La La Land 10 years later…

and the right movie 100% won.

la la land is still great- totally deserved director. and it would have been a great BP winner in almost any other year of the decade.

but man, did the academy get it right that year.

post brought to you be tonight’s re-release viewing in dolby.

Who’s still pissed they got rid of ET?

Especially for a 15 second ride.

Unreasonably angry about this as I watch ET right now.

Lmao.

But really. That was such a perfect ride in every way.

And don’t even get me started on back to the future.

Rec’s for private room in restaurant (Arcadia/Pasadena)?

Hello!

I’m tasked with finding a restaurant with a private(ish) room for a team lunch. Ideally in Arcadia (my first choice was din tai fung - but they’re not taking Resy’s for their private room and want us to raw dog it and walk in 🙄)- as we want to go to lucky strike / bowling after. But open to Pasadena, and if really need be Glendale.

Already have an ask out to panda inn bc there’s also that lucky strike in east pas across the street.

No restrictions on cuisine. Just a little upscale (think DTF and Panda Inn), with good cocktails!

Doesn’t even really have to be a private room. But somewhere that’ll take a resy for upto 15 people.

Also we’re not tied to bowling. Just some sort of activity after (that’s not D&B because we always do that).

Soooo…. Any recs? Thank you!

Private Dinner recommendations near Grand Central for small party.

Hello!

I’m throwing (for work) a smallish (10-15 people - probably even less) dinner the night before a big event.

Anyone have good recs for a place with a private room/space that can accommodate?

Few limitations:

Midtown east / grand central (but def not a requirement! But also not too far from there as that’s where most of the folks will be staying)

On the upscale side.

Cuisine: steakhouse/new American/good wine/that kind of vibe.

Private room/space within the restaurant.

Open to either having everyone order themselves and we pay by cc, or actually contracting and doing some sort of pre set apps/menu.

Thank you!!!!

Tax/Withdrawal Question

Hi There!

Sorry about another one of these, but I’m really really stupid when it comes to this stuff…

(I’m making up numbers here for simplicity).

If I have 10k in my account, and 3k of that is returns, that means I’ve put 7k of my own money in, correct?

How much of that 10k can I take out without being taxed?

And if it “depends” (I think I saw this in another thread)… how do I go about finding out what portion I can actually withdraw without being taxed??

Please help! In need of a little cash right now but want to be smart about it (I know the smartest thing is to not touch it, but humor me!)

Thank you!

Botox/Filler recs?

Your boy is turning 40 this year and needs a little touch up.

Filler for my 11’s. Botox for a couple forehead lines and crows feet. So nothing terribly serious.

I’ve done fillers once. Went to an overpriced plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills.

Seeing as I’m not looking for an artist to sculpt my face… looking for somewhere affordable and reliable.

I don’t mind traveling anywhere in the county for the right price/reviews. But the closer to studio city the better!

Any recommendations??

Where should we eat tonight? SE edition.

asita is our usual haunt, but wanting to switch it up.

Proper cocktails are most important. Vibes and food come next.

Sherman Oaks to Toluca Lake.

No Mexican or Granville. Love both, but not tonight. Also no Firefly.

We have an easy going vegetarian.

What’s good?

Thank you!

Breakfast recs in Long Beach for a large group on a Monday?

hi!

my 40th birthday is coming up and a group of us are going on a cruise! we dock back monday morning, and, as that’s my actual birthday, I thought it would be nice to treat whomever is still down to keep going, to breakfast, as a thank you for coming on the trip.

soooooo any good recs that are open on a monday (i know lots of places are closed), hopefully take a reservation, and open to about 20-30 people?

ideally the would serve booze. but since it’s not a traditional brunch i know that may be rare; so totally open to somewhere more mom and pop / diner-y, if the food is good and the vibes are right!

only restriction is that it be in long beach- the closer to the harbor the better. i’m trying to make it as easy for everyone as possible. i don’t want to ask them to drive too far out of the way.

(posted this in the LB sub, but it’s a lot quieter than here)

thank you!!!

Quantum of the Seas Party Options

Hello!

I’ll be celebrating my 40th on QotS in Sept leaving from LA/LBC.

There’s about 30 of us going, and I’d like to provide SOME sort of loose itinerary for folks that they can follow if they like.

Basically… “here’s where I’m going to be because it’s where I think is going to be the most fun is… join if you like!”

I just don’t know where any of that is yet! Lmao.

Soooo… anyone have any recs??

There’s so many options on the website and it’s a bit overwhelming.

We like to drink and dance! lol.

Help an almost 40 player old please! :)

Who remembers the Mad T Party at DCA?

In hindsight that whole thing was WILD!

EDM, drinks, gogo dancers, even the NAME!

How “T” passed the “censors” when “Tea” was right there (and would make more sense)… is beyond me.

Whatever gay got away with that…. 🤣👏🏼🤯

Or maybe they found out and that’s why it ended?

Anyway! It was a good time.

Where to digitize VHS tapes?

Morning!

I know there are plenty of online services that do this, but I’m a little hesitant bc I’m scared something may happen to the vhs. Either by negligence or act of God / bad luck. Even worse if something happens to it before it even gets to the vendor and it’s all lost forever.

Anyone have rec’s for a brick and motor I can physically hand them off to?

The closer to studio city the better. But I’ll go anywhere in LA/OC for the right work/price!

Good brunch spot/s by All Seasons?

Hi again!

Any good recs for brunch spots near/walkable to All Seasons Brewery?

Bacari vibes. Good cocktails. Patio (ideally). Food isn’t as important as drinks and ambience.

ETA: this would be for this Sunday. Republique doesn’t take (or doesn’t have) anything available. :(

What is it with the PeopleMover love?

Kinda new around here, but the amount of times I’ve seen comments begging for the people mover to come back… has me wondering why?

Especially as it relates to “fixing” tomorrowland. What was so special about it? I rode it back in the day and don’t remember anything particularly exciting?

What’s the deal? Or is it some sub inside joke?

If anything I would think the sky buckets would be more popular??

Help me understand!

Metrolink or Amtrak to Fullerton?

Hi all!

Last week I asked what the best public transit options were to get down to Disney from Union (between specific trains/stations/ bus lines/ubers – so I did my research! haha).

Based on some additional recon of Ubers at the time of arrival (same day too- just a week earlier)… looks like the best/easiest thing for us will be to take the train to Fullerton, and then Uber to Disney.

In case you are wondering… at about 430pm… an Uber comfort from Fullerton Transportation Center is $20 and 16 min; and from the ARTIC its $19 and 14 min. A complete wash. And considering both Metrolink and Amtrak take about 7-9 min to get to Anaheim from Fullerton… Fullerton seems to be the winner!!! Everyone on all the subs were completely split between which one we should get off at.

Here to ask/follow up on ONE last thing, as it got lost in a lot of the other questions I was asking and people were giving me different responses… so hopefully this will be a bit more focused.

Metrolink or Amtrak from Union to Fullerton? It will be on Thursday, the 3:40pm Metrolink or the 3:10pm (maybe 4:10) Amtrak.

Money is “not an issue.” I just don’t want delays and I would rather it not be crowded! Someone in one of the subs I had posted on said the Amtrak was standing room only whereas a Metrolink was completely empty. But then people say the OC line is wonky all the time. And then vice versa. So im getting mixed messages!

Soooo… only one question this time… which one should I take??

SoFi water bottle “policy”?

Hi!

I know the posted/official policy for reusable water bottles at SoFi… but what can I actually get away with?

If i take a black hydroflask with liquid in it, are they actually going to care/take it away/make me spill it out?

Or can I walk right in?

Their bag policy is very loose (compared to what’s posted) - I’ve taken in larger, unclear bags, with no issue.

So seeing if it’s the same for water bottles/hydroflasks!

This is for today, btw!

Go Iran! 💚🤍❤️

Which public transit route to take to Disneyland?

I cant believe I’m actually asking a Disneyland question… but here we are. Hopefully the way it’s framed will help others as well and not be too terribly annoying for this sub who gets asked this daily… but here we go!

Going to public from Union to Disney. We don’t want to sit in traffic (as we cant get there before 5), and plan on drinking adult beverages (as it will be the pride night event 🏳️‍🌈) and we want to be responsible! So we’re going to take the train and then the bus. My question is… which train and which bus!

Option 1) Metrolink to Fullerton, OCTA (543) to Disney

Option 2) Metrolink to Anaheim, OCTA (553) to Disney

Option 3) Amtrak to Fullerton, OCTA (543) to Disney

Option 4) Amtrak to Anaheim, OCTA (553) to Disney

The total travel time is generally the same for all options. And money (for the most part) isn’t an issue. I am just trying to find the easiest path.

I’ve never been to Fullerton Station or the ARTIC; and ive never ridden an OCTA bus, which will generally be around rush hour. One station may be easier than the other. One line may not be as full as the other. I would hate to see a crowded bus pass by when the other line would have been empty, or could have just taken an uber from the OC station (which is also an option!)

Additionally… I know Metrolink can be a little unreliable these days? Or maybe I’m making that up. But here for your infinite wisdom.

Ubering back at night as there wont be any traffic and it wont be over $150.

THANK YOU!
