The sleekest most advanced point and shoot nobody talks about..

Haven’t shot this little guy in a while and forgot just how freaking good it actually is!! It’s crazy how much hype other point and shoots from the end of the film era get yet you never hear anyone talk up the later freedom zoom series from Minolta.. like, seriously I love this thing! Definitely worth picking up as a good small EDC film camera that works well in almost any situation.

As a kid, our local YMCA seemed off to me.. as an adult, I see why..

Visited my local YMCA today that I haven’t been to since I was a little kid.. when I was a child this place always felt kind of eerie and off to me and was the subject of a lot of weird fever dreams I had at around age 8.

Today, my little sister had her final swim class and wanted me to come watch her and immediately as I stepped in this place I was taking a back at how absolutely liminal every corner was so I whipped out an old digital camera I had in my backpack from 2004 (Kodak Z700) and started taking pictures. Enjoy~

Coffee caught on camera~ [canon rebel G, 40mm F2.8stm - 50mm F1.8 stm, Pro image 100 (color) HP5 (B&W)]

Did a fun little project where I captured 35mm film photos at my favorite coffee shops around town :) film is scanned by me (plustek8100) and developed by me. (For B&W Tmaxx dev, for color Cinistill two bath kit) my goal is to get results better than most *good* film labs can do and was wondering how my final results look to you guys!)

Views from Owen’s Corning

In all my years of living in Toledo I never walked around the iconic Owen’s Corning building. Very neat!! Such cool architecture, definitely gotta photograph it some more! Can’t believe I waited this long to check it out

Canon Rebel G punches FAR above its weight!!

Let me tell you guys about the criminality overlooked and under appreciated member of the 99s canon SLR family, the Canon EOS REBEL G! Personally, when it comes to ease of use and price to performance, this thing is a freaking bargain and I’ve loved using it so far! I think I’d go as far as to say this is one of the best starter cameras you can get for your first move in to film SLRs especially if you’re coming from a point and shoot.

To start, this camera is DEAD SIMPLE to operate.
It’s-

✅Auto focus

✅Auto ISO (Via DX code)

✅Auto film advance

✅Auto exposure

And even has automatic film loading just like a point and shoot!

Just slap your favorite 35mm film in, stick the leader tip where instructed, close the camera and it does everything else!

This camera is also VERY small, it’s not too much bigger footprint than allot of point and shoots and is just a bit bigger than say an X100v yet far smaller than any digital full frame canon DSLR by a good amount.
It’s also is VERY light weight and can easily be thrown in a bag which is especially good for travel. It is very plastic and light yet feels good in the hand and substantial enough with a lens that it never felt like a toy or low quality to me which is more than I bc an say for allot of the later rebel film cameras.

This is a camera than can have full manual settings when you want it to, BUT the reason I recommend it is set in its program mode or fully auto mode it can be shot like a point and shoot where you don’t have to think about anything but the shot and it will do EVERYTHING for you! It’s very easy to use and understand and I cannot reiterate how important it is to have a camera that is so no frills when starting out.
It takes all the frustration out of learning to shoot film for the first time and takes allot of the guess work out of things like learning to manually focus, what to set your aperture to, weather or not you set the correct film iso (I cannot tell you how many times I’ve set the wrong iso on my vintage film cameras simply because I loaded in film and just forgot to change it on the dial)

Another awesome thing about this camera is it’s completely comparable with ANY canon full frame EF lenses as well as vintage EF mount lenses as well which gives you a very large and easy to find catalogue of glass to choose from!
Speaking of modern glass, I’ve been using my own DSLR lenses that I already own from my Canon 6D MKii and they have been incredible to actually use with film!!! Evey photo you see here has been taken using my canon 40MM STM pancake Lens which you can pick up for around $80-120 usd which is a steal!!! The body for one of these will cost around $30-50 usd depending on condition, but for that price you’re getting an absolute BEAST in terms of film performance to price ratio imo making this probably the best optical quality of any film camera I’ve ever owned so far and I’m just loving using it!

Yes it’s not as pretty as a vintage canon and doesn’t have what I consider a “fashionable” appeal in terms of esthetics, however if you’re just learning the basics and want a reliable simple piece of equipment that will grow with you as a photographer then the rebel G is just such a great option! Full matrix metering, multi modes, ability to use a modern TTL speed light flash, AND IT EVEN HAS A BUILT IN FLASH! for the size and compactness of the package I’m telling you guys it’s a bargain that’s hard to beat. If you find a rebel G for cheap definitely with picking it up, especially if you (like me) already had a modern cannon DSLR and just want to be able to shoot film with the lens ecosystem you already have, of say you start in this camera and you want to try out a DSLR and go digital then same deal, the lenses can go with you and still be used!

Forgot the AE1, THIS should be your first film camera

For years since the resurgence of film, the Canon AE1 program has been an extremely popular camera for first time/beginner film enthusiast. But what if I told you theres a FAR better, more modern, easier to use option that can be had for MUCH cheaper that (when paired with a modern lens) punches so far above its weight in sheer performance it makes me almost question why I would use anything else?

Let me tell you guys about the criminality overlooked and under appreciated member of the 99s canon SLR family, the Canon EOS REBEL G!

So, please, before you spend $250+ on a manual focus AE1, maybe give the rebel G a try. I do not think you will be disappointed.

I photographed NYC with a poor man’s Miju, actually blown away 😳

I wanted to travel light as possible, I was already carrying 2 other cameras with me (Polaroid SX70, Fuji X100s) so in a last minute decision I swapped out the film camera I was going to use (Canon rebel G) to a much more pocketable compact P&S instead (Kodak Cameo AF 35)

At first, I was actually nervous that I shot myself in the foot by not using my better film SLR but now that I’ve scanned in all my shots.. I am convinced I made a great decision!!! There’s nothing like a camera you have to put zeros thought in to other than pointing, and shooting!! Absolutely adore my poor mans Miju 🤣

(Various film stocks used in these, Portra 400, Ektar 100, kodacolor 100)

Detroit to Boston on a Sony handy handy cam!

Shot an entire travel vlog on an old Sony MINI DV handy cam from 2006! Thought I’d share my intro to the vlog I whipped up :) still a WIP but I love how it’s looking so far! This was shot on tape and recorded direct from the AV port of a Sony handycam DCR-HC36

Sunlight , shadows, and the glass city!

Had allot of fun taking these :) I just love directional light and the way it blankets and casts in to things like buildings and walls
