What could aphmau’s main series be inspired by?

Im interested to know the types of inspiration jess used for MCD / MS / MT (possibly others in the same universe). I just realised the term lycaon is likely based on mythology, I’m wondering if any other tropes/characters/etc are inspired from mythology or history! Or if they are her own creation 😊

Edit: more history related, as I understand Jess also took a lot of inspiration from anime, final fantasy and more!

Suggestions for re-approaching an old story?

Though out my teens I created this massive concept of a story and world with characters, I realised it was way too big to be able to convey to others. I shortened it down and to an extent it was pretty good but i literally have no idea how you write passing time, and the ending never felt right.

I’m an adult now and the concept is still stuck in my head but it’s so messy. Any tips on how I could better piece together a story and effectively reflect to improve it?

Tips for winding down when overwhelmed without doomscrolling?

Edit: not sure if I should change the flair, but this post does mention meditation but does not surround it :) if you think I should change it than I will.

I have recently been focusing on cutting screen/social media time down, which has been working well!

One issue Im struggle with is times when I’m really stressed / overwhelmed, typically from a long shift at work and the transition to sleep or the rest of my day. I get home and just waste time scrolling on my phone, which doesn’t seem to help me relax anyway lol. To add, my adhd meds have likely warn off by this time and thus making it more difficult.

I do have non screen activity’s such as drawing, a word search book, reading or listening to a podcast. However, I do not mind watching a long video or digital art.

I was wondering if anyone else struggles with this and if there’s anything you do that helps with redirecting myself or with the transition?

I’m assuming it happens because scrolling offers dopamine and is easier than the other stuff :( but i just get stuck. I get home and sit down on my bed, next thing I know it’s an hour later and I haven’t showered, haven’t taken my meds and still overwhelmed 🥲 - I do know standing does seem to help!

Open (ish) world games with story bug not bound by it?

Edit: I am not sure why I said bug in the title and I can’t edit it… sorry

Im not a big gamer 😅 I don’t own a PC either (a laptop but ehh), I have a iPhone, switch lite and a Xbox (that I don’t really use…).

I’ve played minecraft my whole life, I love it… but I get bored of the little to none story/progression (but I mean it’s a sandbox game) - at the same time I love that part about it. I can just abandon beating the ender dragon for a month to do whatever and go right back to that later when I feel like it!

The only other game I’ve consistently played was stardew valley! Similar structure but with a more of a story, but I get kinda bored having to pet every animal and the days (I’m not finished the game and honey kinda confused on how to progress as well).

I play security breach (late ik) on my switch recently and I loved it - well as much as you can love that game hah. I mean besides being a massive fnaf fan, I just loved the concept of the games structure! Freedom to do whatever, with still a task bar of things to do. In saying that, the game was pretty short… I’m also really bad at games :( so please nothing too hard.

I remember watching people play minecraft as a kid with this pc mod where you would open this task tab that would branch into other things you could do? I’ve also played genshin, played it for a year or so a while ago but besides from the gambling, I got to a point of being overwhelmed with all the different quests (as they continued to add and add new things - awesome but I’d load in and there would be 5 new quests I could start and I had no idea which ones I was half way threw 😵‍💫).

I’ve played many other games but yk, sorry if I make no sense. I have no idea how to describe what I think I’d enjoy. I have been recommended Zelda - just I haven’t gotten it yet due to the cost and hasn’t drawn me in.

Alternatives to scrolling media?

I finally deleted tiktok a few months ago (lol), so now my main scrolling apps are instagram, Pinterest, facebook marketplace and reddit with a little bit of yt but mainly scrolling yt Home Screen not shorts.

I just feel like what else do I do with my life, ofc scrolling is not productive and possibly causing me headaches.

Note: only asking for at home/chill things that won’t cost money or much money!

I am an artist but have had little to no motivation for over 3 years, I’m dyslexic and horrible at finding books I enjoy - though slowly currently reading a book but if I start I have to finish the chapter or I get lost which means I need minimum 1h to spare + requires a bright light… I try to journal but realistically that’s 5-15 minutes, I try to game but I’ve finished the game I was recently playing (also that can get me quite hyped and not good for bedtime). I only have one podcast I seem to enjoy but that means I gotta wait for a new ep yk, I hate naps but I do try to. Cleaning stresses me tf out - I do it but it’s not a relaxing type activity.

I also struggle with the difference of social media vs digital content (black and white thinking).

What do you do at home? What do you spend your days off doing when all chores are done and you have already been out/at the gym?

Also looking for suggestions for bedtime as I know the blue light is bad for you😀 but I feel like having the light on also keeps me awake when I try to read…

Advice for getting back into the gym?

I used to go the gym 3-5 days a week and 2-4 during uni semester. This year I’ve just crashed 😔 at the start of the year I was keeping up mostly or going for walks, than the semester started and I mostly was doing okay considering work and university but the last few months it’s down to 1-2 days :( mainly 1 day a week and not really walking instead. Uni finished over a month ago.

My partner started going to the gym this year but he starts work at 7:30am weekdays, so we started going together at 6am! Which I love because I come home and feel like I did something that day but at the same time is only 7-8 am and have the whole day still! Problem is I sometimes start work at 6am and it’s not set times so changes a lot. I used to go to the gym 8am ish but I don’t really like that time as it’s busy, I feel as though it works into the day a lot and school traffic.

I just feel like I have no energy you know and my anxiety is really high, which I’m sure the gym would help a lot but at the same time that’s why I am feeling so lazy to not go 😅 my partner can keep me accountable but some days he can’t be bothered and others I’m working (he aims to go 5 days). Other issue is making me go to the gym, will it help or just increase my anxiety.

What do you do in a slump? Any advice to get back into the gym / exercising?

Slightly irritated lip piercing?

I have 2 lip piercings (snake bites) that are over 4 years old. My left piercing gets irritated every now and again, any advice?

My typical jewellery in it is a 6mm horse shoe that’s stretched slightly (by my piercer, 2 years after I got it done). I’m going to assume it’s stainless steel or titanium but unclear- they are black but very much wore out.

As stated, every now and again my left piercing hole gets irritated. It looks totally normal on the outside, but it begins to hurt and slightly swell on the inside. To fix it, usually I swap it out to my 8mm straight bars (original bars used to down size) and wait..

I typically just clean them in the shower or taken the jewellery out and clean them with “piercing shop water”, kinda not sure what else I’m meant to do (when they where healing I would use the spray, but my current “piercing shop water” broke and that shit ain’t cheap and it’s new).

Honestly not sure if I’m doing something wrong, it could be the jewellery but it only has ever happened with the left side. The straight bars can get annoying after a while of wearing them and 8mm horse shoe/rings are too big and hit my teeth - 6mm horse shoe/rings are too small (attempted to leave my face the next day of wearing them, over 2 years ago…).

Does this just happen sometimes? Is there a way to reduce this, I want to get new jewellery but I’d have to go back to the original place as I don’t think most places will stretch jewellery and it’s like impossible to find 7mm stuff.

Should I scrap my project car?

Car in question is a 2001 Honda Integer dc5 auto.

A few years back my partner and I adopted her from a friend who had crashed it, fixed some of it up but was getting out of her knowledge and price. The car was sitting dead and unregistered for at least a year though I can’t remember. Car worked totally fine, mostly body damage, engine shock (needed a mount or fix), and battery kept dying coz it was sitting so long.

Bought it home, but needed to be fixed for a blue slip ;( and gave it a good service, engine mount and a few other things. Not sure what order but we did:
- fuel pump
- alternator
- air temperature sensor
- air intake hose
- overall fixing body damage
I believe we were having issues getting the car to start! We did test drive prior to taking it but idk. Car got running and blue slipped!

Than my partner got “new” engine head assembly (can’t remember why but I assume an issue- car was running prior). Did it but probs not great lol, wouldn’t start…

Ended up being the anti theft system, all modules un synced - took us a while to work out but got it done by a locksmith last week GREAT!

Car is now sparking, won’t roll over :(
Diagnosis is timing chain isn’t synced but the car isn’t throwing a code. My partner is thinking, if this doesn’t fix it than he wants to call quits. The last year hes kinda given up and avoids it :(

What would you do? Anyone who owns or works on older Hondas, is it worth it or do you think we will continue to get issues after issues (besides general maintenance and all)?

Note: I am not a mechanic! My partner and his mates are but some are still apprentices and they don’t work directly with Hondas :(

Positive feedback with workouts!

I have been using the free version of Hevy to track workouts, and decided to try bevels workout thing for a little bit.

I love bevel for a handful of things but I decided to go back to Hevy as it has an empty start now and is probably a little further along in development than bevel (as it is a only workout app! No dis to bevel) + friends are on it lol.

HOWEVER, today I used Hevy again and I knew it would upload the general workout (like it does to apple health) BUT when I opened bevel it allowed me to additionally fill out all my weights and workouts as well.

I love it, thank you!! 😊 thought I’d share incase others didn’t know as I only just realised today. The bevel team is amazing and I only discovered this app not long ago but it’s everything I’ve been trying to find in a health app.

Where do you find work-placement for undergraduate psych?

In PSYC3002 we have to do a work-placement and the uni does offer some pre organised ones but i don’t want to risk it… as my friend who did it said ALOT of people missed out and where unorganised!!

What would even be considered? Like technically support work & receptionists are considered work experience but I’m not sure if that would count for placement and/or should I be looking for something else?

Like for nursing, finding work placement is easy. You’re becoming a nurse so you work where nurses work? But in psyc or at least undergraduate i can’t just go work as a psychologist (duh).

So my question is, what type of work are they looking for / that the uni does organise for that class. What did you do for your 140 hour placement?
