[i ate] Hudon katsu

Some place in chinatown, Montreal.

It was hudon noodles with some sort of cury and pork tenderloin. It was honestly one of the best meal i've ever had and it was like 12$ with a cream soup as starter and tea.

EDIT: i think it's Udon, not hudon. Amazing regardless

Looking for brutal tech with "square" beat

I'm not a big fan of constant tempo change and all over the place drums etc. I like when it grooves. You know, like Dying Fetus. Head banging technical stuff. I like Hour of Penance quite a lot, and Antithesis from Orginin as well.

[I ate] Pork belly ramen

Simply stunning.

There's a japanese grocery store in Boucherville,Qc and there's a bar where fresh fish is displaysd with a Japanese chef who cooks everything in front of you from sushis to ramen and Katsu. The best place for lunch around the region.

what does your music journey look like since you got into music?

My journey started when i was around 8 listening to what my parents were listening. Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Michael Jackson, Brian Adams, TLC etc etc. You know, 90s pop stuff.

Then late 90s i made a bunch of friends who introduced me to Operation Ivy. This is the very tape that started it all. I can't stress enough how special is that record.

Then I got into Lag Wagon, Big Wig, Ten foot pole, No use for a name, No fun at all, Pennywise etc. You know, skateboard punk stuff.

Then i've been introduced to Primus. I think I was 14 at the time. I still think to this day that Les Claypool is my favourite artist ever.

Then i got into metal with the big names such as Metallica, Pantera etc. I randomly bought Cowboys from hell during a school trip to toronto, i think it was in 2000. Oh and one of my friend was heavily into Cradle of Filth, so I jumped into that as well.

Then in my late teen/early 20s, i really don't know what happened to me but i got into Hip Hop during almost two full decades. Mostly French hip hop from France and East Coast US. I abandonned all types of music except hip hop.

It's quite recent that I got back into real music, like 5 years ago. I heavily got back into Primus, bought a drumset(because I used to play drums when i was younger). I also started spinning those Cradle of Filth records I used to spin.

Then i made research to find "true" blackmetal band since Cradle of Filth is not really BM even though i though they were. I tried a bit of Emperor and Darkthrone and i realised it was not my cup of tea.

So i made research to learn more about death metal. (it was 2 years ago). I randomly found None so Vile, and oooohhhh my god, this is were it all started to, this obsession with Death Metal. It took me to Blasphemy made Flesh, First 5 Cannibal Corpse, ABCF from Morbid Angel, then all Death discography, then first 4 Napalm Death, Death Breath, Black Breath, Terrorizer, Repulsion, Midnight

Right now i'm heavily into Brutal/tech. Dying Fetus is what obsessed me right now. I think they are Top
Tier and up there with my favourite band ever, Primus.

Also Hour of Penance, Mortal Decay, Defeated Sanity, Malignancy, Origin

This is my story. My deathmetal backlog is still huuuuge and i'm just so amazed to see how many many many different bands and records this genre contains.

Who's your favourite brutal vocalist and why is it John Gallager

He's always been just too good. There's a groove in this guy's vocals nobody ever came close to in my opinion. I'm trying to think of anybody else i like as much and I just can't.

Who's your favourite(s) ?

Any Dying Fetus worship bands out there ?

To me, Destroy the opposition, War of attrition and Reign Supreme are goated and i'm looking for a similar sound. You know, beefy riffs with occasionnal alien-ish riffs. God how i like those 3 albums !

How is touring for older folks ?

Out of curiosity, i wonder how it feels for older folks to keep touring. Is it out necessity to bring bread on the table or really just for the passion of doing it ?

I'm curious because i was talking to my friend who's been living off small gigs for the past 2 decades. I was saying i was really impressed by old DM bands still touring and playing almost everyday and he said: "they don't really have a choice. That's what Rockers and metalheads are and that's all they know. They simply need to bring food to the table."

Do they really enjoy doing it or they wish they just could retire ?

Looking for recs for family vacation

Hi friends !

we are a familly of 4 looking for a place for a trip in central/south America from december 31st to January 10th.

We have sons of 8 and 19 so we would like to find some place to please both of them. I was thinking about Guatemala or Colombia perhaps. We would like to rent a car and visit the country mostly by ourselves considering areas to avoid etc. We did that last year on the Yucatan Peninsula and we all
had such a blast !

We like to eat good food in restaurants and also cook at our place, hiking, snorkeling, water sports etc.

Any of you has cool destinations to share where you spent family vacation and did rent a car ?

i could also do with organized tours and UBER but it's clearly not what we prefer.

thank you !
