Is it possible/normal for residential units not to have dampers? I don't see any here

Need to adjust since one room is getting all the air.

New Homeowner: Flex duct has several holes. More details below.

New homeowner. Noticed recently that the bathroom vent stopped blowing air. I went up to the attic (after doing some research) and found that one of the other flex ducts was on top of it, so it sort of collapsed. In the images, it is the shinier one. I moved the shiny one and restored air flow into the bathroom. The air wasn't super strong though. I went back up and noticed the flex duct has several small holes. I don't suspect we have animals (I could be wrong) but those tiny holes are blowing air out. Not an intense amount of air, but enough that I can feel it. I also noticed it is loosely duct taped to the boot (I believe I'm using the terminology correctly) that flows into the bathroom. I put my hand near the duct tape and was able to move it pretty easily, and I felt a lot of air.

So my plan, and correct me if I'm wrong please, is in two steps. Now, I should get a zip tie and tie the inner and outer ends tightly. Second, I have aluminum duct tape (image attached). I read I'm supposed to cut the outer layer, tape the inner layer, then seal the outer layer. Given how many holes I see, I wonder if it is instead worthwhile to tape only the exterior for now until the heat wave passes (or until fall) and then replace it. Is it something I could DIY? Seems simple enough, but I wanted to check with you guys. My bill went up so wondering if this could save me money too.

Bathroom supply vent suddenly stopped blowing air. Is this normal for 100 degree weather or something is up?

First time home owner. It's over 100 degrees outside and 76 inside. Learned about the 20 degree delta t and dampers. Pretty cool stuff. Yesterday, for no reason I can identify, the bathroom supply vent stopped blowing air. I've suspected it is the path of most resistance, as it seems last in like compared to other rooms. I don't have a tool to measure airflow, but I jumped and put my hand and didn't feel anything. So I can't tell if it's NO air flow or MINIMAL airflow. Either way, is this normal for the weather? Or is there something I should do/address? Scared to go into the attic, but I will if it will help distribute air.

Tips on how to find good contractors? And to understand skill sets?

Project: replace house siding with vinyl. Remodel of the kitchen (cabinets).

Context: I looked into getting a contractor for getting a new outlet and realized it's easy enough to do myself. My garage extension springs broke and I was quoted $550 on average from a few quotes. Spent $30 and did it myself. The algorithm has given me contractor memes and it's everyone joking about how much they upcharge people. Water heaters being the biggest meme. Contractors seem to chastise other contractors for charging too low. A lot of intense bitterness towards clients, which I sort of understand from my own career. Also minor, but being from Jersey I find a lot of contractors are close talkers and very pushy. I can hold my own, but it's getting pretty annoying to deal with.

Question: So I would like to know what a fair price would be for my projects and where to find good contractors. I don't really have word of mouth. I've used the neighbors app, but I feel like I'm not reaching people. I've researched top people/businesses but they are painfully expensive. I'm not afraid of a reasonable price, please don't take that away. But I don't know what reasonable means anymore.

Is it over for me guys? Baseboard has a depth of 3 and half inches

New home owner. The entire length of this baseboard heater is 39 inches. So too big for a 3 inches and the space of this corner is too small for a 4 inch. So thinking of an adjustable. But all of them seem to require 3 and a quarter less depth, but mine is 3 and a half depth. Also no backplate, so that'll be fun. What are my options here? Not skilled enough for a custom build, what is a reasonable price? Or is it something I could try myself?

Nail pops suddenly appears by window. Crack going down my bay window. Should I be concerned?

Moved in a little over a month ago. Might be two months. We repainted the entire house. So these are things I would have caught before but didn't see. A few days ago I noticed the nails popping by a bedroom window. I haven't seen them before and now they're cracking through the paint. Since it's not a room I use often I figured I must have missed something. A few weeks ago we had this cracky by the bay window in the living room. The bay window was sagging but we've since fixed it and made it level. Not sure if related but figured I'd share. We had an electrician rewire the house and we have minor ceiling sag, but again not sure if it is related. At what point do I get concerned?

1950-1960s house in New Jersey. Rained heavily recently but it's also rained before and I didn't notice any issues.

Sudden nail pop that's already breaking through the paint. Cause for concern?

So moved in a few weeks ago. Painted the entire house. Looked good for awhile. Noticed the other day these nail pops under a bedroom window. Looks like it advanced enough to crack through the paint. I want to monitor the progression, but wondering if this is immediate cause for concern? Any ideas or tips? It rained pretty heavy the last few days, but no water that I can see. Also didn't see this before during the last few times it rained. Old house, 1950-1960s and live in Jersey.

Nail pops appearing throughout my house. Should I be concerned?

Lived here for a few weeks. The house is from the 50-60s. Had the electricity rewired completely, so the electrician used the attic and the basement rather than cutting drywall. Figured the first image is from him stepping around. I see them almost everywhere in the attic. The second and third image is from my window. I've never seen those before and I repainted the house a few weeks ago when I moved in. I would have seen these, but now not only have they popped out but they seem to be breaking through? I read it could be seasonal changes (live in Jersey) but it could also be a foundational issue. Getting worried and wanted to get some thoughts from you all.

Hate the wire, moving my Fios CR1000B to the garage. Need wireless mesh/extender advice!

Alright, Reddit, I need your help before I lose my mind looking at this setup. I have Verizon Fios with a CR1000B router, and right now, the Ethernet line from my garage ONT is snaking its way straight across the gorgeous painted brick on my living room fireplace. It is an absolute eyesore, and getting rid of this cable is completely non-negotiable. I want to banish the router entirely to the garage where the ONT lives, but I need a 100% wireless setup inside the house to keep my living room clean.

Currently, when the router is in the living room, the Wi-Fi reaches the garage, basement, and outside just fine. However, my main concern with putting the CR1000B in the garage permanently is that the thick exterior brick wall will severely nerf my speeds and signal penetration once it’s broadcasting inward. Since I absolutely cannot run a physical backhaul line back into the house, what are my best completely wireless options to amplify the signal? Should I look into Verizon's Wi-Fi Extender Mini (which I understand uses a wireless 6E backhaul), or am I better off bypassing the Verizon Wi-Fi entirely, putting the CR1000B into IP Passthrough/bridge mode, and investing in a dedicated tri-band mesh system (like a TP-Link Deco or Eero Pro) where the main node sits in the garage and the secondary nodes link up purely wirelessly inside? Open to any advice on hardware configurations, garage temperature/humidity concerns, or alternative wireless strategies!

Decora Edge Built-in Levers vs. Wago Pigtails: Which camp are you in?

Adding a new pass-through outlet above an existing one. I'm using the new Leviton Decora Edge outlets. Since they have parallel dual-lever ports for hot and neutral, I can just daisy-chain right through the device. But part of me thinks I should throw 3-port Wagos in the back and run a pigtail to keep the device independent.

What’s the consensus here? Do you trust the built-in device levers for pass-through, or are you still pigtailing in the back of the box?

Thank you all for helping me. My first home gym.

I did research with this sub to learn a bit and I found something that works for me. Used to go to a commercial gym. Then to the tiny free apartment gym. Bought a house, so figured I'd start my own home gym. I love dumbbells and these Titans are amazing, 20 inch but I don't find them disruptive at all. Rep bench is plenty sturdy. And Rogue clips because I don't want anything falling on me. Naturally, I have horse stall mats. I appreciate you all. Now, to get massive.

Replacing garage door springs

So my garage door spring broke. Looks like a simple number 1 yellow, called the manufacturer to confirm. It has the safety wire. Attached a few images. But is it as simple as holding the door up and replacing the springs? How can I navigate around the safety wire?

This detected an extra stud, what is it?

I found a known stud. And I measured 16 inches and expected to find two more. I used this to find the known stud and it was right. I also found the two others I expected to find. But for some reason it detects a fourth stud that is only a few inches off one of my three studs. What could that be? Plumbing or wire?

Edit: I went for the one that was measured against two known studs. Ignoring the mystery fourth stud between stud 1 and 2. After getting through some material, the drill went through an open space. Like I went through something. The gap was small then it hit something hard. I can't drill through it. The drill isn't that far in, not enough to put my ribbed plastic anchors. Went down more than three inches. Same thing. It's a 1960 house.

New outlet, is it better to do a quadplex unit or two duplexes?

Mounted my TV and going to add a shelf for my entertainment (gaming PC, wifi, etc). This is to avoid my toddler pulling wires. Need at least four outlets. Wondering the best approach here.

Thoughts on the PSEG WorryFree program?

New home owner. Have a boiler that needs a feeder valve replaced and a water heater that isn't heating. Not sure when they were last serviced but they're both fairly new. Thinking a few bucks a month might not be the worst idea, at least until I get caught up enough to fix it myself.

Bay Window Sloping. Contractors telling me wildly different stories.

So it has a cable suspension system. I thought it would be as easy as jacking it up and tightening the screws. My inspector said as much. Had some contractors come and check. One told me there is absolutely no issue and the bay window is fine. He couldn't charge me in good faith since no work was required. The second told me the bay window is a disaster and needs a complete overhaul. He couldn't charge me in good faith to just tighten it, he would need a full redo as he would need to add materials to the gap between the brick and the window to hold it up. Now I'm wondering if I'm missing something or someone is playing me. Wondering what you guys think.

ULPT Request: Corner home dealing with people blasting music, smoking, etc.

New home, corner house. Near some offices and warehouses, but otherwise private and quiet. Neighbors are great. Noticed recently that others seem to enjoy that privacy too. They'll park in the street, which my window faces, and lounge. 3am I had to go out there for some kids smoking and blasting music. Just now during the day I had to go again because some lady decided to park and take a smoke break. The smell gets into my house. The noise gets in fairly easily.

Wondering if there are unhinged ways to deal with them. Thought about putting an intense, blinding, flood light but that'll only work at night. Cameras are a deterrent, but unless I mount it on the fence I doubt they'll notice. At least one neighbor appears to have some kind of timed mosquito sound, which sounds great but wouldn't work for my family. Too poor for a sprinkler system.

Wondering what you guys do? Yes it's a public street, but there are limits. I don't want it to become a hang out spot.
