my baby isn’t even done growing as he’s only seven months old, but this “elevated food bowl” is already way too low for him to not be hunched over anyways! i do like it because of how flat it is, i think its good for there to be no whisker fatigue. i only feed them their wet food in it
does anyone have recommendations for an actual higher food bowl? preferably one that i can get in the netherlands, but otherwise do feel free to share what you have for your maine coon and i can look whether its something i may be able to get here somewhere
thanks !!!!

Hi friends. I am one of your mods here, and I've been thinking about adding a rule about this. I'm just the lucky owner of a Maine Coon and an experienced reddit mod though, so not someone with any professional experience - and I'm finding trying to research this stuff super complicated.
My main focus is on making sure that we do not promote any unhealthy breeding practices. Without breeders there would be no Maine Coons, and breeding Maine Coons means breeding cats that historically have had certain health issues - but there are different levels of breeders actually caring about the health of the cats they are putting on this earth. Like making sure to do extensive health testing, making sure adopters reach out to you if their cat gets a certain illness, only breeding with healthy parents. I think it's incredibly important to try to do the most you can to ensure your cats are able to live long and happy lives.
Short context on the blue eyes issue: it concerns DBE, the gene for Dominant Blue Eyes. From what I can tell, DBE / attempting to breed blue eyes in cats where they don't naturally occur comes with a higher risk of deafness and Waardenburg Syndrome.
On blue eyes:
- Different breed standards say that blue eyes are either just allowed in white cats, or in cats ''with white''. The fife standard explicitly says ''Blue is only permitted with EMS codes w, 01 and 02.'' But TICA says blue is permitted ''with white''.
(Small sidenote is that this subreddit is not just USA-based, I myself am from Western Europe and if at all possible I'd like to try to keep not exclusively USA-based breed standards in mind.)
- So: what exactly does that mean? Is it okay for any colour Maine Coon that has a little bit of white, to have blue eyes?
Right now it always makes me quite uncomfortable when someone posts their blue-eyed Maine Coon, and either writes something in the title about their beautiful eyes, or all of the comments are just about the eyes. It makes me worry that people are going to see it and it'll make more people seek out cats like that, that might have been irresponsibly bred.
- But responsibly bred blue-eyed Maine Coons do exist - right? But what do those look like?
- Or is trying to breed for blue eyes always an indicator of DBE potentially playing up?
Small sidenote on polydactyl cats:
- This seems a more cut and dry case. From most of my research I can see that this trait is quite inherent in Maine Coons, and only sometimes leads to health issues or complications with the extra toes.
- But I'm still curious whether anyone has any thoughts on it when it comes to this discourse. Does anyone have experience with their polydactyl Maine Coon (not) having complications from them?
- I don't think poly cats would ever end up becoming part of the rule because there's so many poly MCs, but I am still curious for people's opinions.
My question is essentially:
- Keeping in mind the focus being to try to promote healthy breeding standards: what do you think the rule should be when it comes to posting cats that have traits that make them more physically appealing for humans, that the cat might suffer from health-wise?
- Does anyone have some experience or sources or just thoughts on what that looks like when it comes to blue-eyed Maine Coons?
Thanks so much to anyone that is willing to spend some time to help me out. Please try and be kind and understanding of the fact that I'm just trying to do what's best for the kitties.

does this exist? im just looking for something small / portable / that looks fun and different from a hyper hd phone camera
i just bought a kodak charmera and while i love it and think its so cute, theres definitely situations in which i would prefer for it to not have a flash or for it to make the sound.
just because sometimes being the person pulling out a lil camera while outside and taking a picture of something already feels weird, and then pulling extra attention to it makes me feel like it'd make me less likely to want to do it at all. which sucks
(just to clarify; i dont want to take pictures of anything weird or of anyone without their permission)
thanks!
imm completely new to instax and just experimenting with my instax mini 99 so please forgive any noobness !!
Congratulations Fritzy and u/lookitsnichole, you are our sunbathing Tuxetortico of the Month for July!
u/lookitsnichole had this to say about their kitty:
"Hello! This is Fritzy. Sadly she is no longer with us as of early May, but she was my best kitty. This is from April and she was a pro sunbather! She was stubborn, prickly and had tons of tortitude, but she also had a purr that you could hear across the room. When she wanted to sit in your lap there was no other option, and you would get purred at for hours. She loved popcorn and would harass you for popcorn, also accompanied by the purr so that you couldn't forget what a nice cat she was. ❤️"
Thank you so much for sharing her with us! She was absolutely gorgeous and she looks so relaxed seeking out that sunbeam - and of course, your story tugged at our heartstrings. It never gets easier but hopefully the joy that her life brought to you helps, and now lots of other people get to enjoy her too ❤
Thank you everyone who submitted their kitties for sharing them with us, and keep your eyes out for next months theme announcement!

she's quite unsure about the outside world and thinks it should stay away 😁
Hi everyone!!
Welcome to the r/mainecoons monthly feature, where we spotlight a chosen Maine Coon each month! The winner will have their picture made the sub thumbnail for the entire month, as well as having a post about them pinned to the top of the sub for all to admire!
There will be a different theme each month, with winners being chosen by a mod vote.
This month's theme is Funny poses!
I'm sure that for any cat haver this doesnt need any further explanation hahah. To enter, simply add a picture of your Maine Coon in a funny pose, with a short description of your cat, fun facts etc. You will have three days to post your pictures and we will announce the winner around July 1st!
Depending on where you are the sun is currently out in full force and your kitties may or may not be enjoying it in full force :) So show us those sunbathing kitties!!
