Does anyone not understand why neurotypicals need friends?

The neurotypical need for friends is just absolutely astounding to me. I have friends in my life and I enjoy them but not at the expense of my values or self respect. Neurotypicals jump through so many hoops for friends, it's ridiculous. If you can't be happy on your own, you will never truly be happy, I promise.

Why do so many allistic people prioritize quantity over quality for relationships?

I have a relative who is allistic (but not neurotypical) and she is obsessed with reaching out to people for social connection. She's constantly reaching out to people and even travels to meet them. For example her boyfriend was involved in a legal situation and she decided she needed to meet their lawyer in person (he had handled the case remotely) and spent time driving and on accomodations so she could meet him. She constantly does this and admits she does it for people who she isn't very close to and might not care that much about her.

To me it just seems like she is very desperate to be liked and cares excessively about what people think. I feel like so many allistic people are like her and choose quantity because their self esteem is based off of how many people like them. I fundamentally can't relate as an autistic person.

What did you do to find your tribe as an autistic adult?

Autistic support groups are everything to me! Joining one was the best decision I've made. We have a discord and it's super easy for autistic people to find friends there.

Do you ghost people?

I hate ghosting people and think it's really rude. I feel like most autistic people (including almost all of my autistic friends) hate the idea of ghosting but I'm wondering if there's people who do that?

I can't understand the idea of sleeping with someone into a job

Recently a relative (who is not really bright) told me that she started dating a guy. He is working on some sort of tech/ai startup company. She asked him if he could start working for him and landed a job in HR. I just can't imagine feeling like you deserve a job because you're sleeping with someone. The guy who hired her is supposedly autistic himself. I also feel like it is really not typical of autistic people to hire someone based on who they know rather than who is the most capable person. I just can't imagine an autistic person participating in this level of nepotism.

Should people be kicked out of autism support groups for talking about their special interest

Someone in a support group I attend got kicked out for talking about one of her special interests which was Hitler and Norse mythology. She wasn't a Nazi or anything, and she genuinely didn't mean anyone any harm, she just doesn't understand neurotypical conventions on tact. Someone higher functioning than her got offended and complained, and the group wouldn't take her back even when she apologized profusely. I feel like this was too harsh because we should be allowed to unmask.

Why do neurotypical people like to tell stories about how irresponsible they are?

I don't understand why NT people like to tell stories that show how irresponsible they are and they act like it's a flex. These stories often involve excessive drug use or other irresponsible behavior. I was hearing about how someone went on a big bike ride during vacation but they missed the ferry back so they had to stay at a different hotel than they one they booked and they didn't even have their phone charger. I appreciate how the autistic community doesn't appreciate irresponsible behavior and we try to plan things ahead of time instead of being wacky and spontaneous. What explains this?

Have you ever been bullied by an autistic person? What happened?

This has never happened to me so I'm curious if this is a common experience or not.

What are some positive traits about autism?

We're more open minded

We're more honest

We're more tolerating of differences

We care more about evidence and fact

We don't base our lives off of social hierarchy or trends

Anything else?

Does anyone think living in an autistic-centric community would be amazing?

There would be no hierarchy and community decisions would be made communally. There would be way less toxic bullying and gossip, and people would be overall kinder to each other. Seriously, why isn't this a thing yet?

Does anyone find the autistic people in their lives way more competent than the NT people?

It feels like autistic people value competency and skill way more. NT people care more about things looking good and having a good image which is really frustrating to me. Or they just stand around and faff around instead of focusing on problem solving.

For example when working on a group task like cooking, autistic people will be the ones researching the recipes and doing the planning whole NT people will just sit around and talk about how hard they're working. Or they don't plan ahead to figure out how to best use the kitchen and wing it, which wastes a ton of time. I don't get it

Why are people with autism better at taking feedback?

I find that whenever I give feedback to autistic people they respond so much better and treat it as information. Neurotypical people take feedback as an attack. Anyone else notice this?
