Roller blading vs. ice skating

So I tried rollerblading for the first time ever today and it is nothing like ice skating. Besides it being inline, everything felt so different. Ice skating is easier. Has anyone else experienced this?

Fear on the ice

Hello, as you can tell by the title, I am a brand new skater trying to fight my fear on the ice. I just started ice skating a a few weeks ago. I want to learn how to figure skate so bad because I always admired it as a kid. I’m 23 now and I figured better late than never. But my problem is I can’t get away from the wall and I always need to hold someone’s hand. I don’t feel stable. I got a pair of old rental skates for free and got the blades sharpened and still don’t feel stable or comfortable. I’m so scared of falling. I had a panic attack on the ice today that was so bad, I had to sit out for the majority of the public skate. I start learn to skate classes soon and I’m hoping they can help me get over my fears. Any tips?

I need advice

I (23f) have anxiety that has worsened over the years. It is also in combination with ocd and adhd. Currently, I take 5mg of buspar daily to help ease it and I occasionally see a therapist. I am also a full time student with other obligations outside of school.

My anxiety is affecting my life. It varies in severity each day and manifests itself in many ways. It mostly hits me when I am around people which is mainly when I am on my college campus. I get flooded with a wave of nervousness and I can’t help but want to go back home. When I am in class, I sometimes will get mini (or in some cases full) panic attacks and I have to find ways to calm down. I sweat profusely, get fidgeting, breathe heavily, and feel as if all eyes are on me. Unfortunately, my anxiety occasionally syncs to my bladder so when this wave of panic hits me, so does an urgency to pee so I have a tendency to leave class more times that I should to use the restroom. It doesn’t matter if I went right before class, I still get that urgent feeling from time to time. Believe you me it is fucking horrible. This unfortunately makes things worse because it makes me feel embarrassed for leaving in the middle of a lecture. I really hate small classes for this reason. It’s so much easier to sneak away in a larger classroom than a smaller classroom. I have shown up late to class over my anxiety, missed class over it, and left early. I hate it. I really hate. I wish I could be more normal and less anxious all the time. Outside of class, my anxiety is not as bad but it’s definitely there. The bladder issue is what really drives me nuts. It’s really distracting and frustrating.

I am posting this because I genuinely need advice on what I can do to cope. I realize that nobody here is a doctor and I am not necessarily seeking medical advice, just overall personal experience advice.

What should I do in this situation?

To preface, I moved into my downstairs apartment with my boyfriend in June and honestly the place is decent at best but it’s relatively cheap so it is what it is. Anyway he works full time and does online college classes, I’m a full time college student so we tend to go to bed early and wake up early. Our new neighbors just moved in a couple weeks ago upstairs and ever since then, it has been a mess. There’s 5 of them total in a two bedroom apartment: a couple, the boyfriend’s dad, and two small children. The children bang, kick, and scream at all hours of the day and night only really stopping when they go to daycare in the mornings. The couple fight often. They scream at each, sometimes even taking the argument outside, and they bang doors. It actually scares me sometimes because they can get really intense and loud. I asked her the other day if she was being abused and she told me no. My boyfriend and I actually had to get involved during one of the arguments to help the girlfriend out because the boyfriend stole her charger. We went and bought her a new one to help her out. We try to help people where we can. Anyway I’m too nervous to confront them and beg them to keep it down because of the boyfriend’s aggression. I really don’t want issues. Also the girlfriend promised us no more fighting after we helped get her a charger and it’s still going on. It’s affecting our sleep because they do this at all hours of the day and night. Google says I should report this to my landlord. What should I do?

Should I take birth control?

I’m a 23 year old college student who currently deals with uncomfortable and painful periods. I’ve experienced pain so bad that I’ve vomited, passed out, laid on my bed and shook, had ambulances called on me, and been hospitalized. My obgyn thinks it’s endometriosis and wants to do a lap surgery on me to be sure. I was prescribed 0.35 mg of a birth control called micronor. My obgyn told me that this should stop my periods and give me some relief which sounds wonderful to me but here is the unfortunate part: I am scared of the side effects especially the possible weight gain. I am in eating disorder recovery and have been for a few years but every now and then I get the same thoughts I had when I was younger. I am still scared of gaining weight and I am especially scared of my eating disorder coming back. I also have other mental health issues that I am fear birth control could worsen. I am, however, medicated for my anxiety and that does help. I mentioned this briefly to my doctor and she said that me experiencing many side effects is unlikely and I may at most experience minimal side effects. She also told me if it gives me any problems, then we will stop and try another one. This sounds very nice but the anxiety is still there. I am scared to start birth control but I’m also scared of my period. What should I do?

Should I take a major required course or a course that applies to my minor?

I am a transfer student and junior at Chapel Hill. I am also an archaeology major and medieval and early modern studies minor. This upcoming semester, I’m enrolled in a really fun and interesting course that applies to my minor and since this course is so interesting, all the seats are filled. Well a course that is a requirement for my major opened back up today and I am contemplating on taking it, however, it unfortunately runs at nearly the exact same time as the course I am taking for my minor. I really want to take the fun course but I know I need this class for my major. What should I do?

Edit***I should mention that the fun course for my minor is only offered once a year I believe. I am not sure how often the a major course is offered.

Am I wrong for questioning if I should have kids or not?

This is a very random post and not something I usually talk about but it is something I think about every now and then. I am a 23 year old woman, I am a student, and I have been with my boyfriend for 5 years. I’m not married, I do not have a stable career yet, I am not settled anywhere yet, and quite frankly I feel like I am still very young so I do not understand why this is something I think about but I just do. My boyfriend wants a family with me and he talks about it often. I get excited when we talk about it because I would love to be a mother. However, there is this dread that takes over me when we talk about this topic and sometimes when I contemplate having children. I am so scared for the future and the earth my kids will inherit. I am absolutely livid over the state of the world, environmental issues, the economy, and the invention of AI. I am also livid that I was not born 50 years earlier but that is beside the point.

I want to have children at some point in my life, but I am worried that I would be making a very selfish choice in doing so. I know we can’t predict the future but that doesn’t stop me from fearing it. I am so scared. Not just for future generations but for my own generation as well.

Has anyone else ever felt this way? Did you have children anyway and if you did, what was it like? Was it worth it to you?

Needing spiritual guidance on a decision

I know my post is long but please give it a chance. I really need spiritual guidance right now and I would appreciate the advice so much. I’ve asked for signs and I feel like I haven’t received any on what I should do. I’m hoping you will help.

I (23f) just moved a couple days ago into my new apartment with my boyfriend and 3 pets. We moved earlier than we originally wanted to because his new job wanted him to start right away. The reason we moved is because I got in as a transfer student to one of the best public universities in the country with a full ride scholarship. I do want to preface by saying I am just finishing up my associates degree. However, I have felt no excitement for a while and have dreaded this move. I originally was going to go to a small public university about 45 minutes from where I live. It is right by the beach, familiar, small, close to home, close to my doctors and my pets vet, has amazing financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and has research, internship, and study abroad opportunities so really everything about the original school I was going to go to is perfect for me and what I want. I last minute applied to the bigger, more prestigious university with better research, internship, and study abroad opportunities because my community college English teacher insisted I apply and sent them a letter of recommendation for me so I applied. I did not expect to get in. I figured at the most I would get waitlisted. However, I got in with a full ride. I was so excited and everyone around me was as well. They all said I should give up the old school and go to this one because it’s better. I even fell in love with the prestigious schools campus and compared it harshly to the other schools campus. Well, a few months ago I withdrew my application from the original school I was going to go to and accepted the offer from the new one. Although, deep down, I felt very scared to do that.

Now that we have moved, it’s been even worse. First, we moved to a new area that we both aren’t familiar with. I am currently unemployed and very lonely. He does not like his new job and our pets are very stressed right now. We’re stressed right now. I have to switch doctors and find a vet and get adjusted to a new area that I am already not a fan of because it’s a larger city with heavy traffic. I am used to a small coastal town with minimal traffic.

Also, ever since we moved in, our apartment has been giving us issues:

-For starters, they called us the day before we moved in and asked us to move in a day later because they still needed to replace the carpets. We said no because his new job expected him to start the day after our original move in date.

-Next, when we got here after packing, moving furniture, and hauling all our stuff here, we were informed that the apartment was not clean, the carpets still needed to be replaced and that we weren’t allowed to used the two bedrooms for the night, and that the cleaning guy was there so we’d have to work around him.

-Keep in mind our moving date and time was June 8th at 3. We arrive around 4:30 because of traffic. The cleaning guy was there and told us he was told to come at 4 and didn’t even know anyone was moving in that day. He had to rush through his clean meaning that the apartment was still filthy after he left. I was literally wiping away hardened food from the counter tops.

-That night my boyfriend had to sleep on the couch and I had to sleep on an air mattress on the floor.

-The next morning, the maintenance man replaced our carpets and I was finally able to move things into the bedroom.

-I noticed after that that the bedroom door is falling off the hinges.

I cleaned the apartment to the best of my ability and noticed that the faucet on the sink is broken. It sprays off to one side.

-That night gave us some more trouble. My boyfriend went to hook in our washer and dryer (the apartment came with a washer and dryer however we have our own so we told them we’d just bring our own and I recognize that that contributed to the issue a bit) and while he was doing that, he noticed the main water line was busted. The water line broke off while he was trying to hook the hose up and sprayed water everywhere! Our laundry room and part of our kitchen flooded and water seeped into our main bathroom (it’s right by the laundry room). Some of our things got soaked. I called immediately and got someone out there to fix it. He told us that we were supposed to have the maintenance crew come set it up and not do it ourselves. We were never told that and never had that issue at any other apartment we’ve stayed at.

-We also had to shut off our water for the night otherwise our entire apartment would be flooded. We couldn’t Shower, use the bathroom, or brush our teeth that night.

The maintenance staff has been wonderful I will admit. The maintenance guy said it was so bad that he had to buy a brand new part and come back three separate times today with a crew because there was something else wrong with it. He eventually got it fixed and set up my washer however he couldn’t set up my dryer because I need to buy a new cord for it. I need a three prong cord and my dryer is a four prong.

Aside from all of that, the apartment is a dump. There are nicotine stains on the ceiling, walls, thermostat, and window blinds, the ceiling is cracking and chips off, there is dried paint drops everywhere, cracking along certain areas like by the tub, and the second bathroom looks like a prison bathroom. Overall this is a big contributor to my stress.

I talked to the manager today and she switched up instantly. She went from being super friendly to rude in an instant after I asked her about lease termination. She said we can terminate our lease but we have by Friday to decide, anything after that would be a sublet situation. She also said if we terminate the lease, we’d get our rent refunded and I think a few other things refunded as well. She said that there is not other apartment available that we could switch into and that if we stayed, she will send out a professional cleaner and get new blinds. They did also fix my faucet luckily. That’s where I’m worried and need advice.

Option 1: stay
I could stay, let them fix the issues, and give this area a chance. I could try out that prestigious college and my boyfriend may eventually I find a new job. I myself may find a job. But we risk more things going wrong with the apartment, remaining unhappy in an area we don’t like, possibly him not finding a new job, and me being unhappy with stressed with the university.

Option 2: move out
We could void the lease, move, and stay in our camper on his family’s property for a bit until we get adjusted. He was offered a job that pays 35 an hour close to the original university I was going to go to (he currently makes 29 an hour now where we moved and was making 30 at his old job where we are from but this was the first place to offer him a job here so he took it) He didn’t accept it of course because we moved however they told him if anything changes, to call. So if they offer it back to him, he could take it. I can re-enroll in the original college however I am not sure if I would still get the same financial aid (they basically gave me a full ride as well with all my scholarships and financial aid packages). However, with this we risk going through another stressful and expensive move. We also risk having to stay in a camper with three animals again until we find an apartment. I risk the possibility of me regretting my decision about schools and asking what if (but also I do like the idea of being on a more laid back, smaller campus with less stress, academic challenge, and prestige. I’m just worried that I won’t get the same opportunities the more prestigious school is offering me).

Overall, I need guidance. What do you think I should do? Which option should I go with? Is there a middle ground? I’m not sure how I feel about subleasing if that is the middle ground. Also I am already very familiar with the original university I was going to go to. Honestly I am kind of regretting even applying to the prestigious university and I am not even sure if it’s worth it anymore. I was excited at first but now I’m just sad and stressed.

Do you intuitively feel like one decision is better for me than the other? Is there a decision I’m not considering?

Also, ever since we moved in, our apartment has been giving us issues. For starters, they called us the day before we moved in and asked us to move in a day later because they still needed to replace the carpets. We said no because his new job expected him to start the day after our original move in date. Next, when we got here after packing, moving furniture, and hauling all our stuff here, we were informed that the apartment was not clean, the carpets still needed to be replaced and that we weren’t allowed to used the two bedrooms for the night, and that the cleaning guy was there so we’d have to work around him. Keep in mind our moving date and time was June 8th at 3. That night my boyfriend had to sleep on the couch and I had to sleep on an air mattress on the floor. The next morning, the maintenance man replaced our carpets and I was finally able to move things into the bedroom. I cleaned the apartment to the best of my ability and noticed that the faucet on the sink is broken. It sprays off to one side. That night gave us some more trouble. We also had to shut off our water for the night otherwise our entire apartment would be flooded.

Overall, I need advice.

I need advice on college and moving
