Is craftsman mower hate warranted?

My whole childhood and adult life I have owned craftsman push mowers. All have lasted a decade or more with heavy use and are absolute machines with basic maintenance done. So why does it seem they are not recommended compared to other brands? I have like this emotional attachment to them and now that I am a homeowner am thinking of upgrading from my 9 yr old craftsman push to a craftsman lawn tractor. But people are saying hell no buy a Deere or a cub. I’m gonna buy what I want regardless because I love this brand lol but almost nobody recommends craftsman mowers on this sub or through word of mouth and I don’t get it.

Have to cut .5 acres, mostly flat. Recommend one of these lawn tractors

Looking for a 42 or 46” lawn tractor to save time instead of pushing my .5 acre property. Takes me around 2.5 hrs after pushing and weed eating. Property is mostly flat, small inclines, with just trees and mulched beds as obstacles. Looking at Troy bilt bronco, cub xt1, craftsman T2400/T2200 or husqvarna TS120. Talk me into one over the others.

.4 acre property, looking for a lawn tractor

I have a .4 acre property that is mainly flat with some trees and garden beds that I have been pushing mowing for 2 seasons now. It’s a little 18” craftsman mower so want to find a small riding mower just to save time cutting. I just don’t like zero turns that much so that’s out of the equation so don’t recommend those. Looking at the xt1 cub tractor, Troy bilt pony and the Deere S120. Would like to stay under 3k which I believe all these are. Any advice on which would be best or another tractor option? Would only need a 42 or 46” cut width.

I’m between the Lenovo yoga or the asus zenbook, which should I choose? I mostly just use internet browser and light applications, nothing crazy like gaming or anything.

I am on day 6 of having terrible flu like symptoms of a stomach flu. I have barely eaten anything, fever coming and going constantly, headache pounding day & night and nausea randomly throughout the day. I am getting super frustrated because I am doing everything I should be and it’s still coming back with vengeance. I have started eating a little bit like bananas, cucumbers, crackers, grapes, but having trouble stomaching protein. So, what else should I be doing to help? I am such a bump on the log and not very attentive to my pregnant wife right now. This sucks!

Day 4 of gastro flu - advice on recovery

I am a 33M who has been off work sick since Monday and Tuesday this week with gastro flu. On Sunday morning I started to develop a bad headache, fever, and vomiting. I have been taking excedrin or Advil around the clock to calm my symptoms and staying very hydrated. This morning around 3am my fever broke and all my symptoms went besides a slight fever. So i assume this is the body doing its last push to get it out. So my question is if it goes up to 100 101 should i leave it be or try to cool down with cold compresses. Other side is sometimes ill get chills so ill put a hoodie on until i stop the little shakes. Need some advice on this, thanks!

Day 3 of recurring flu like symptoms

I am a 33M who has been off work sick Monday and Tuesday this week with flu like symptoms. On Sunday morning I started to develop a bad headache, fever, swollen glands and vomiting. I have been taking excedrin or Advil around the clock, and while the fever comes and goes, the headache is still terrible. Vomiting has stopped in last 24 hrs. I do have a little bit of an appetite but I haven’t eaten much and drinking a lot of Gatorade and water. So, does this sound like the flu or could it be covid? I thought the flu was seasonal but maybe I’m wrong. I have not slept a lick in almost 3 days and that sucks but not super tired because ive been lying around mostly. Im out of sick days as they grant us 2 a yr so if i have to miss tokorrow ill have to take PTO.

Tried to do a e-visit with my hospital system but they never joined the zoom meeting i sat in for 25 mins with nobody showing up. Need advice on what i can do for this headache as this is kicking my butt, pain started at a 8 and is like a 6 now. All the pain is on left side of forehead/temple and also hurting my left eye a bit.

Being forced to 3rd shift

I need some advice for a big lifestyle change in my job about to occur. My boss just informed me he is moving me from 1st shift to 3rd shift in 3 weeks. For context, I am a 33 yo engineer at a large automotive plant. Support for my discipline is lacking on the off shifts so I am being moved because of that. I do understand that working in a 3 shift plant this is always a possibility but our crews on off shifts are light for a reason. So I wanted to ask is it career suicide to ask if I can just stay on 1st? I don’t have much seniority as I have been here for a yr, so I don’t have that going for me. My wife currently works 7a-5p M-Th as a nurse and I like being home with her in the evenings. I can still do that but my new shift would be 10p-6A. I am just not a night owl at all and love being an early bird with my 6A-3p shift. What could I do here? There is only one other guy in my position and he is 64 yrs old, approaching retirement who is also on 1st shift. There was another engineer in our discipline but he quit 6 months ago (i would think I have some leverage because of my age/experience and counterpart at retirement age). I also don’t want to move jobs since we recently bought a house and have our first kid on the way so financial stability is important right now and the pay is good. I would get the 10% premium but I’m not sure it’s worth it for how disruptive this may be to my life. I know I’m probably complaining a bit but I’m extremely nervous for this change, need any advice I can get. I really don’t have any family members or friends on night shift to ask so this is all new to me.

Stuck in the same old same old. Work, house stuff, eat, bed. Need advice on how to break the mold.

Feel like I’m in such a rut and not able to do stuff that brings more satisfaction to my life. I get I’m a man and it’s my job to suffer and do shit to provide but need some stuff on the side to reset myself every so often. 5-6 days a week I just wake up at 430, go to work, come home, eat, do house stuff, take care of family, try to workout, then go to bed. I’ve been thinking of buying a bike and just going on night rides just to decompress but also looking for other ideas. I play video games occasionally but those are starting to not interest me as much. I prefer being outdoors mostly but limited in what I could do. Anyone have any good ideas that they use to destress from the daily grind? Most of my friends have families so they can’t just drop it to go shoot hoops or something. Idk my life just feels so businessy like everything I do is a check mark off a list that it’s done. Need to be a little more care free and enjoy life a little more as we all end up 6ft under. And to preface, I enjoy taking care of my wife and family so don’t want to be viewed in the sense that I do not.

For context, I’m 33, married, work 6A-4p, homeowner, and have 1st kid on the way. The stress of providing financially and physically is taking a bit of a toll and need ideas to recharge batteries besides sleeping.

What’s the best 30-35” walk behind mower?

I have a small non-self propelled craftsman mower that I push .4 acres. It takes an awhile to complete but I still want to push mow it but looking at a bigger mower. Cub cadet has a 33” and echo and toro have a 30” walk behind. Any of these good? Or if you have any other options, it would be appreciated. Only looking at gas options, I like breathing what I’m burning.

Nervous about switch to night shift for first time in my career

I was just told by my boss last week that in a month I’ll be switched over to nights. I’m a 33yo engineer at a large automotive plant that operates 3 shifts 6 days a week (although I won’t have to work Saturdays). I’ve always been on 1st shift which is 6A-3p and I love getting off and enjoying all that daylight still. But support is lacking on night shift so i am being transferred because I’m low on seniority list. I need helpful advice on the transition. My plan formulated in my head is to go to gym right after work (shift is 10p-6A) and then go home and eat and wind down to be in bed by 9 or 10 and wake up around 4ish when wife gets home. Also will eat healthy and ditch caffeine completely (hopefully). But part of what makes me so nervous is the weekend. I want to somehow transition back to being awake during daylight hrs with my spouse so I was thinking of altering my sleep on Fridays so I’m good by Saturday. But I heard this might burn people out. I’m not sure. either way very nervous about this and how disruptive it could be lol. Good thing is my counterpart at work on 1st shift is 64 with some health issues and he sounds like he is planning retirement soon. So fingers crossed on that!

I have some profound respect for you 3rd shifters, you guys are dedicated!

Keep savings or pay off car?

Wife and I are early 30s and make 175k combined income. We have 290k on mortgage and 9k left on car loan at 3.9%. We currently have 33k in savings. Should we pay off this car loan or keep the savings intact?

When to replace transmission fluid for mostly city driving?

My 23 OR is at 35k miles and was thinking about doing transmission service this fall. I got quoted 610 out the door from my local mechanic for drain and fill and filter change. Is this a decent price and around 40k interval to change at? My work commute is city driving M-F and I do a little off roading in the summer months.

I am located in OH

About to shift to night shift in 3 weeks, what sleep schedule should I adopt?

I’m about to be transferred from 1st to 3rd shift for support in the automotive plant I work at in a few weeks here. I’m definitely a little nervous because I’ve only had first shift jobs my entire life, not sure of duration so we shall see. It will be a 10p-630a shift. My wife works 7a-5p 4 days a week so I was thinking of going to gym after work every day and either then running any errands and go to bed at say 10 or 11. Or is it best to get home and be in bed by like 8 or 9? I’m not really a night owl and love my 6A-3p shift right now so I need to plan this out. I know it’s probably not wise but come the weekend I would like to be awake during the days for time with wife, so willingly to tough it out. Any advice on best sleep schedule would be appreciated. My current sleep schedule is like 1030-430 and I feel good after 6 hrs of sleep.

My Carry distance of irons is weak, how to improve?

I used to golf all the time but once Covid happened I stopped and just in the past yr I’ve started back up again. So have been going weekly to the range by my house that has a ball tracker system. My 5 iron has only been carrying like 125-130 yards because I seem to just hit it too high with the launch angle. Also my ball speed is only in the 90s. What tips can I make to improve this? I feel like I’m making decent contact but maybe I’m getting too far under it. I also am hitting off a turf matt so there’s that.

But when it comes to my hybrids and woods I seem to flush those pretty well and get good distance. It’s mainly my irons that I’m losing distance. I just want to be able to land a 160yd par 3 on the green with a 5 iron lol

Wife [32F] spends a lot of money and it’s bothering me [33M], how can I convey it’s an issue?

My wife loves the finer things in life lol and has expensive taste and she is not afraid to spend. She grew up as an only child and her parents had money so her relationship with it is she thinks it’s plentiful. We have budgeted where we send 75% of our paychecks to our joint checking to pay bills, and rest to high yield savings and retirement for savings. The thing is, she thinks it’s all just free game to spend. She will get a bit defensive about it and I don’t understand why because it’s hers and I’s financial future.

For context, she works 3 days per week as a nurse making around 55k per yr part time now as she is pregnant with our first kid. She was on 4 shifts of 10 but went down to 3 and I agreed that was fine. She previously made 70 something. I make 100k as an engineer working full time. We contribute about 7.5k into our checking to pay bills and usually ends up around 8k of spending per month which to me seems excessive. We do have a 2.5k mortgage and one car payment but it still shouldn’t reach this high. She loves to hang out with her mom on her off days and they always go out to lunch and go shopping so it’s almost every time they hang out it’s almost 100 bucks of spending, 30 bucks for lunch; maybe 50 at store, for example. Idc if she wants to enjoy her life and she deserves that, but I told her why doesn’t she just go over her house or have her mom come to ours and make food, it doesn’t always have to be eating out. Even though we are decent earners, to me, it doesn’t matter if our discretionary spending is so high. She will route 15% of her paycheck to her personal checking that she uses and sometimes she will say why does it matter it’s in my acct but to me it’s all money being spent no matter where it comes from. But I’m also a little ticked at her mom because she knows we have a lot of bills and now a kid on the way so saving is important. If we are spending our take home currently how can it be sustained once we have a kid and expenses only go up. I love my wife and don’t want to take the joy of it away from her but she doesn’t seem to care what I think and it’s upsetting. Sometimes I feel like her mom and I are against me and I’m fighting a battle I can’t win.

Switching to night shift in a month

I am an engineer at a large auto manufacturer that has been here 6 months on first shift. I have a counterpart who trained me the first 4 months and I worked alongside him before he went on medical leave for 3 months. When he returns in mid July I will transition to cover the same position on 3rd. I’ve only worked 3rd for a 2 week period when I was 21 lol but now I’m 33. Any advice on sleep schedule? Is it best to go home and go to sleep right away or stay up a bit after shift before going to bed? I was thinking of going to gym right after work since it will be quiet at 7am then heading home.

I also want to be awake during normal hrs on weekend if possible so maybe a mid day nap on Saturday would help. I’ll be on a 10p-630am shift. My wife works 7a-430p so I’ll still get time with her after work before I head in which I guess is nice but I’m nervous about the lifestyle shift. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My counterpart is in his mid 60s and will retire soon so hopefully when that time comes I can transition back to first

How to effectively save better while having a kid, mortgage, car loan, etc.

My wife and I are in our early 30s, recently had our first kid and have been talking more and more about finances. We track our spending through our PNC app and it just seems like we are spending as much as we contribute to our joint checking; and we don’t have any extraneous spending going on besides some subscriptions we could cut out. I make 100k as an engineer and she makes 75k as a nurse. We deposit 7.5k into our joint checking a month and rest goes into our retirement accts. And we end up spending 7k sometimes 8k.

We have a 2.5k mortgage, one car payment of 630, life insurance 60, car insurance 155, gas, groceries, electric, phone bill, etc. and can’t seem to stop bleeding money. Maybe we over bought on house but it seems like a modest mortgage even in our affordable major city suburb. So, what I am getting to is what is the most effective way to budget or significant areas to look to cut out? I am breaking down our discretionary spending monthly and what we could limit and also thinking of selling my truck for something without having a car payment. We have 9k left on that loan and my wife has a ‘20 rav4 that has been paid off for over a yr now but still not seeing the savings benefit from that which is disappointing.

Don’t like my truck and want to trade in for different one

I have a 23 Tacoma off road. I generally just don’t like it that much, seems underpowered, cabin is cramped, bad on gas, and other reasons. I am looking at other midsize but am also open to full size as well. I paid 45k OTD for it in ‘23 and the truck seems to hold decent resale as I am anticipating getting low 30s currently for it, private sale closer to 35k. I am looking at mainly GM trucks because ironically I started a new job at General Motors so I get the employee discount. I am not making this trade because I want to drink the company kool aid but I really haven’t liked the Tacoma since I got it. I have 14 months left on my loan with 9k left. So would the best option be to try to trade in now for a new Silverado or Colorado or wait another yr when my loan will be paid off and do it then. I am not sure what my trade in value would be then but I don’t put many miles on my truck as my work commute is short. I’m only at 33k miles as of now. I was thinking if the value wouldn’t drop that much then waiting until loan balance is off, might be best financial play. Also, up to date on all maintenance services and be doing power steering fluid exchange and transmissions drain and fill. So upon trade in, the only item is maybe tires in 10-20k miles. Any advice is appreciated!
