What did people do before the incredible modern safety fuel cans? I can already feel global warming reversing.

30ft/8" Norway Maple in a nice spot, between old tall limbed oaks, and younger shorter developing trees. Kill it anyway - replace with baby Red Maple? Or embrace.

Doing some grading and clearing out a huge forsythia patch. Debating the fate of this volunteer Norway (I think) maple. I'm taking numerous others down within the wooded area which is overgrown with them, but I'm 56 and as much as I wish it was a red maple in that centerpiece location, idk if I should drop it and replant and eat a decade waiting for it to fill back into a nice shade tree in that spot. Especially since I lost 30' sassafras for some reason the past couple years that were my primary "mid yard" shade.

What do you think?

Being a mechanic in California versus New England must be like having a completely different job

12ft Abies Concolor (blue cloak) - pinch back to single growing tip?

What caused these corrosion holes in the aluminum siding on my 2002' Nash? Was definitely not mechanical damage.

Seems like wooden frame member is behind that spot. Fairly rotted at this point in that area due to the holes. But there's a bunch of them - not like one nail rubbed through or something. The rest of the RV is in fine condition for age (second pic shows blue tape over the holes on front corner while I washed it)

Eli5 - is there something inherently unique about carbon and water (et. al.) that makes scientists assume planets with life would need them, or is that just an “earth centric” assumption because that’s how life works on our planet?

Niwaki for Bosnian Pine that was near death and is looking like it will now survive?

I'm thinking this Bosnian Pine might be a good candidate to try Niwaki with - looking for opinions or any recommendations. As bad as it looks, it is on the mend and has nice healthy growth on all tips and small new internal growth. I have not tried any pruning yet beyond removed dead stuff.

Was near death in a too shady spot and I moved it last spring to full sun and also unfortunately the root ball really crumbled on me during the move. It lost nearly all the sparse needles it had left in the first place. But this new growth looks better than in years, so I think it's going to make it and the Bosnian Pine is a lovely pine that seems like it could be well suited to this.

I found a root flare under the weeds! (mature healthy pignut hickory)

After finally removing a host of maple volunteers, oriental bittersweet, and poison ivy - my pignut hickory looks so much nicer.

Think this is a common Ganoderma, but thought it was interesting anyway

Sounds like this is a common eastern hardwood dweller, but I get a kick of out these things growing in my back yard (CT) so hope it's worth a post.

Is this a queen bumblebee?

This is in Connecticut - I disturbed an underground bees nest today while putting in a drainage ditch. They appear to be bumblebees (although I have a lot of carpenter bees nearby) and I couldn't actually see the nest, just little 'peanut' balls they seemed to be trying to rescue or visit.

My question is that a few of them were much larger than the others. This is one. Would that be a queen? And if so, is it common to be more than one? I saw at least 3 that were large like that, while most were the size of the smaller bees crawling around with it. It is larger than the big carpenter bees, which themselves are quite a bit larger than those small ones in the video.

Embracing my old man-ness

2003 Jaguar XKR. Second owner as of two years ago, when I realized it was cheaper than a clapped out S 2000, and I was never really gonna track it anyway.

Many fb marketplace vehicle listings having plus sized women on them. It's become quite common - different listings, different sellers, and different women but all bigger women I assume to grab attention - it must be AI - right?

Paranoid newb with unknown plated steel - safe to weld? (not galvanized)

I'm probably overthinking this - it's just a big clothing rack like you'd find in a department store. 100lbs of 1/8" steel to practice with though. Pic shows where I ground it.
I hear horror stories about galvanized or cad plated.
