(NO NON SCRIVETEMI IN CHAT RICHIESTE STRANE PORCO DIO):
I’m sharing what happened and the theories going around, because no one seems to have a solid technical explanation and I’d like to know if the same thing has happened to anyone else. For context, I live in Italy, and everyone else I’ve heard of who got hit is Italian too. It’s all been happening over the past two months.
The situation: my friend’s WhatsApp account is sending his contacts money requests with IBANs, and he can’t see either the messages his account sends or the ones it sends to me. The IBANs look like they belong to money mules. The explanation attached to it talks about older iPhones (specifically below the 14) running outdated iOS, a “ghost session” on WhatsApp created by an unidentified malware, and a bot that sends the messages without the owner’s knowledge.
The theories I’ve seen circulating are that they steal the session token by exploiting some recovery flow, that they force something on WhatsApp’s side since the key is stored locally and not on the server, an initial guess of a SIM swap via eSIM, and a link to the real zero-click vulnerabilities in the news (the CVE-2025-55177 plus 43300 chain, DarkSword on iOS 18, Apple’s alert to users in 110 countries this August, spyware like Paragon).
The catch is that those documented attacks steal data or carry out surveillance, and there’s no evidence they hijack your account to send IBANs to your contacts.
PS No, my friend had no active WhatsApp session other than his own device. He has an iPhone 11, and yes it hadn’t been updated for a few months. No, he didn’t click strange links or receive any codes (he was at work at the time and wasn’t using his phone), no, he doesn’t watch illegal streams (frankly he wouldn’t even know how). In short, he’s a basic user.

Ciao a tutti!
In my defense, I hadn't played for a year and had deleted everything; I re-downloaded everything, including the animations. The mod seems to be working (in the sense that it opens the settings, etc.) for example, I no longer see the editing mode. When I click on my Sim, it shows that it's active and I can make changes, but I can't do anything with the rest. Yes, I've also downloaded some animations, but nothing happens.
Hi everyone. I’m F33 and I live in Italy.
My partner (for privacy, let’s call him Adam) was diagnosed with autism a few days ago.
We’ve been together for five years. When we met, I sensed he was carrying a lot of pain, but I assumed it came from his past (long story short, he hasn’t spoken to his parents in 10 years and grew up in a really rough family situation). So I helped him find psychological support, with his consent of course. A little over three years ago he was diagnosed with bipolar I disorder, and since he started medication his life has improved dramatically.
Last year he went through a terrible burnout at work, and after that he entered a long phase of social withdrawal that has lasted until now. He found a new therapist, because his previous one isn’t based in this city (she’s in the city where we used to live, and they were doing sessions remotely), so having someone local made more sense. After an intake session, looking at his earlier test results and hearing about his situation, she ran a series of tests. They aren’t finished yet (in September he’ll also take the one for ADHD), and the results show he’s high-functioning autistic (people used to say Asperger’s, but I know that term is ableist).
A few days have gone by, and he tells me he still has mixed feelings about all of this. He’s also afraid of “regressing” now that the diagnosis is official, because he says that happens a lot.
Honestly? It doesn’t change anything for me whether he’s autistic or not, because I’m in love with him as Adam, and he’s the best person I’ve ever met.
I’m posting here because I’ll admit I know very little about high-functioning autism, aside from the sometimes overly romanticized stuff I see on Italian TikTok. I’m not going to change a single thing about how I act with him unless he explicitly asks me to, which hasn’t happened so far. In five years, given how honest he is, he would have already pointed things out to me (which has happened now and then), and we work on it together and find a middle ground, or we simply change something.
The situation doesn’t scare me at all. What makes me sad is knowing how worried he is about this new understanding of himself and all the fears that come with it.
Do you have any advice for me? Maybe some reading suggestions. Unfortunately my English isn’t good enough for technical books, so I’d prefer YouTube videos or websites I can easily translate.
Thank u 🩷
Ciao a tutte!
Non so, mi sento parecchio triste.
