If an app was designed to help people quit gambling, what would actually make it useful?

I’m trying to better understand what really helps people when they’re trying to stop gambling, reduce betting, or avoid falling back into old patterns.

From what I’ve seen, two things seem very important:

  1. Making access harder by blocking gambling websites and apps

  2. Helping during the actual urge, before the person makes the decision

Because the dangerous moment is often very short.

The urge hits.

The app/site is easy to open.

The deposit takes seconds.

Then the regret comes after.

So I’m curious:

What do you think an app should do in that exact moment?

Should it force a delay?

Guide the person through breathing?

Show how much money they’re protecting?

Remind them why they wanted to stop?

Ask them to write what triggered the urge?

Connect them with someone?

Use stricter blocking?

I’m doing more research to improve my product and make it more useful in real situations, not just in theory.

Would appreciate honest opinions.

What is the most important feature an app should have to help someone stop gambling?

I’m doing more research around tools that can help people stop gambling, gamble less, or avoid relapse.

For me, two things feel necessary:

  1. A blocking system for gambling websites and apps

  2. A way to handle the urge in the moment before someone acts on it

Because blocking helps, but the urge itself still needs somewhere to go.

I’m curious what others think.

When someone feels the urge to gamble, what do you think is the most effective thing an app could do in that moment?

Breathing?

Grounding?

Delay timer?

Showing money saved?

Reminding them of their “why”?

Calling someone?

Locking access completely?

Something else?

I’m trying to improve my product and understand what would actually help people, not just what sounds good in theory.

Would appreciate honest thoughts.

[App]I built an app to help people control gambling urges and block betting apps

Hey everyone,

I built an app called Still, available on Android.

It’s for people who want to stop gambling, gamble less, or block betting/gambling apps before it becomes a bigger problem.

Features include urge control tools, gambling app/site blockers, trigger tracking, progress tracking, money protected over time, a 30-day recovery program, and a private support circle.

Download / more info:

STILL APP

Would love honest feedback.

I built an app for people who want to stop gambling before they hit rock bottom

So I built an app called Still.

It’s for people who want more distance between themselves and gambling.

Not only people who have already hit rock bottom.

Also people who are starting to notice they’re betting more than they want.

People who keep reinstalling betting apps.

People who want to block gambling sites before payday.

People who are worried sports betting, prediction markets, online slots, loot boxes, card packs, and “quick money” apps are becoming too normal.

The core idea is simple:

You don’t have to act.

You just have to wait.

Because a lot of gambling damage happens in a very small window.

An urge hits.

The app is already on your phone.

The deposit takes seconds.

And then the regret lasts way longer.

So Still tries to create friction in that exact moment.

There’s a guided urge tool with breathing, grounding, and “play the tape forward.”

There are gambling site/app blockers.

There’s trigger tracking, progress tracking, money protected, a 30-day recovery program, and a private anonymous circle.

I wanted to build something that wasn’t only a brute-force blocker.

Blocking helps, but the urge still needs somewhere to go.

Still is not a cure or a replacement for professional help. It’s just a calm support tool for people who want to pause, gamble less, stop completely, or block access before things get worse.

I’m a solo indie dev and this took way longer than I expected. The sensitive nature of the app also makes promotion difficult because I don’t want it to feel exploitative or spammy.

I attached a walkthrough video.

Would genuinely appreciate feedback on the product, positioning, onboarding, paywall, or anything that feels missing.

Available on iOS and Android. Free download, with a 3-day free trial and subscription after that.

I built an app to make gambling harder before addiction takes over

Hey everyone,

I’m a solo indie developer, and I’ve been building an app called Still.

It’s a calm, private app for people trying to recover from gambling or reduce the damage it’s causing in their life.

The idea behind Still is simple:

You don’t have to act.
You just have to wait.

Most urges peak and pass if you can get through those first few minutes. So I wanted to build something that helps in that exact moment — not just after the damage is done.

In the walkthrough video, I’m showing how the app works, including:

  • a 3-minute urge tool with breathing, grounding, and “play the tape forward”
  • blockers for gambling sites and apps
  • progress tracking for days unbet, urges resisted, and money protected
  • trigger logging to spot patterns like stress, boredom, payday, or late nights
  • a 30-day recovery program with short daily lessons
  • a private anonymous circle for support

I know this is a sensitive topic, so I want to be clear: Still is not a cure, and it’s not a replacement for professional help. It’s meant to be a supportive tool that adds friction, structure, and a pause between the urge and the action.

I built this because gambling has become way too accessible. It’s not just casinos anymore. It’s sports betting, online slots, crypto-style gambling, loot boxes, card packs, and apps that sit right next to your banking app.

If you’re in recovery, have struggled with gambling, or know someone who has, I’d genuinely appreciate honest feedback on the app, the video, or anything that feels missing.

The app is available on iOS and Android and free to start.

I don't think we have enough tools that prevent gambling before addiction. So I built one.

For years, I thought gambling addiction started the moment someone placed a bet.

The more I learned, the more I realized I was wrong.

It starts much earlier.

It starts with the constant ads.

The "free bets."

The sports betting promotions everywhere.

The casino notifications.

The moment you open your phone and gambling is only a few taps away.

Most recovery apps focus on helping after someone has become addicted.

I wanted to build something that also helps before someone reaches that point.

So I built Still.

The idea wasn't to lecture people or tell them they have a problem.

Instead, I wanted to make it harder to gamble and easier to stay away from it.

Still helps you:

• Block gambling websites and betting apps.

• Get through urges with guided exercises.

• Track your streak and money saved.

• Understand your triggers through journaling.

• Follow a structured recovery plan.

• Talk anonymously with people going through the same thing.

Building it taught me something I didn't expect:

Recovery isn't usually one big decision.

It's hundreds of small decisions made every day.

Sometimes the difference between gambling and not gambling is simply putting enough friction between you and that first click.

That's what I've been trying to build.

After months of development (and a surprisingly long App Store review process 😅), Still is finally live.

I'd genuinely love feedback—not just on the app itself, but on the idea.

I built an app to help people step back from gambling

Hey everyone — I’m a solo dev.

I built Still, an app for people trying to stop or reduce gambling. It includes urge tools, progress tracking, blockers, a 30-day program, and an anonymous community.

I focused a lot on making it calm, private, and non-judgmental, because gambling is something many people struggle with alone.

The app is live now: https://stillrecoveryapp.com/

I’m still improving it and would honestly appreciate feedback — what feels useful, what feels missing, and what would make you trust an app like this more.

App Store Connect says App Privacy is missing, but it's already completed. Completely stuck.

I'm trying to submit my app Still for App Review and I've run into a very strange issue.

When I click Add for Review, App Store Connect shows:

>

The problem is:

  • I'm the Account Holder/Admin
  • App Privacy is fully completed
  • Product Page Preview is visible
  • Privacy Policy URL is set
  • Subscriptions are Ready to Submit
  • No Missing Metadata banners anywhere
  • No other validation errors on the app version page
  • The Publish button in App Privacy is greyed out (appears there are no unpublished changes)

I've spent hours comparing this app with another app I've already successfully published on the App Store using the same Apple Developer account.

I also checked the project itself:

  • No App Tracking Transparency
  • No NSUserTrackingUsageDescription
  • No IDFA usage
  • No AdMob, Facebook SDK, AppsFlyer, Adjust, etc.
  • No Firebase Analytics
  • No obvious privacy-related warnings during upload

One interesting thing:

The browser console shows:

/iris/v1/reviewSubmissionItems
HTTP 409 Conflict

every time I try to add the app for review.

I've already opened a support ticket with Apple Developer Support, but it's been 3 days without a response.

Has anyone seen this before?

Was it:

  • A hidden metadata issue?
  • A broken App Privacy state?
  • A stuck review submission object?
  • An App Store Connect bug?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated because I'm completely out of things to try at this point.

Help Me Test a New App Designed to Combat Gambling Addiction

After months of work, I've finally launched the first Android closed testing version of my gambling recovery app.

I'm currently looking for 12 Android testers who would be willing to use the app for 14 days and provide honest feedback to help improve the user experience before the public launch.

The reason I built this app is simple: gambling has become incredibly widespread. I see betting ads everywhere, hear people talking about gambling more often than ever, and have seen people close to me struggle with it. It felt like a problem worth tackling, so I decided to build something that could help.

The app is still in closed testing on Android, and I'm also close to finishing the iOS version.

If you'd like to help test the app, please send me a DM with the Google email address you'll use on your Android device. Once Google Play approves the testing release, I'll send you the invitation link.

Your feedback will directly influence the final product and help create a better experience for people trying to quit gambling.

Thank you to anyone willing to help.

Almost there ...

One more Premium user and I’ll reach $100 in revenue! Super happy with the progress, especially after launching the new version of dailieshabit.com 🎉

After a long grind, I’m finally close to my first $100 in revenue with DailiesHabit 🎉

It took way longer than I expected, lots of redesigns, doubt, and small improvements every day, but seeing real people actually use and enjoy the app makes it all worth it.

The new version boosted engagement a lot, and honestly I’m just super grateful right now. Small milestone, but a huge motivation boost for me to keep building 🚀
