Undocumented board on this Marantz 2220B

Greetings experienced techs!

The board on the left (highlighted red) does not appear in the service manual, nor on any online photos I’ve seen of this model.

It has 2 double shielded wires going in/out, I assume audio signal + a single voltage rail.
Both wires go to the FM board (highlighted green).

The board has 2 trimmers, 2 transistors, 4 tantalum caps, and a handful of resistors.

I assume it’s a later revision where some of the functionality was moved off the main board, and I’m
Just curious why that is.

reverse engineering it will be a PITA, so if any of you happen to know what it is, that would be great!

Have a great analog day!

Weird Failure Test of Transistors

Hi everyone!
Hope your day is going great.

I am attempting to service this Marantz receiver which was partially working before - it had very low output with very high distortion.
After removing the amp board for a recap (bad capacitors were found) I've decided to test these output transistors before putting them back in.

When testing all 4 with a DVM they all seem to show consistent voltage drops (~0.55V) and no shorts.

However, I have 2 Chinese multi-component testers, and one shows three of them as NPN/PNP transistors respectively, but with an HFE between zero and 3, except for one which has an HFE of 63.
Another similar tester from another brand shows all 4 as 2 diodes instead of a transistor.

I haven't encountered this before, and I'm curious if I should trust the testers, the DVM, or none of the above?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Share your top blocked domains, I’ll start.

It’s curious to see how unique they are.
For us it’s the big guys.

One of the rarest tapes in our collection.

Apparently the manufacturer, Adams Magnetic Products, is still in business!

Have you ever seen one before?

Pistachio’s normal gait is off - look at her hind left leg.

California USA, Pistachio is 2.5 YO and otherwise healthy.
Her gait has been like that since she was a kitten but got worse as she grew up.
It usually doesn’t bother her, but the severity of it can change from week to week.
However, she runs slower than her siblings, and rarely climbs the many trees we have around while her siblings love to climb. Could be unrelated.

Last year she had an incident where the limp was so severe that she could hardly walk.
We took her to the vet. Skeletal x-rays looked all normal, so she got some pain and anti-inflammatory meds and a few weeks later she got back to “normal”.

The vet’s diagnosis was either a genetic mutation or previous trauma to the soft tissues, and will require MRI to positively identify. Even then, the odds of it being reversible are low, and the risk may be high so they recommended we just let it be and reconsider if it worsens.

Now, we live in a rural area with a small local general clinic, no orthopedic experts nor much experience with these types of challenges.

If there is a vet or vet tech here that has seen similar cases before, your input will be greatly appreciated!
If there’s anything we can do to help her, we would be grateful. She and her siblings eat a nutritionally complete food (raw ground chicken with bone and internal organs + Taurine and other vitamins and minerals. We also give her daily Cosequin supplement.

I know about r/AskVet but they don’t allow video upload and it wouldn’t make much sense without it, so I thought I’ll try here first.

Thanks for your help! 🙏

Canon C100 mkii - DC plug won’t lock in place

Hi all!
Bought this camera off fleabay for my studio.
It came with an original battery and the CA-935 charger / adapter.
It works fine with the battery, but I can’t get it to work with the DC power cable.
It seems to be the right size, and I don’t see any obvious damage neither to the socket nor to the the barrel connector, but it just won’t go all the way in or lock in place, and the camera won’t power on.
Before I attempt the “use the force” method, I was wondering if this is a known issue or whether I am an idiot and missing something obvious.
Thanks for your help!

A $70 SS3602 “Solid State Audiophile Op-Amp”

With hundreds of positive reviews claiming “amazing sonic improvements, veils lifted, details revealed, soundstage expanded”…

Took a Dremel and a cutter to it to find out what is inside, and found a 70 cent worth of NE5532P, one of the most ubiquitous IC op-amps. 🤦

* By the way, even the truly discrete ones make absolutely zero audible difference…
