doctors (David H. Lord, Dr. Baldwin, etc.) (the author of the article even discusses some natural explanations (epilepsy, fraud) and dismisses them on the basis of what we know of the testimonies involved). i would appreciate it.

on a personal note, i am doing much better now than the last time i visited here. I realized that even if God exists, I would not obey or worship him. and that did wonders for my mental health. I guess i would call myself a misotheist. i would like to see explanations that could turn me into a full-fledged atheist.

Zootopia 2 helped me through my depression.

it was a really dark time for me. religious trauma and anxiety had overtaken me; I had just gotten out of the mental hospital and was planning my next attempt to kill myself. That's when I was at my sister's flat. We're looking for movies to watch. I just saw Zootopia 2 on the edge of the screen, and i gave the idea that we could watch that movie. the movie was so hopeful it reminded me of the times i was a happy child watching the first movie. the message of the movie and the music about a city where anyone can be anything resonated with me deeply. after that night i decided that i was going to live. no matter the cost, no matter who i was going to stand to—heck, maybe even stand up to God himself. i was going to live!

Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you guys. this move really helped me a lot. it was like a before and after situation.

honest question to the atheists/naturalists of this subreddit

first of all, I'd like to say that I'm a former adventist misotheist. I believe that God exists, but he (like billy butcher says) is a cunt. I've been so much happier after abandoning the burden of submitting to that asshole. now on to the question itself. What do you make of Ellen White's miracles, like her not breathing for two hours during visions she had all the while being tested by doctors. or the Salamanca experience of her predicting a meeting of the american sentinel magazine editors? what do you guys think that all was? fraud? catalepsy? Did someone pay the doctors off? i'm asking because these experiences convince me there is a God who is also a complete asshole, like Ellen White. as someone who came from this background of Adventism, I'd like to ask you guys for your opinion on these matters. Please, this is an honest question.

real question to those who view the herem command of 1 samuel 15:3 allegorically.

this is a real question to those who view 1 samuel 15:3 allegorically or embrace the view that it was an exaggeration. why then did God get angry at saul for not killing all the animals like he commanded it? honest question.

i think C.S. Lewis's self-chosen hell argument fails.

accepting something as a consequence and choosing something are two different things. even if someone accepts hell as a consequence, it is not the same as choosing it. one may say that this logic lets criminals off the hook and can have disastrous consequences if accepted. but everyone recognizes that the criminals don't simply walk themselves into jail. it was an imposition of the justice system. and we still hold the justice system to be reasonable with the punishment, not choosing to impose anything inhumane and unusual (like hell is). by choosing to accept C.S. Lewis's argument, we also justify any unusual and inhumane punishment in history. this is also biblically supported. Matthew 13:41-42: "thrown" into the lake of fire.

Christians believe Desmond Tutu is going to hell

I don't know if this subreddit has a rule against multiple postings. i hope not.

but this has been eating me for some time. Every serious non-universalist believes desmond tutu is going to hell. because he said:

" I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place. I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this. I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level."

that means he loves his fellow human being more than God. and that automatically means that he won't go to heaven even if somehow God doesn't condemn homosexuality. Now I must ask, what is the sin of this man? loving his fellow human being more than God? how is it that God just cannot withstand not being worshipped? That makes him a monster instead of a loving father. i dont see a way around this.

there is no way around it. joshua and God ordering the killing of children in the OT is immoral.

the killing of children in the OT is immoral. no matter what. i read many apologist defenses of it, and it simply doesn't work. i read BibleHub on the defense of the killing of all the population of the city of AI. And honestly, the best they could come up with was that God will resurrect them and bring them under his kingdom. But honestly, is that also not what the Canaanites who sacrificed their children also believed? They believed the sacrificed children became the gods' emissaries upon the earth, a highly honored position. in the end it all boils down to my god is real, yours is false. and not a moral argument. how can you know for sure your god is the real one? more than these guys who believed that their gods were the real ones. you can't even be sure that external reality is real! the killing of children is immoral, no matter what.

if hell is a possibility that God foresaw then it was immoral to create us in the first place

let me explain.

in all non-utilitarian ethical frameworks, creating the universe with the minimal possibility of infinite torment for some makes creating the universe immoral. even if heaven has infinite pleasure. even an open theist has to agree that God foreknew hell is a possibility. and nobody consents to being created to participate in that gamble.

God and children on the final judgement

i think God it's unfair even if he tries to be fair in the final judgment. especially because the fate of children

If all children are saved, even though some would prefer to stay with the sinful parents as they love them more than they love God. Then God can be said to be guilty of child kidnapping. If the children are destroyed with their parents by God then God is at fault for child murder. If these children were. somehow transformed in heaven so as to not feel their love for their parents more than God then God would be at fault for brainwashing.

I don't think this exact argument/trilemma has been made before. and i am anxious if any of you could show me a way around this somehow because I don't see any.

My highly hypothetical question is about if this would be some kind of sin. because of lack of faith even though it would be cool and a chance to prove to the world he is really the savior of the whole world.
