5 weeks since launch. 390 opens, 80 people actually tried it, 0 subs. How do you make decisions with no data?
Language app, both stores, launched five weeks ago. No audience, no ad budget.
Here's what I've done so far:
Two weeks of daily posting on Instagram and TikTok. I did localized titles, subtitles and keyword sets, as well as screenshots and preview video for every app store. I went deep on ASO and I don't think the listing itself is the problem anymore.
Most users were friends, family, and people being polite. Here's the data:
- 400 people opened the app
- 216 finished onboarding
- 80 ever performed the core action even once
- 3 people ever touched the second core action of the product
- 0 subscriptions
- Installs peaked at ~10/day (friends and family), now ~5/day and falling
- D1 9.7%, D7 6.2%, D30 1.2%
Impressions aren't increasing. I don't rank for anything with search volume, and nothing searches for what I do rank for. The social content I post is drawing basically no one. I'm launching on ProductHunt next week and I honestly doubt it will do anything at all.
I can't rule the product out, but I also can't diagnose it with 80 people, most of whom I know personally. I need actual motivated users before I can learn anything, and I can't get them.
so, questions for people who've actually gotten past this point:
- When did your traffic stop being people you know? What was the first channel that produced a stranger who paid, and how long did it take?
- Is ASO actually a launch channel, or does it only work once you already have downloads and ratings feeding the ranking?
- How long did you post before organic social did anything? Two weeks feels short but it also feels absolutely useless and I don't know what the normal curve looks like.
- What worked that isn't "post on reddit and tiktok"?
