I’m begging - please help me figure out why my gingivitis is persistent

Hi friends,

I’m looking for recommendations and advice on how to get rid of my persistent gingivitis, and who I can go to for help. Here is my story, please read:

I’m 22 and have always had good dental hygiene until two years out of nowhere it seemed I developed gingivitis. I’ve tried so many options within these last two years:

- I brush twice a day with an Oral B toothbrush
- floss every night with coco floss
- tongue scrape
- and get pretty much consistent cleanings

The gingivitis wasn’t really something I noticed until I got a new pair of retainers that felt slightly off (was told that was normal) and led me to take a closer look look at my gums and noticed they looked a lil puffy, but I never really paid attention to them beforehand since I never had any issues. When I went to get a cleaning shortly after this, my hygienist was rough and I was bleeding so much. It was a total 180 compared to my normal cleanings that used to take 15 min and was told “looks great.” It was all so unexpected and left me feeling confused and worried.

Since then I’ve really worked on being 100% consistent in my hygiene routine.

I had another cleaning 4 months after that cleaning where I bled, then another cleaning and an exam 7-8 months after. No change after any of these.

After that latest cleaning and exam, I went back to see my hygienist two weeks later since she said to come back if inflammation persists. She gave me what she called a “mini deep clean.” She cleaned deeper under the gums than a usual cleaning would but not deep enough to need a real scaling or numbing. For reference my dental exam measured my pockets at 2-4 mainly consisting of 3s and 4s.

I was sure after this “mini deep cleaning” the gingivitis would leave, but no. If anything it looks worse and my gums look like they’re receding by the day. It’s been 1.5 months after my last dental cleaning and gums aren’t any better. To be fair, I incorporated a water flosser a few days after the mini deep clean because my hygienist advised to add it to my routine and I’m thinking it may have just caused more irritation because it’s been a few days since I stopped the water flosser and they’re ever so slightly less inflamed.

All this to say, I have no idea what is causing my gingivitis or how to get rid of it at this point. I don’t bleed when I floss at home but I bleed a lot during cleanings and the inflammation is so persistent!! My gums look like they have recessed even more since my last exam :/

I’m so young I’m getting extremely worried - it’s been two years and I see no improvement and no one is willing to listen to me. After ever cleaning I’m told the inflammation will go away in a few days/weeks but it never does.

Does anyone have any recommendations on who I can go to that will hear me out, listen to my story, and really examine what’s going on with my gums? I live in the Los Angeles area.

Someone please help I’m desperate and getting so worried. Preferably a place that also won’t charge me an arm and a leg🤞😢

I feel like I’m in the wrong industry. I don’t like healthcare IT but everyone around me loves it

Idk if this is the right sub but this is more a vent and question type of post. I started at this organization 1.5-2 years ago out of college and got assigned into their healthcare sector (not what I signed up for but I say yes to opportunities). Within the time I’ve been here (started as an intern now full time), I’ve been completely lost. Everyone around me is 10+ years older than me and been at the company for years/decades. I have no healthcare background (business background) and this whole industry of healthcare IT is so damn complex, confusing, and so boring to me. I look at others around me and question if they’re like me and fake their interest in Healthcare IT, but everyone is actually extremely passionate about the industry, their jobs, and the company.

I guess I’m struggling because I’m so lost, can’t get myself to care about this stuff, and it’s hard to learn about the field because there’s no courses I can take that will give me a well rounded understanding and everyone has been here for years and obviously they can’t transfer their knowledge to me. What makes this even more difficult is I work an internal job so I’m not hands on with clients or our products day to day. My job is so vague and ambiguous and the fact that I barely understand what’s going on at my company is driving me nuts and causing so much anxiety.

I don’t know what to say or ask, really, other than I’m wondering if others feel this way or if this is a sign to pivot after I get my few years of experience at this place. I have no idea what I really would like to do for work but I know what I don’t want and it’s this. Although Im a little upset and am trying to make myself like like where im at because I love the culture, my team, and my pay. It’s very conflicting and anxiety inducing for me :( ok rants over, thanks

Managers: Should a new junior employee talk personal life?

Hi managers,

I started my full time corporate job not too long ago. My manager and I mainly only talk business in our 1:1s, and I really like her so far. I would like to grow a stronger personal relationship which I know will come with time. I’m struggling to figure out what personal information I can share. I have a general sense of what is appropriate and what is not. But I’m struggling between the line of wanting to share personal details about my day to day, hobbies, new adventures, etc (all appropriate ofc), and maybe keeping these to myself and only providing her with details that are necessary to the job.

I guess I don’t know if sharing personal stuff about myself outside of work is appropriate, beneficial, or if it could come to bite me later on.

For context I never share anything inappropriate and mainly would like to share things like my hobbies, moving cities (I’m remote), an appropriate movie or show I like, travel, wants in life, etc.

I want to get taken serious in a business aspect but also be my authentic self, though I worry about showing this side of me. Also is it inappropriate to talk about my partner? For example saying my partner and I are trying to learn chess? Advice please! TIA

Binging due to taste?

Hi,
I’ve been binging since I was young probably around 9-10 years old (22 now).

I started therapy for it a few months ago and I don’t find it really helpful. I did try Reta for a few months which cured my BED and it was absolutely amazing, like full freedom (didn’t tell therapist about it). I got off because it’s not advisable to take BCP with a glp1.

Anyways, my therapist is very insistent that my binging is due to suppressing of emotions or not facing hard things. While I don’t fully disagree as I have binged due to stress or to procrastinate, but majority of the time I binge because I love the taste of the sweets, chips, food etc. More often than not, it’s simply to just get the dopamine hit.

I know many people on this sub tie their binging to an emotional level, but I’m curious if anyone here binges simply because they love food?

My therapist is very against this idea that I binge because I love food and she doesn’t like how I keep talking about how great it is. To me, I don’t want to be a binger, but it feels like a part of me and makes me so happy I love yummy food.

This makes me debate going back on a glp1 because nothing else has been able to help. The GLP1 still made me crave stuff but I could resist more and eat healthier portions. I wasn’t obsessing about food 24/7 as I always have.

Really weird but last night I had a dream about binging all this great food which I’ve never experienced before it really concerned me because it deadass feels like an addiction. I’ve been really addicted to weed before and I see myself carrying the same type of addiction habits as I have in the past.

Anyways this is kinda of like a vent but mainly I want to know, does anyone else feel like this? Am i actually suppressing something I just don’t realize? Or is binging strictly due to loving the taste a real thing?

How to meet people my age?

I’m moving to the valley soon and I recently graduated with my bachelors. I work remotely and know I’ll have to put myself out there to meet and make friends. Interested in meeting people around my age range 20-26.

I don’t love to drink, smoke, or party. I’m open to new adventures and enjoy spending time outdoors, working out, trying new restaurants/coffee shops, self care, makeup, etc.

Any suggestions on where to meet people or any clubs/activities to keep an eye out for? I figured joining a gym and having a consistent coffee shop could help in the meantime. TIA

How to prepare for the heat

My partner and I are moving to Woodland Hills in end of August. We currently live in San Diego where we are blessed with perfect weather (so sad to leave).

I’m actually so scared for the heat and how to survive it lol maybe I’m being dramatic but I’ve never lived in an area so hot. What helps you get through the summer? (We will be getting a one bedroom apartment) How expensive is your electricity bill? Is your AC on 24/7? Any insights/tips are appreciated. TIA!

Will TSA accept this?

I’m traveling internationally soon and bringing my one reconstituted vial with only two doses left (just enough). It’ll take me ~5 hours with the insulin bag and ice pack outside of the freezer by the time I pass through TSA security. I know ice packs have to be frozen. The ice pack is frozen, it’s not making noises when shaken, but it is condensating after 5 hours of sitting out on the counter. Anyone know if TSA will allow the ice pack to go through due to the condensation?

Bought this dress in navy and that color looks fantastic on me. I love how the dress fits—being 5’0 I found midi dresses to be best because they fit more like maxis on me lol. Anyways I decided to try another color, but I’m unsure if this color does anything for me. It’s a very light pastel mint. Let me know your thoughts! :)

My partner and I will be moving to Woodland Hills in August for a job opportunity. We are currently in San Diego, and love our apartment. It has good management, it’s quiet with no kids, luxurious, has parking, dishwasher, washing machine, and amenities.

We are looking for similar style apartments in the Woodland Hills area. Preferably a newer building with parking, little to no kids, and good management. 1 bed 1 bath. Budget is $3,100 but would prefer to stay under if possible.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Or areas/complexes to avoid, any information is appreciated! Thanks!
