Something better then shears for cutting blue filter media

Something better then shears for cutting blue filter media

We have to cut up a shit ton of electrical panel intake filters out of rolls of this 1" roll filter media. Supplier wants x2.5 the price to custom cut the rolls in different widths, meaning you still need to cut 1 length by hand.

Besides hand cutting them all with scissors/shears, what do you use to make the job easier/quicker? Do these olfa rotary cutters work well on this filter material?

Ontario Car Dealership Adding Admin Fee + OMVIC Fee to Advertised Price?

We are looking at a used 2025 Hyundai from a Hyundai dealership in Mississauga, it's advertised on Autotrader for $28,000 but when we contacted them and they sent us a quote, it has an additional admin fee of $599 and a OMVIC fee of $22, giving us a "Rexdale Hyundai Price" of $28,621.

I thought it was illegal to add on fees on top of the advertised price except for government licensing and taxes?

P30I nasal pillows + taping to X30i?

I've been using the P30i with decent success, but because I'm a mouth breather (deviated septum) I have to mouth tape. I'm getting hired of buying (and wearing) the tape.

I like the nasal pillow design, so I'm wondering if the X30i would be a good replacement. My very first mask was a full face nasal cushion and it leaked badly which is why I went to a pillows style.

Just wondering who was in the same boat and successfully transitioned to a full face nasal pillow mask, if you could share your experience?

Arcade racing game for my boys - hot wheels unleashed 2 legendary the answer?

My boys (9, 5) love playing Cars 3: driven to win. I'm looking for another game for them to try. They have messed around with rocket League but the mechanics are out of their league (pun intended).

hot wheels unleashed 2 legendary (2023) is on sale currently for $17.99cad. Should I go with that one, or is there a better option with a higher replay value and better split screen mode for them?

Sonic racing comes up a lot, but the newer one (crossworlds) is still closer to $50. The old one (team sonic racing, 2019) can be had for $11.99cad.

Thoughts on Central Grease Systems

We have some CI types that have a hard-on for central lubrication systems, specifically grease systems for bearings.

Just wondering what your thoughts and experiences are with them.

IMO they sometimes have their place. Hard to reach or dangerous areas, applications that require frequent lubrication, greasing that takes a long time to complete caused by a number of factors, turning a downtime task into a runtime.

I think they come with risks. I think they come with a "set it and forget" mentality. They remove 1 maintenance task but then add another with needing to maintain a new system. Hidden failures, you don't have that tactile feel of greasing a bearing where you can feel when a seal is blown or when it's stopped taking grease. Blocked lines. High initial cost.

If they don't hit at least a couple of my points, I think they are useless or very least are a waste of resources.

What are your thoughts?

Where in Ontario can you walk in and buy an RC Boat?

We know nothing about RC boats. Only from googling do I know you want a brushless motor and self righting. I'm looking for something a little better then a $40 model from CT.

My question is there a hobby store somewhere you can walk into and get some help buying one, who might have a good selection? I want to keep it around $200 max. Preferably in the southern Ontario area.

Sufix 832 Fire Tiger 10lb for Wacky Rig

I've never used braid before. Everything I've read online recommends to use 832 10lb hi-viz with a leader but holy crap yellow/green 832 is expensive! ($35cad/150yds).

Now I haven't really found anyone on reddit talking about it but they also have "Fire Tiger" colour, still 832 10lb for $10 less ($25).

Any comments on this colour and line? Is this still considered hi-viz? I did look up power pro v2 and it's the same (if not more) then the yellow 832.

I'm fishing fresh water only, mainly for bass on a spinning reel.

Help with an LCBO Scotch as a gift

Looking to buy a friend a thank you gift for something they did for my kids. As per his spouse they suggested scotch (but not Irish whiskey?), but I know nothing about it.

I want to get him something half decent but not bottom of the barrel discount brand.

Can I get something like that for around $80?

Meggering Motor for Preventive Maintenance

Question for the electrical folks. Does anyone's facilities have the activity of meggering of motors strictly as a predictive maintenance task? I'm curious if this is a value added activity that will show a measured decline in the insulation where you would actually change out a motor that is still in service.

Just curious if anyone actually has this in place and actually changes out running motors based on megger tests.

Experience with Air Bleeders/Vents - TACO vs Other

We have a closed loop water cooling system for our product equipment that runs between 15*C-45*C, at a pressure between 1.3-2.5bar.

Some of our equipment does have these TACO units installed, but they aren't the greatest. We have had issues with even the smallest pieces of debris preventing the valve from closing again. https://www.tacocomfort.com/product/automatic-air-vents/

I don't know the difference, but in the HVAC sub-reddits I keep reading about SpiroTop bleeders, that they use a different method for getting the air out. I know the need to be installed at the highest point. https://www.spirotech.com/products/spirotop/

There is also SiroVENT as well, still working out what the difference is. https://www.spirotech.com/products/spirovent/

Would a Pressure Differential Gauge Help in This Case? (For Monitoring Air Filter Quality)

We have a vacuum dry powder ingredient system. At the beginning of the system, there is a pipe with a filter housing on it. The inlet or "clean" side of the filter is just bolted to the end of the pipe, fully visible and the vacuum pump is at the end of the line.

Would installing a pressure differential gauge at this location help monitor filter quality? The "clean" or inlet port of the gauge would basically just be open to atmosphere in the room, and the 2nd port would be post filter, in the vacuum pipe.

Obviously there is going to be a pressure differential as the pipe is going to be under vacuum but will it give useable readings as the filter plugs up? I would assume the vacuum level should increase?

Pixel 8 Pro No Longer has Wifi

Noticed today that the wifi no longer works.

If I go to Settings -- Network and Internet -- Internet , the "Use Wi-Fi" is toggled off. If I toggle it on, and come back to this page it will be toggled off again.

If I swipe down from the top, and I click on "Internet", the wifi toggle is enabled but it doesn't show any networks.

-System updates are complete.

-about 9gbs free on the phone.

-Google Play System update is still Nov1'25. It will download the new April1'26 app, it will show installed but the phone will reset after 30sec and it will roll back to Nov'25.

-Adaptive connectivity is off

-tried resetting Bluetooth and Wi-Fi under reset options

Any ideas?

Yes I can call around Monday and ask, but just wanted to know before I swap tires on my vehicles tomorrow or not.

Scenario: I have to sets of mounted tires, winter and summer. The winters are on the vehicle. the summers are worn out and need to be replaced. Instead of taking the winters off, putting on worn out summers just to have to get a shop to take them off the car again, does it make more sense to drop off the mounted summers with the 3rd set of replacement summer rubber, then take them home to be swapped.

If you bring a set of wheels that are OFF a vehicle and ask a shop to replace the tires on them, is the install price the same or cheaper then if you drive in and they have to pull and reinstall from the vehicle?

Family member is buying their first house. It was built in the 1990s and on the paperwork about the house it states that both the inside and outside of the basement was waterproofed in 2014. It's a finished basement.

They are going to get a home inspection.

Nobody water proofs a basement, on both sides apparently, as a preventative measure. I'm assuming there was a massive problem. Is doing both sides even a thing? If you were going to spend the crazy money to do the exterior walls, are you going to do the interior as well?

Would this be alarm bells for anyone? I'm assuming that if there are no signs of water in the basement after 10 years then it should be good to go, no?
