Duncan or Dimarzio for metal?

Duncan or Dimarzio for metal?

Which do you prefer?

I went through the process a few days ago of trying to figure out what to put in my 1986 Robin Medley. It's s-s-h. I ended up getting Seymour Duncan Hotrails and a JB for the bridge. It's at the shop getting set up, frets leveled and polished, and new pickups.

I play Testament, Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, some Priest and Maiden, so mostly thrash.

I bought some PAF Pros for the bridge and neck for my Paul Gilbert Ibanez, but I'm conflicted about dropping them in the guitar. They were the original equipment.

Wnat are you go to pickups?

Super Rare 1986 Robin Guitar

I just got this guitar today. I have a bunch of 80s Charvel, Hamer, and Ibanez guitars, but this is the first Robin guitar I have ever seen or played. These guitars were made in the ESP factory in Japan from 1984 to 1986. After that, the guitars were built in the US in Texas from 1988 until 2010 when they closed. They started production again a few years ago. Tim Kelly of Slaughter used to play these. The neck is smooth and fast.

Anyone have a Carvin?

Jason Becker was my main guitar inspiration. I loved him. My husband ordered me this guitar as a 20th wedding anniversary present. It's supposed to show up end of September. I'm pretty excited. I have Jackson/Ibanez/Charvel shred guitars, but have never played a Carvin.

Do you own a Carvin or have you owned one in the past? Do you remember the catalogs?

I have never seen one in person or played one. I remember the gorgeous flamed DC400 guitars in their catalog and the Koa ones. When was the first time you played one or saw one in person?

Loving the MINI Vai at the hotel (and at home)

I have Marshall stacks at home (Silver Jubilee, JCM 900, JCM 2555SL) and way too many rack effects processors. I have been playing guitar for decades at this point. I'm mentioning that so you know this is not my first rodeo with amps.

This little three pound $200 amp has been one of my favorite gear purchases in a long time. I have been playing this non stop since I got it. It's been sitting on top of a Marshall combo amp in my living room and I have been playing this thing instead.

It has been perfect at the hotel we are staying at. It was so easy to take with us. I put it in a small cooler bag and was able to fit a cable, picks, strings, and whatever else in the same bag.

The built in presets alone are fine. The app has been fun playing around with the like 100k presets that are available. Go buy one if you are debating it.

Anything noticeable wrong with my Tom Anderson?

I had posted a picture of my guitar and some guy said it "needed love." I have no idea what they are talking about. It's a 1993 Tom Anderson Drop Top. Are any of you seeing any issues? It plays fine. I have owned this guitar for 32 years with no issues. Am I missing something?? Thanks.

Happy shredding is not dead

I am an old school shredder. My idols growing up playing guitar were Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Marty Friedman, Steve Vai, etc. I thought sweep picking and shred solos were dead. I just found this sub and have been watching the videos posted by people half my age playing the same fast guitar we did in the 80s, 90s, early 00s before the music scene changed. I stopped listening to "new music" after Pantera. I'm female and that was rare back in the day, so it's nice to see that also changing a bit

Any recommendations on new metal I should check out at this point? My favorite bands are Testament, Megadeth, old Metallica before the black album, Priest, Pantera, Slayer, anything involving Ozzy.

Carry on. You all are awesome.

What are your "are you kidding" moments?

I try to be positive. Sometimes you get into situations where you realize things are just different in your life.

I appear young. I appear healthy. You would not assume anything is wrong by looking at me.

We went to a buffet restaurant today, the kind where you wait in line to pay. The family ahead of us had a problem with their debit card. I was standing still for what could only have been three minutes. I saw my heart rate go up by over 30 bpm and I started to get a headache. I went to the cashier afterwards and asked if I could go in and sit and have my husband pay.

Behind us was a woman who looked to be in her mid 80s with a walker. She could stand in line.

What things have happened where you just had to say "really?!?" Things where you realized something was so different in your personal existence?

Where to start? Spark MINI

Hey all. I have been playing guitar for a long time. My main amps are a Marshall Silver Jubillee, Marshall 2555SL, three other Marshall amps, and a load of 80s and 90s rack gear. I'm used to 100 watt heads and 4x12 cabinets.

We are going away for a week and I got the Spark MINI Vai to take instead of a Marshall combo amp (too big). I played it earlier and the four Vai presets are fine. So, the guitar plugs in and it makes noise.

I downloaded the app.

Where do you go from here? Are there tutorials somewhere? If I start trying new presets on the app, or change the settings on the four Vai presets, will those be overwritten? I wanted to ask those of you who are more familiar before I mess this thing up.

(Main sounds- I play shred guitar, think Yngwie, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, and thrash, Megadeth, Testament, etc)

Thanks :)

Do men mind extremely dense breast tissue?

Do men mind extremely dense breast tissue? I have been working out since they let me into the gym and lift weights and am a long distance runner, so I have low body fat and am thin. I don't have squishy soft boobs at all. They are just solid. I can't imagine what it feels like when someone hugs me. My husband doesn't care and nobody in the past has said anything negative. People have accused me of having implants (I don't). Opinions on this? I was on some fashion subreddit with someone with those big fatty boobs with the cleavage line that squish together and I have nothing like that. Just curious.

Found these at my mom's house :)

I'm dying. I have no memory of getting either of these. I found an autographed picture from David Ellefson wishing me good luck on the bar exam and an autographed picture from Marty Friedman (one of my favorite guitarists).

Dr recs near Lancaster, PA or Long Island NY?

Have any of you had success with doctors who are familiar with POTS/dysautonomia in the Lancaster, PA (or within 2 hours) or Long Island, NY? I contacted NYU Langone clinic, but they are on a year wait list and even then, they need to choose to work with you. Thanks.

How to deal with the transition?

I tried this once before and the solution was a career change from law to teaching. I got sick and I am very likely at the end of the road with teaching. I am still relatively "young," in my 40s. Money is not an issue, thankfully. My school and I will be having a meeting where a separation agreement is likely, based on my health.

How did you transition mentally? It's the loss of identity and purpose that's hitting me. My husband will be retiring soon. He is thrilled and can't wait and I am facing this existential dread.

I have four houses and might sell two of them, maybe one, so that will take some doing. Other than that, I feel kind of lost. Even cutting ties to NY and selling those homes is hitting me hard.

How did you handle the transition?

What is this? INEOS Grenadier

I saw this sitting in the mall near me. It looked well built. I initially thought it was a Range Rover. Do any of you have any experience with this company? I think they are also putting them at the Costcos near us.

Work question

I am a teacher. I have been to a cardiologist and an electrophysiologist (multiple times). I have two week Holter data, an echo stress test, multiple EKGs.

I was on medical leave for three months and they were questioning me the entire time if I was really sick. I have 15 years of near perfect attendance. I got sick this year. I went back for a month and almost collapsed in front of my class. The EP told me it's not safe to do my commute (4.5 hours total per day) and teach. My body can't handle it.

School is now demanding an independent medical exam with their doctors and a psych exam. I have no history of mental illness. I have never seen a psychiatrist, psychologist or a counselor. I have never been on psych meds either. They are demanding a few years of medical history and medications. They think this is psychological and I am faking.

I have worked so hard for this place and these accusations are devastating. Have you ever been accused that what you have isn't real even with actual medical data/tests?

So, my dr said to "try" going back to work. I teach. My principal said every absence will be closely scrutinized. I almost collapsed in class and they took me out in a wheelchair. I was in the nurse's office until I got picked up by my husband. After one day, they replaced me. I am seeing the dr again on Monday and am hoping this will be enough for a note. I almost made it through a month. Well, that did not work. I had been on medical leave for three months and this was my big return back. I have the sick days to be out for the rest of the school year. I have been in bed since Wed night with a terrible migraine and couldn't keep food or water down, but ate something earlier tonight and had a Gatorade today.

This is kind of depressing. How do you all work full time with this? My husband retires after next year, so I was hoping to at least finish next year. I used to practice law, so I could do that again I guess. Ugh.
