Closed on Saturday with 88 bids and $24k sell price. Went cleaning up favorites today and noticed, still ended with 0 bids at original $14.99 list. Did the shill bot accidentally win this one?
Edit: sorry 24k sell not 22k
I initially thought Seiko sport quartz, but the bracelet closure and case back appear to be wrong. Similar in styling to an Omega Constellation Marine, but not enough “bumps” on the bezel, and definitely no other higher end watches in the lot. Best I can make out on the writing is maybe
>Water
>Quartz
I grew up wearing Ironman watches. Usually the digital Classic 30 lap variants. I was super excited to find this stainless analog at a thrift shop for $15.
Something I’ve never seen on any watch, the second crown position adjusts the hour hand instead of the date. Meant to be a quick time zone change. But that’s also how you change the date, advancing the hour hand 24hrs per day changing. So they traded quick date set for quick time zone setting. I had to look it up because I was afraid it was malfunctioning.
It is infinitely more adjustable than the nato. My watch sits lower because of the second pass being under my wrist. Stretchy. No excess that has to be folded and tucked back into a keeper.
I just don’t know why more brands aren’t offering the paratrooper as a strap option on their main lines.
Casio Royale for the drive and leisure.
Nautis Meridian Chronograph for the beach.
Citizen quartz tank for dinner out.
Wenger Swiss Military for adventuring.
Nike Grand Cayman for poolside.
Extra straps for funsies.
Travel case was a gift from my wife, from Amazon I believe.
Obviously I’m finding plenty of results for the Grand Cayman dive watch, but everything I’m finding has black or silver dials. It is the WW0016 38mm version, but I’m not finding anything with the yellow dial. Maybe it was from outside the US market?
It is an Allied Coastline ref TW2R45800 but there’s a couple discrepancies. I already knew about the bracelet, it is from the TW2R46000 and this reference was only offered with the black leather strap. I also knew about the mis-colored second hand, it should match hour and minute hands and this one looks like it’s from the Bronze colored TW2R45700. I’m not at all complaining about those two since straps and bracelets are interchangeable and I like that the second hand matches the bezel indexes.
I’m mainly curious about the random reference number on the case back. Is that just a production error? Or did I get a knockoff?
It had a 364 battery and I had one on hand but that didn’t start it. I haven’t tried to short it yet, still need to look that up again. But I’d like to confirm battery size as well. Thanks y’all.
As a runner and an athlete, I wore watches all through high school. My primary watch of choice was a Timex Ironman 30 Lap I wore daily. After high school, I just kept wearing the digital running watches.
One year, with a gift giving occasion on the horizon, my mom asked me what I would like. I was in the middle of binge watching Smallville and had noticed a watch that Clark (Tom Welling) wore; a stainless Victorinox Swiss Army on a leather strap, with a red bezel. So I told her I wanted a Swiss army watch that was silver on a leather strap. This is what she came back with, and it immediately became my daily.
It stayed on my wrist for 5 or 6 years until I joined the Army. I fell into the G-Shock crowd and the Wenger graduated to being my weekend warrior. My Friday night to Sunday GADA. Eventually the battery died and it got put in a drawer or a box. But I kept it because it was a gift from my mom.
I recently ditched the Apple Watch and fixed up all of my old watches. Replaced some batteries, bought some new straps, and rubbed a little polish across the crystals. And this old Wenger has quickly become one of my favorites again.
Do I want a Spirit, an Oris, or similar? Absolutely. Do I have the means to buy those watches? Absolutely not! But you know what I do have? A reliable Swiss quartz movement. A robust stainless steel 40mm case. With 20mm width between the twisted lugs. A silver guilloche dial. And it feels like a subtle wink from my mom when I’m out to breakfast with my own family.
Found an old 24mm in my stash with 🍎 connections. It doesn’t fit anything else I have so I used the stock straps as a template and cut a new strap.
Anyone have pics of a brown leather strap on the black resin case?
Seiko, Helbros, Armitron (x2), Pulsar, Wenger (x2), and a Swiss Army brand. All quartz. I only had batteries on hand for the Seiko and the square Armitron. I’ll probably strap up and sell the black dial Armitron and the Pulsar, let my wife decide on the 3 Swiss watches. Crystal on the Seiko is scratched to hell, perfect for trying to figure out how to buff it. The square Armitron is practically new condition, and gives serious Timex E Line vibes. The Helbros has a Y481F movement, but so far I’ve been unable to figure out a date on it but I’m guessing 80s. And regardless what my wife decides, I will be holding on to the gold tone Wenger, I’ve got the original buckle and I think it needs a nice blue alligator leather strap.
Vintage 1974. Ref 23660 02574
Great watch for $10. But the bracelet feels super cheap, and it was difficult to adjust links for my 6.75” wrist.
