Bug infestation

Recently stayed at Jaguarundi lodge in Monteverde CR. On the second night, we got a huge infestation of these jumping beetles that swarmed our belongings and our luggage (I think they’re attracted to human scent). We immediately asked the front desk to be relocated. They moved us into a room down the hall but this room was infested too. We asked to be moved out of the jungle portion to their sister hotel down the street, which belonged to the property. They told us we needed to pay for the upgrade. The GM wasn’t on site and wouldn’t be until tomorrow morning. We had prepaid tours that morning. I booked through hotels.com and they said I would need to take it up with the property for a refund. It was 11 pm local time and the only closest hotel was Belmar, running $450/night. Paid out of pocket. The GM of Jaguarundi said only partial refund for the days that weren’t used despite asking for a full refund. Would you accept this? What can hotels.com do to help? We went over budget by $300 and cleaning our clothes at 11 pm after a long day was tiring.

Why does my body react more to some mosquito bites vs others

I get skeeter syndrome (yes, it’s real condition and really annoying) depending on where the mosquito is from. So far, large welts from species in Las Vegas, Hawaii, the Southern United States. Small to no welts from species around the Great Lakes, Pacific Northwest, South Africa. Moderate sized welts in Central America and Southern California. Anyone know if the species change according to latitude?

Amex cracking down on wireless credit?

I paid for my ATT fiber internet with my Amex biz platinum last 2 months and the credit was given the same day as the charge posted. Now it’s been almost a week and a half and nothing. Talked with the csr and they said they’re allowing up to 14 days. Thinking they’re cracking down on how it’s being coded. The last 2 times the charge was listed as ATT with some extra codes, now it’s just ATT alone. What gives? Also, feel like Amex has been more stringent on their card offers… if it wasn’t for the SUB, the $895 AF is waaay too much.

First time abatement question

I didn’t realize I was accumulating so much penalties and interest on underpaying my estimated taxes. Initially it was 4k for Q2 then it rolled over into Q3, but ballooned up to 25k, which got rolled over into Q4. My CPA didn’t catch this when crunching the numbers for my tax return (they double counted a quarter) so I have to pay about $1k in penalties and interest. My CPA was able to get the penalty waived after calling the IRS but not the interest. To make things right, should my CPA be covering the interest? Or should they try calling the IRS again? I tried calling myself and was on hold for more than an hour only to have the line disconnect. I could have easily avoided this accrual if they told me that I had underpaid. The other thing is my mother had passed away in January and I wasn’t in the right headspace to catch estimated tax errors. I have her medical records as proof. Would the IRS waive something like this or would they argue since the underpayment started in Q2 and snowballed I should have caught it way earlier?

Washed out by bright lights or night vision

The outdoor blink cameras get a complete white out for a few seconds if exposed to strong sunlight and maybe reduces the white out by 30% while it’s recording after that. Worse is when it transitions from rbg to ir. Their night vision is garbage. Is there a way to fix this in the settings? I had the first gen wayze cams from 9 years ago and the video quality is comparable.

Refund but not the full amount

Long story short, I returned shoes because of hotspots. What I learned was because I had REI rewards on my account last year that were still active, they deducted that amount off of the return. To make matters worse they refunded the wrong item so I was out a few dollars. I let it go because my intention was not to abuse REI’s return policy and they’ve graciously accepted items that failed on me earlier than expected. However, the REI rewards being deducted off my credit irks me. Those rewards were accumulated from purchases independent of this one. Is this a new policy now? I’ve never had them do this in the past and I got my full refund to my credit card.

Hellogov with clear plus membership

Has anyone tried to use hellogov passport services for their clear plus entitlement? Wonder if it codes the same as a purchase under clear. I already have a clear membership via HH aspire card.

State income tax exempt dividends

I live in a no income tax state but earn income in other states with income tax as a sole prop. Do state income tax exempt dividends from etfs ( comprised of t-bills and bonds like SGOV) still count as income on my tax returns for states with income tax? My friend says yes because the investments were under my personal brokerage account, not a business brokerage account. It wouldn’t count in my state of primary residence. I thought as a sole proprietor it’s all the same whether personal or business?
