St. Benedict Skull by Zane Wylie
In the hands of Zane Wylie, a labor of love, a resin replica, handcrafted from above.
Ninety-two hours, with chisel and file, carving a tribute with a whimsical style.
St. Benedict's skull, a sight to behold, with the Blessing carved in, both ancient and old.
Two medals adorn it, authentic and true, a nod to the saint, in a unique debut.
Included is a pamphlet, a guide to the saint, with an example loaning the medal, no feint.
This striking piece, oh the envy it incites, in anyone's collection, it's sure to ignite.
The haunting beauty of Otranto Cathedral in Puglia, Italy 💀🦴🇮🇹
If you’re into dark history, the Cathedral of Otranto in southern Italy needs to be on your radar.
Behind the altar sits a massive, floor-to-ceiling glass case packed with the neatly stacked bones and skulls of 813 men.
The story behind it: In 1480, an Ottoman fleet invaded the coastal town. The invaders demanded that the surviving local men convert to Islam. They refused, led by a local tailor named Antonio Primaldo. As a result, they were taken to a nearby hill and legally executed.
Today, they are known as the Martyrs of Otranto (canonized by the Pope in 2013). Walking into a beautiful, sunlit Italian cathedral only to be met by a wall of hundreds of skulls looking back at you is an unforgettable, eerie experience.
Definitely a must-visit if you are exploring the deeper, darker side of Italy’s history.
