The Switch 2 is now SOLD OUT at EB Games Australia - people rushing to buy one before the price increase?

I believe this is the first time since the launch week of the Switch 2 that the console has had any stock issues in Australia.

It seems pretty clear that the price increase in two weeks is causing people to ”panic buy” the console. I think August will be a HUGE month for Switch 2 sales worldwide.

I found this 15 year old Youtube comment on a Wii U trailer from 2011... it is hilarious in hindsight.

Do you own any “sexy” anime merchandise? How have other people reacted to seeing them?

I don’t have any super lewd (eg. nude) anime merch, but I do have a fairly sexualised poster of Hatsune Miku (showing cleavage) in my room. My father is totally fine with it; but by mother just gave me a silent stare of disapproval when she first saw it! Fortunately, she didn’t force me to take it down.

Do you own any ”fanservice” figures, posters, etc. of your waifus (or husbandos)? How have family and friends reacted to seeing them? Have you experienced any awkward moments because of your weeb merchandise?

Switch 2 Welcome Tour references the WiiU multiple times.

I think it is genuinely cool that Nintendo acknowledge their failures like this, instead of pretending they don’t exist.

The second image shows the Wii U Gamepad just above the Switch; perhaps the placement is just a coincidence, but the image seems to show how the Switch took inspiration from the Wii U’s tablet design.

What do you think of the female character designs for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave?

Do you like them, or do you think they are too… “fanservicey”?

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has a new feature called “Bird Time”.

Is THIS why the game costs 80 dollars?!

Do you remember when people were calling for Iwata to be FIRED from Nintendo because of the Wii U’s failure? What was your honest opinion of Iwata at the time?

I liked Iwata a lot, but I can admit there has definitely been some ”revisionist history“ going on with some of people praising Iwata’s leadership.

I remember when the Wii U was failing, many on the internet (even some hardcore Nintendo fans!) were calling for Iwata to be FIRED as president. When Iwata was repeatedly re-elected as president by Nintendo’s shareholders, many believed the shareholders were making a mistake.

Also, I think it is interesting how people now look back on the time when Iwata cut his own pay (twice!) and see that as an example of strong leadership. At the time, a lot of people thought it was not a meaningful action, and that only resigning from his position would be truly taking responsibility!

Back then, I remember thinking the hate for Iwata seemed somewhat excessive (although I was only a teenager at the time, so I admit that being a younger Nintendo fan may have made me biased). He certainly made some big mistakes, including approving the Wii U’s underpowered/gimmicky hardware and the 3DS‘s bad launch. But I don’t think those failures erased all the good he did for Nintendo, and Iwata in his final year hinted that the mysterious “NX” was going to be Nintendo‘s bold new future; as many predicted, the NX turned out to be the “hybrid console” many Nintendo fans had been asking for.

Unfortunately, Iwata passed away of cancer less than two years before the Switch’s launch, so he never got to see the success of the NX he had been planning up until his deathbed.

I am curious: what did YOU think of Iwata at the time? Were you one of the people calling to be fired because the Wii U flopped so hard? Do you think the anger at Iwata was overblown, or was it entirely justified? And do you think Iwata deserves the praise he gets now, or do you think he was overrated as a leader?

Nintendo's software sales data suggest that the average Switch 2 owner owns no more than ONE third-party game.

There is no doubt that the Switch 2 has the strongest AAA third-party support for a Nintendo console in DECADES.

Unfortunately for third parties, that support does not seem to be paying off with great software sales.

Nintendo have provided sales numbers for first-party games that sold over 1 million units. Combining those numbers together, we get a total of:

30.89 million (for those top-selling first-party titles)

But, there are several titles not included in that number. Add on low-selling Nintendo games like Metroid Prime 4, Mario Tennis Fever, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox... plus Switch 2 Editions of BOTW, TOTK, Kirby, Mario Wonder, etc... and we can estimate that total first-party are sales are probably at least 36 million.

Total software sales on Switch 2 are 58.17 million. That means third-party titles have sold approximately 22 million units, or less than 1 game per console sold.

Now, the good news for third parties is that even relatively low unit sales are probably enough for them to be profitable, as long as the costs of porting aren't too high. However, I think it is becoming clear that third-party sales on Switch 2 will never come CLOSE to what they sell on PS5 or PC. Even brand new third-party games like Resident Evil Requiem, launching the same day as all other platforms, are only getting a small percentage of their sales from the Switch 2.

What is your honest opinion of the Wii U Gamepad? How would you rate it as a controller, and as a "gimmick"?
