Four Real-World Machetes for a Vampire Hunter’s Kit. -by u/bryanthebryan

As common folklore would suggest, vampire immortality can be suspended indefinitely if the head is separated from the body.

For my ongoing Vampire Hunter project, I’m illustrating the equipment a professional hunter might realistically use. Whenever possible, I’ve chosen real, commercially available tools rather than inventing exaggerated fantasy weapons.

For the machete section, I selected four different designs to deal with the same essential problem:

TOPS Knives X16 Ginunting
Condor K-Night Machete
Extrema Ratio KH Kukri
CRKT Halfachance

I wanted to avoid the stereotypical “mall ninja” aesthetic and concentrate on blades that look practical, durable, and believable as working tools, even if their fictional purpose is to detach heads from bodies.

If anyone is interested in a 3-minute speed paint video of me making this, here it is: https://youtube.com/shorts/d0OYgWzg_Lg?si=ZybUCAgO9dmclORC

Which one would you choose for a vampire hunter’s kit? Would you have chosen something else?

I do have an accompanying piece focused on survival knives, pocket knives, and backup knives, along with all of the other kinds of weapons one might expect a Vampire Hunter to have in their arsenal. If anyone is interested in seeing any of those, let me know.

Finished Rawhead Rex drawing (digital by me)

I previously posted the cleaned up linework of my Rawhead Rex drawing here and I received a lot of positive feedback. This is the final colored version of this drawing. I made some changes here and there while coloring it, mainly around the mouth, adding neck veins, and drool. If you're interested in seeing a 3-minute speed paint video of me making this, here it is: https://youtube.com/shorts/8eYVethr0z8?si=EFH_07kDDEPEPue2

A Vampire Hunter's Journal (digital by me)

One of the props for my ongoing Vampire Hunter world building project is this field notebook.

The idea was to create something similar to the worn hunter journal you see in the show Supernatural.  It’s been carried for years, constantly updated after encounters, and filled with observations rather than polished scientific writing.

Inside are sketches of vampire anatomy, notes on physiology and behavior, weaknesses, field observations, and personal theories. It also serves as an equipment reference, listing the various weapons, tools, and specialized ammunition that appear throughout the larger project.

I wanted it to feel like something a veteran hunter would actually keep in a backpack. It’s beat up, heavily used, constantly revised, and full of information gathered through experience rather than from a textbook.

Everything is hand illustrated as part of the larger project. I tried to include enough small details that someone could spend time reading through it as if it were a real artifact from a real world.

I’d love to hear what kinds of notes or details you would expect to find in a hunter’s field journal.

I don't think I can post a link to it here, but I have a 3-minute speed paint video of me making this for anyone interested.

Drawing Tonkatsu over shredded cabbage and rice, one grain at a time. (Digital by me)

I'm working on a Vampire Hunter project and part of that project features food. In addition to ramen, there's tonkatsu, gyoza, a dipping sauce, and a beer. This is the timelapse of the tonkatsu portion. I ended up drawing the rice grains and cabbage individually and layering them so it looks like rice close up, instead of clumps of mass that kind of look like rice from afar. I realize this might not be the most authentic presentation of the dish, but this is how it was served at the restaurant I worked at as a teen.

A drawing of Tonkatsu over shredded cabbage and rice (digital by me)

I'm working on a project for a Vampire Hunter and I have a food section that I dedicated to Japanese food. I have ramen, tonkatsu, gyoza, a dipping sauce, and a beer. This is the tonkatsu. I was a little obsessive about the rice and ended up drawing every grain. If anyone is interested in a 3-minute speed paint of me drawing this, you can see it here: https://youtube.com/shorts/zLvd-A3MGYI?si=EmH0PA8M03bT27fb

Rawhead Rex (digital drawing by me)

I've always thought that Rawhead Rex had so much potential to be iconic. Alas, he's more relegated to cult classic status. Fortunately for me, the original was a great starting point to iterate on the design and make some tweaks. Here's a clean line art digital drawing I made of him. This is a drawing I made for a Vampire Hunter project: Kriss Sphinx SDP Compact, Bond Arms Bullpup 9, Lifecard .22

Here is a drawing I did of the sidearms for a Vampire Hunter project I’m working on.

At the top we have a Kriss SDP Compact equipped with a Dead Air Mojave 9 Suppressor, along with a Streetlight TLR-7

This is paired with four 18 round magazines, each with a different load out.

 - Federal HST

 - Hornady Critical Defense

 - G2 RIP

 - Black Hills Honeybadger - X-Treme Penetrator

To the left of that is a Trailblazer Firearms Lifeguard .22 LR. I would consider this a deep concealment backup to the backup.

The primary backup being the Bond Arms Bullpup 9. I chose to custom engraved the slide for more visual interest. r/pimpguns was a real help here.

This is paired with four 7 round magazines, loaded with two different load outs

Most of my Vampire Hunter project is full of weapons specifically catering the dispatching of the undead. I have a semi auto crossbow with custom bolts, a modified Super Soaker, a grenade launcher with a variety of rounds, more explosives, lots of blades, etc.

However, in most vampire lore, less-than-supernatural threats often additional problems. When you hunt vampires, you have to deal with their companions. That’s where standard firearms come in. They don’t have expensive silver bullets, or specialty rounds. These are what a Vampire Hunter might use leading up to the primary target, at least in my lore.

I drew fictional goth zine for my Vampire Hunter project.

I'm working on a big Vampire Hunter project and it's full of easter eggs and little details. This is a fictional goth zine I designed as one of those details. I recorded the process and made a 3 minute timelapse. If anyone is interested, check it out here: https://youtube.com/shorts/W9SZu3tUHkU?si=gWlfRufLOYbPigCp
