The pain of slowly losing people 💔

So i have this uncle aunty like door ke rishte daar type in nyc, when i first came to US from pak like ten yrs ago i lived with them for a while so we were very very close like my parents ki tarah hain woh. Idk they’ve been asking me to come meet them and all and i really want to but like idk i obviously cant tell the truth about me or my partner. Like they wont be ok with it.

My issue is if i tell them the truth i genuinely risk losing them in the sense theyll just stop talking or associating with me. And if i dont tell them the truth it will come to a point where ill try to avoid them because i cant stay away from my partner too. what if in future we have kids, like itll be just messy i cant pretend to be away from my chosen family to be with my actual family that doesnt get it. And i mean its my uncle and aunt not my parents ke itne mein jatan bhi karun. But u get it i hope, the pain of slowly losing ppl, who, if reality was different, might not have happened.

Question for the mods

So my last post was removed because I called out a toxic person from my residency program to make other imgs aware. I personally think naming and shaming people is the right thing to do especially if they are toxic/racist etc for the betterment of all imgs.

APPNA house was a mess

So im an old pakistani IMG. I’ve completed my training and now am an attending. Anyway wanted to share this story of my short but traumatic time at APPNA house chicago.

For those who know, appna is this pakistani physician organization of NA they had or maybe even have a house in chicago, i visited it in 2016 for my CS. I literally entered the house for five seconds and got out lol. It was a mess.

About 10-12 guys living in a single room sharing a single bathroom. Mattresses, dirty clothes everywhere. Literal cockroaches everywhere and this was like 2pm. I legit got out within 5 seconds with my bags like im not staying here. Booked an airbnb nearby and it went thru then the woman asked if im coming from appna house. I was dumb enough to say yes and she cancelled my booking saying she had issues with bed bugs from ppl from there. Ugh. I think booked a hotel in downtown and legit escaped.

Moral of the story: facilities for IMGs are shit, and maybe they are made shit with no upkeep because ppl are desperate. Please dont be, have worth and demand decency. Always reach out to your peers and name and shame. These ppl have gotten away with less than bare minimum because no one shames them. Appna house chicago was a disaster, no idea if it still even exists. What a time.

Physician awaiting USCIS approval

DOS recommendation May 26.
Uscis still pending.
Applied H1b: got. RFE for pending waiver.

J for board extension will expire in Nov. IF by that time waiver approval doesn’t come (who even knows) what are my options? Can I switch to O visa in time? Will that be consular processing?

Name and shame

Hi guys! I recently came across this sub and thought I would share something here. I graduated from Albany Meds IM program back in 2010s, have gone on to become a cardiologist since then. The IM program as amazing but I want to talk about this one toxic person who iykyk. She is truly the second incarnation of devil.

Sulagna (suzie) Mookherjee.

A vile POS.

She is indian, but hates anything and anyone who isn’t white. She is racist (openly), demeaning to IMGs in the IM program who even slightly like cardiology and actively discourages them. If you have been in Albany Med or associated with her you’d know the evil she truly is. During rounds once, she told my co resident to not “try to impress her”, the guy was just presenting a patient doing his job. She has done numerous other stuff, she once said “all these arabs and indians” need to remain in their countries. She is extremely sick. Some tea on her: she had the hots for the interventional attending there but never got to marry him so she married someone else instead who is ten times less hotter. The place is very incestuous and weird. Glad I got out when I could.

Vermont problem

So it seems like vermont center is the issue with delays. Texas seems to be moving normally. USCiS has internal workflows to redirect cases based on workloads and staffing. If anyone is stuck due to their waiver being in vermont, do you think its a reasonable ask to have the application internally transfer to another center for adjudication? Has anyone done this, heard of it? Asked lawyer about this?

Are nebbies generally adventurous and outdoorsy?

So whenever we open the door of our apartment, pupu runs out and just like runs and runs and we have to catch him to bring him in. Ive seen lots of nebbies here going out on strollers and all. We have never done that with pupu. Should we? Im scared he may be too overwhelmed.

Kids?

This may be a niche topic but I think being a parent is a very innate thing for adults. Do you guys have kids, want kids? If yes, how do you plan on that? My partner and I both want kids and are hoping to go through surrogacy in future. Would love to chat with fellow pak people who may have gone thru it or planning to.
