On Thursday, July 9, the city's Planning Commission will consider a proposal to replace the shuttered Hyatt Place at 750 North Nash Street with a five-story, 230,780-square-foot data center and its own 66/12 kV electrical substation. The city file is Environmental Assessment No. 1400. The site was purchased in 2022 by Welcome LAX LLC for $49 million.
First I'm hearing about this. I will be going to the hearing! !!! Every other city gets to ban these but El Segundo gets stuck with MORE?
Son. I'm Crine.
An undercover sting turned up roughly $1.2M in illegal bids. It's the second such case since the Jan. 2025 fires.
The sting included looking for online ads for construction work that listed no license number, then invited the contractors to a Pacific Palisades home to bid on building an ADU and demolition. None were licensed, prosecutors allege, and together they bid as much as $1.27 million.
Contracting without a license is usually a misdemeanor. In a declared disaster zone, it is a felony. Five defendants face up to three years; one faces up to six because of a prior strike. All are presumed innocent.
Santa Monica's Gap store, the first Gap location in Southern California, closes for good on July 23 after nearly 55 years at Wilshire and 20th. Opened in 1971, it hosted celebrity customers, a "Weird Al" Yankovic music video shoot, and served as a supply hub during the 2025 Palisades wildfire.
The site is set to become an 8-story, 260-unit apartment building, part of a wave of new housing rising along Wilshire. From: https://probablynews.org/story/local-news/santa-monica/gap/santa-monicas-first-gap-store-closes-july-23-making-way-for-260-apartments
Thank you Councilwoman Traci Park! https://probablynews.org/story/traci-park-surges-to-early-lead-in-district-11-primary
I thought the airport was CLOSING! First there was JSX and now there is this. East Venice residents are surely not going to be happy! https://probablynews.org/story/thought-santa-monica-airport-was-closing-an-electric-air-taxi-maker-wants-in-first
Hi guys!
I just got brunch at Beethoven Market today and thought I'd post an update for the foodies in here that love the place!
A. The food is still fantastic and they opened for breakfast and lunch with the same quality of food for dinner!
B. The Mar Vista Community Council (which is the neighborhood they are in) passed their support for the restaurant's liquor license in a 7-3-1 vote in favor (3 against, 1 abstain). There were over 200 people at the meeting with most of them overflowing to outside. Many critics weren't able to show up because of possible harassment. The overwhelming majority of attendance were people in favor of the CUB permit. The room was HEATED. https://probablynews.org/story/beethoven-market-gains-mar-vista-council-support-after-heated-vote
EDIT: I did not make this post for people on the council or residents nearby to be shamed! I live nearby and have had amazing experiences and I have been able to mitigate anything negative. I empathize with people who are having issues and I am confident that the Beethoven Market team and Jeremy will work to solve your problems. Thanks for all the comments guys, love ya!
