From my guide: GWTC-5.0 was just released a few days ago. This is the beam splitter that detect all 390 of the world’s history of gravitational wave detections to-date, having originally been installed in ~2013. We got to go on this tour because this beam splitter is finally getting upgraded to an even bigger optic – so I got the last photos ever of this historic optic inside the LIGO vacuum system before it was de-installed.
