Neat pickup from Shooters today
I know the existence of Shooters is devisive to say the least so I'll leave that alone. Today I got a '41 all 5 numbers matching Walther P38. I'm beyond excited since it's as original as it comes and still shootable
Oldie but Goodie - '41 P38
Picked this up today from my LGS, all 5 S/Ns match 1941 production with a holster and a spare repro mag to shoot.
Type specific maneuver profiles
I've been primarily teaching instrument and students transitioning to the Bo/Baron. This week I have a CPL student starting who's training in his 182H.
I went out and practiced the maneuvers myself, refreshed all of the configurations etc.... As I was going through and doing this I thought it would be helpful both for the applicant and me to have a set of maneuver profiles tailored to the speeds, configurations and power settings in his plane since obviously there's no gear check but C/S prop for example.
I published this as the 61Insights Maneuver Checklist Creator It's free to use and can generate the ACS maneauver profile using your numbers:
- EFB format for Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight
- Card deck that the applicant can fill in for chair flying/reference in the plane
- Single page view with the profile and success criteria
This is all free and I'd love feedback on what works/doesn't and how to make it more broadly applicable
TSA at BOS terminal E only giving pre with paper boarding pass?
I was traveling through Terminal E in Boston today with pre on my boarding pass via the Delta app. I got to the TSO and was asked if I had a paper board pass, no signs earlier in the line etc....
He said because I didn't have a paper board pass he couldn't give me limited Precheck and I had to go through the normal process. This was after going through the Precheck line. No signs no indication from the screeners.
The only place in recent memory I needed a paper boarding pass was in BLR because they have to stamp it at every checkpoint.
Is this a new process?
Avoid Gary's Boot and Shoe Repair in Nashua
I took my AE Chilli Red Strandmoks to Gary's Boot and Shoe Repair in Nashua. I asked for a polish keeping the burnishing. What I got back was just plain brown shoes and a bunch of attitude that I wouldn't have liked it if he did it any other way
Now they're trash
What do you mean NO. When did we stop sharing snacks…
S&W PPK/S Beavertail
What do you guys do about the beavertail on the S&W PPK/S digging into your thumb? Am I just being a wimp or are there some simple mods like polishing the edges that helps?
Precheck at MKE
I was traveling home today departing MKE and when checked in they gave me the expedited card which fine no dedicated Precheck line.
I get to where the line splits and am told that they only do expedited in one of the 2 lines, the expedited line is actually a lot longer. I'm told in a snippy tone that if I want the short line I have to take everything out and skip the expedited.
Then I get up to the screener in the expedited line and am told that because I have an iPad and a laptop I have to take one out.
This all seems way out of step with any other airport I've had the expedited experience at including EWR. They all run it in both lines and you stay with your bags until they go through the machine.
I spoke to the sup afterwards and his excuse was just the age of the machinery and staffing levels. Nothing definitive like we're doing it to spec just squishy "sorry man we're the only game in town"
The extra wait for expedited then having to unpack anyway because I had 2 devices just defeats the purpose. Is this something I should be formally complaining about ? Was this normal even though it seems airport specific because TSA practices and procedures are randomized and unpublished for security so it's not possible to tell if they were out of line?
Rolling rule 1?
Completely random coming back from Starbucks this morning. Apologies for not including a watch pic
What does checking in in the app do?
I've done it a bunch of times, we still play 20 questions at the desk as if I didn't check in
- What bonus do you want?
- Do you want a late checkout?
- Swipe your CC
All of this is covered in the app checkin so what does the app check in do?
VIN sticker, was it tampered with?
I saw this in an FB add, before I reach out does it look like this sticker was tampered with or is that normal wear and tear? Would it have been handled doing body work? It should be inside the door jamb so I would think it would have to be one hell of an accident to have body work there
Apparently being 30 seconds late for walkies is a serious offense in this household. The judgment in this room is unreal.
Anyone heard of Stroll Bow?
I saw a FB ad yesterday for Stroll Bow published by N2/Stroll Communications
They advertise connecting to local communities, has anyone had experience advertising with them? Does anyone have a copy of the magazine I'm curious what the content is before spending time going through a sales pitch
E92 M3 air filter housing
I have a pre-9/2009 E92 M3 which didn't have the air filter housing swapped yet. Options are to upgrade it to or run one of the after market filters.
Given that oiled filters have a bad rep for letting more dirt and debris through while the upgraded airbox is $900 what's the collective doing?
Colleges and Universities are predatory .... Convince me that I'm wrong
Colleges and Universities in the US collect hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition, based on incomplete, misleading and unattributed information about career prospects, average pay, etc....
Example:
UMass provides a summary from the Dept or Resource Economics showing some top companies and claims $60k/yr starting salaries with no attribution of the study or data
This is the one of the only investments that an investor who doesn't qualify as a sophisticated investor can make without a meaningful prospectus or disclaimers about rate of return
I would like to start a movement towards required investment level disclosures for colleges and universities on a per-degree basis for students to properly evaluate performance and investment opportunities. Is there anything like this already going on?
Sport vs EX Gen3
Aside from the additional driver aids, sunroof which is a mixed blessing and black vs 2 tone wheels is there anything noticeable about the step up from Sport to the EX? I know I don't want an EX-L because it's only available in the CVT and with leather
I expect the Sport to be around longer because the driver aids are all going to be a bunch of electronics that will break and require Mx or be deactivated
Where to shop for a unicorn fit
I've had a 2007 Fit I think like #517 imported into the US and loved it, family grew and now back looking for a 2018 or later manual Fit EX in a good color like red, orange or blue (yes it's a unicorn)
Aside from FB Marketplace, CarGurus and AutoTrader where are good places to be looking.
