Has anyone ever wondered…

Why Blix was such a big deal at PCA? This isn’t anything to overthink about, just asking out of pure curiosity since the group was almost always drinking one! 😆 They looked so refreshing, especially the blue and orange flavors, but I couldn’t help but think about how much they resembled kids mouth wash lol. Anyway, I used to think they were fruit flavored drinks but I’m learning that they were apparently a parody of Gatorade? They even had a soda machine for Blix, and then ofc there’s that one episode where there was a Blix contest.

What are some details that make you stop and think?

The girls have one couch throughout the series and one couch only. A small, uncomfortable looking couch. They spend majority of the time sitting and talking on it, reading the magazine, and watching TV. It’s not very cozy or cushiony and definitely not suitable for the type of binge watching ppl do nowadays. This detail just goes to show how much we’ve evolved since the 80s. When you go to buy a couch nowadays, It’s not about the details imprinted on the fabric, it’s not even about the brand, it’s about the convenience and comfortability of it. It’s basically your second bed! 😆

In your opinion, what made Zoey 101 stand out from the rest of the hit Nickelodeon shows in the 2010s?

This show has always had a noticeably different tone than the teen dramas that came after it. Unlike the other Nickelodeon shows, this one didn’t revolve around family (unless you count Zoey and Dustin and the “found family” trope) or include a laugh track, but I just feel like this show intentionally took a different approach to teen drama that changed the game. It did feel very kiddish but that’s bc it was, and all of us watched when we were their age or younger so it was perfect. It perfectly captured this idea of what being a kid/teen in the 2000s/2010s should’ve felt like. Everything was colorful, vibrant, trendy, and fun. Watching makes you nostalgic for something you either had or wished you had—whether it was the cool lamps or cute clothes the girls wore.

I just think that this show ultimately stands out from the rest bc it had a completely different tone than, let’s say, Victorious (which idk if it passes Zoey 101 in popularity or not). Now obviously, Victorious is far from similar to Zoey 101 in terms of tone, setting, and characters, but I feel like Zoey 101 that gets overshadowed by Victorious, which was mainly targeted towards late Gen Z kids.

This show so effortlessly delivers gut wrenching tragedy 💔

I wasn’t originally a fan of this couple or the individual characters, but I feel like they were truly compatible for each other. Liv was the firey blonde that lit up Tyler’s world, and I really wish we saw them reunite in the S8 finale! 😔

Side note: Tyler was actually a good character but they just didn’t know what else to do w/ him after the Klaus storyline. His death was just a waste imo. Frustrating how they disregarded him just bc he wasn’t relevant anymore. Dude was literally like Matt but more interesting.

This show perfectly captures the essence of what school should’ve felt like

When I was a lot younger, I wanted so badly to be able to travel to PCA bc everyone seemingly got to have endless freedom and tons of opportunities to hangout and make friends. It seemed like the ideal academic experience for any Millennial and Gen Z. I mean, being able to lounge, advocate, drink those fun bottled drinks, eat good food, and have limited adult supervision? Count me in lol.

I do have a question, and idk if this was ever mentioned in the show: how did the kids afford to consistently eat out? From the looks of it, PCA probably costed an arm and leg to get into. If this was covered, kindly remind me.

Opinion: Belly’s one of the better written female teen characters in this generation of TV

This post isn’t about the love triangle, it’s strictly about Belly herself. Her as a young woman.

I made a post kind of similar to this one a while ago but decided that I wanted to approach this one a little differently. This really is inspired by My Life With The Walter Boys bc I keep comparing and contrasting Jackie and Belly (bc TSITP was the last teen drama I watched), and then I got to thinking about how Belly really stands out from the rest.

There’s other shows that we’ve all been hearing about lately and are probably fully invested in, but regardless of what I watch, my mind always goes back to Belly when I think about a well written, realistic teenager. I really appreciate the way she was written now more than ever before. First off, Lola Tung is just naturally a really bubbly person so she totally poured herself into this role. But she also does an amazing job at portraying raw, messy, ugly heartbreak.

But in regard to how Belly was written, I like how her journey from teen to adolescent was handled. I felt it was raw and authentic. The way she goes from not caring that much about her style to wearing cute clothes and then dabbling in makeup. I loved the way we could literally see Belly develop into this beautiful woman. It was a slow, realistic and relatable process bc, truth be told, not every girl goes straight into hair, makeup, and style. I can attest to that. I just, personally, feel that she has a lasting impact more than any other female fictional teen (from this generation, at least).

Opinion: This show was, in a way, undervalued.

Despite the popularity of Charmed, I don’t think it gets enough praise due to the behind the scenes drama + the controversies surrounding the girls having to appeal to male gaze in later seasons.

A lot of the stuff regarding Charmed hasn’t been good over the years. Lots of drama, lots of speculation about who was in the wrong and who was in the right. I just think that it all has overshadowed the good qualities this show had.

Also, as a Buffy fan, I’ve been made aware that some fellow Buffy fans feel that Charmed was dirt quality compared to Buffy. This made me realize that Charmed really is undervalued compared to other supernatural shows. And I, personally, think Charmed doesn’t rank below Buffy at all, unless we’re talking specifics.

My thing is, Charmed had a lot to offer—from wholesome sisterhood moments and comedy to good dynamics and characters. I don’t think this show lacked much, I think it went in a good direction, hit a few curbs along the way, but ultimately found itself again.

Prior to watching Buffy and Angel, were there any assumptions you made that turned out to be wrong?

I thought Buffy was some erotic 90s vampire show (I saw pics of Buffy and Spike in his layer from S6. Oh how wrong I was to think that was the premise of the show 😅).

As for Angel, I thought it was going to be super duper dark and less of a comedy than Buffy. Turns out, Angel was funny if not funnier than Buffy sometimes! 😆

It’s so awesome to see how influential Buffy’s wardrobe is! 🩷

You could say Buffy was the blueprint.

She was just that girl! 😌

(Picture taken by one of the actresses from the hit Prime series “Elle” which takes place years before Elle Woods steps foot into Harvard!)

The reviews for the show have been mixed, but the actress portraying younger Elle is so spot on that you question whether or not it’s Reese Witherspoon herself! 😆 Aside from good casting, there’s good dynamics, funny moments, and tons of pop culture references (yes, Buffy was one of them)!

Maybe Buffy wouldn’t have been decked out in pink like Elle, but she sure would’ve rocked some of Elle’s outfits bc she’s literally the inspiration for Elle! I’ve been thinking about how similar they are personally wise too! Both bubbly, witty, smart, and so on! If Lexi Minetree (the actress) was around in the 90s, she would’ve made an amazing Buffy! 😁

Random thought occurred

So, to me, Andy and Darryl had potential to have their own show. Now I’m not talking about a spin-off, I’m talking about if the show was reversed and it was the cops (Andy and Darryl) investigating unexplained supernatural crimes. It would still revolve around the girls but they just wouldn’t be the main characters.

I hope at least one of you can see the vision. While idk exactly how it would’ve worked, I think it would’ve been really cool concept; a procedural show w/ a touch of magic in it. In this scenario, Andy and Darryl would be solving crimes while keeping the girls secret and helping them in the process. This could’ve been a really fun, quirky 90s show!

Elle related questions!

1st one: Where do we think Elle (or her mother) buys her clothes from? Pink has been in for a long time, but I wouldn’t think that it would’ve been so easy to find different styles and shades of pink designer clothes. It’s not like nowadays where you can easily access specific clothing.

2nd one: Which 90s character would Elle have actually gotten along w/? I feel like her and Buffy would’ve hit it off immediately! 😁

One thing I just really love…

Is the evolution of Taylor and Belly’s style/hair color.

I just can’t get over how good the girls look…and speaking as a fellow girly who lovesss to dissect characters outfit choices and such. They just looked so gorgeous, so grown, so glowy. (And speaking of glowing, I feel like everyone had a fresh tan or something 😭, especially Conrad.)

Style represents us; it shows others who we are. It can speak for us, speak for our emotions, our growth as individuals.

For Belly, she gained more confidence over time, ditching loose clothes and switching to tighter tops, styling her hair differently, and eventually diving into makeup (mainly eyeliner, which I absolutely love on her!).

I’m sure quite a few of you pay attention to style evolution/details as much as I do. I just can’t get over Belly’s sun-kissed skin, and Taylor’s beach blonde hair. I have to say…I absolutely hated her bangs in S2. Not sure how unpopular this opinion is, but I just don’t think the type of bangs she had suited her. I personally think less thicker bangs (wispy) would’ve done the job.

The necessary upgrade

Say what you want about Claire’s role in Fallen Kingdom, but Ms. Dearing’s new and improved style upgrade was one of the highlights of the movie. It only made sense for her to drop the corporate look and go for something that is not only more comfortable but more realistic as well. I think I’m more obsessed w/ the high ponytail than anything else! 😆 But loved that the bangs were kept. I think that’s her signature look tbh. Glad they never fully went away.

Love/hate relationship w/ the writing for the beloved female characters

It sucks. Justice for these two remarkable characters.

As horrible as Cordelia and Fred’s death was, I still appreciate the way they were written prior. I want to destroy whoever green lit their deaths, but at the same time, praise them. Cordelia’s character development was everything, and Fred’s growth from a timid, traumatized young woman to a fierce fighter was amazing to see. I love the way her smarts were incorporated into her job at W&H. While I strongly dislike the W&H storyline, I do like that she played a big role there instead of being placed in an office desk or something. Not that she’d ever settle for less.

Anyway, once again, and as always, justice for Cordelia and Fred! 💔

One thing I just don’t understand

Is why Spike even drew this? 😂

Obviously, the true reason is that it was for comical purposes, lol.

But I’m still curious. Like, has he actually taken a good look at Angel’s forehead, or is he just jealous of his handsomeness? Bc Angel’s forehead is no where near big, in fact, it’s kind of small. End of discussion.

The Golden Girls broke the barriers, giving us a clear insight on the harsh reality of the 80s | What were some of your favorite eye opening moments?

I’m sure all of us—young and old(er)—are used to the 80s being glamorized by those who may remember more than you. But behind the glamour and pizzazz of the 80s was an era that had many problems of its own, problems were still facing today. Ageism, sexism, racism, homophobia—take your pick, the list goes on. The Golden Girls surprisingly approached these sensitive topics, bringing us back to reality; this world, this country, is far from perfect. It’s troubled (honestly too nice of a word) among other things.

Were there any important, relevant moments that’ve stuck w/ you? And if so, why?

For me, the first one being the scene where Sophia reveals that she prioritizes her children’s wellbeing over their sexual orientation. The second scene being the one where Mario Lopez guests stars as a young, smart student who isn’t here legally.

While majority of POC characters were tied to stereotypes in this era, I appreciate the show for spreading awareness about other topics, especially to predominantly white audiences—and average Americans in general—as this shows a different perspective of life in America.

Appreciating Belly’s character

I feel like younger Belly represents those of us younger ppl, but especially younger women, who don’t know where we’re going in life, but know that we’ll get there someday. Some of us dealt/are still dealing w/ insecurities, had little to no friends, couldn’t do makeup for shit, or lived in the shadows of our more “attractive” friends. But…we found ourselves, eventually.

16-year-old Belly didn’t have it all figured out, and neither do a lot of young ppl. Yet, it’s expected of young ppl to have their lives—and themselves—figured out by the time they’re 18…as if bumps in the road don’t happen. Thing is, the pressure and expectations leading up to adulthood can, sometimes, make us miss some of the best moments that we’ll never get back. Belly has always given the vibe that she was the type to live, even through the bad stuff, bc she saw beauty in life in a way that not everyone does.

Part of being a woman is feeling pressured to follow demanding expectations, and feeling less than when we can’t figure it all out. Truth is, everyone figures themselves out at different times. The pressure to find yourself when you’re not ready only makes things worse. It needs to happen organically. It’s a journey, as is everything else in life.

I think we get so caught up in all the beauty standards and trends that we forget that teenagers are entering a whole new world of self-discovery. Belly was just looking forward to spending yet another summer in her favorite place on earth. She didn’t care about dressing up for Conrad; she pulled up to Cousins in loose, comfortable clothes, ready to enjoy summer to the fullest.
