Why did my nail salon try so hard to get us to pay in cash?

Apologies if it's the wrong flair but I guess I'm unhappy with this.

Earlier today I went to a nail salon with some friends in the lead up to a wedding this weekend. We told the salon that it was for a wedding, and that we weren't very well versed with nail salon stuff. All up, it took about 3 hours and cost approx $370 for the three of us (one of my friends had a complicated request)

When we went to pay (one of us paid, the others transferred the money) the salon owner asked us to pay in cash with a $20 discount in cash. Then, they offered $30 off if we paid in cash. None of us had $370 (or $340) in cash, so we couldn't.

Why... Did they do this? Our only guess is that they were trying to dodge GST, cause the discount is roughly as much as GST would be, but the amount of pressure they put on us was crazy! Is this how every salon operates? It was such a weird energy at the end of a fun nail sesh.

In search of a specific video

Hey, I'm certain that in late 2023/early 2024 there was a Keith eats the menu or Keith eats a conveyor belt video where, at some point, Zach says "we're not going to feature X company on this channel anymore in line with BDS boycott" does anyone else remember this??? I so clearly remember him stumbling over it, I'm sure this was in a video at some point. If anyone can find it please link me thank you!!!

With respect to the various complaints people have

I think that some of you need to keep in mind that Smosh is, primarily, a comedy platform. They don't always focus on the game they're playing cause instead they're focusing on the comedy. The jokes don't always land but at least they're trying to make them, not just shutting others down/being quiet.

Ily all and I do like having a space to complain occasionally but some of the recent posts feel more like "why aren't the funny people being serious" well because they're not trying to be serious

How dangerous is it to leave my laptop plugged in 99% of the time?

I work fully remote so don't need to bring it to an office, sometimes take it travelling so obv unplug it for the travel but once I arrive I'll just plug it back in again. Am I doing damage to it in some way?

[computer][2000s] educational game about ancient Rome

Hey, I used to play this game alllllll the time when I was younger.

It was a city builder, a bit like simcity but specifically set in ancient Rome. There were some NPCs that were based on real life historical figures, but the majority of the citizens of your city were just generic people.

The narrator of the game was British and says the line "the granaries in your city are nearly empty" with a very serious and sad tone. I heard this line many times.

Some levels had combat that I never understood so didn't play much, and never unlocked most of them. Some levels were just city builders, and I played those constantly.

Scrolling the mouse wheel made the decorations change colour. Not sure why I remember that specifically.

Thanks in advance!

Any collections of Australian art?

Hey guys, in a few weeks my sister is getting married and the ceremony is happening at our parents house. Very exciting!!!

My parents have recently purchased a Frame (after staying at an airbnb with one) and we would like to put some nice wedding-vibe Australian art on during the big day.

Does anyone know what keywords we could search to find this kind of art? We've had a quick look and it seems like 99% of the art is American or European. Are there Australian artists on some list we haven't found yet? Thanks in advance!

When's the last time they collaborated with... Anyone?

I've gotten used to seeing floundering channels pull a hail mary by calling in every favour they possibly could across the youtube space. Look at how mythical saved smosh - obviously very different specifics going on, but having close relationships with other channels is basically required to succeed on youtube.

They used to have guests on puppet history, but then they changed the format and I haven't kept up with the new channel (lmk if I'm missing anything good btw!). They used to have guests on beatdown, but they seem to have retired that series.

I think mystery files would improve LOADS if they had another person in the room to volley off. Doesn't even have to be someone familiar with the topic at hand! Dropouts' Smartypants has shown me that loads of funny people on the internet are also funny as audience members of a low budget tedtalk.

I know that there was a falling out between them and the try guys, so it makes sense why we haven't seen any of those creators on watcher, but surely they've still got some friends somewhere... Right?

Could you actually look *anyone* up in the phone book?

I'm old enough that I remember my parents having and using a phone book, and trying to teach me how to use it, but by the time I was old enough to have a phone it was a smartphone and... Obviously the phone book was already obsolete.

Could you actually look up anyone and everyone's phone number and address? Even celebrities or other public figures? It seems like such a crazy invasion of privacy!!!

Why is anti-Indian racism becoming more common?

I'm white Australian, so have very little skin in the game.

I've noticed in recent years the #edgy people in my life, especially online, have started openly using slurs and terms I've never heard before. When I ask what they mean the answer is always "oh it's about Indians." Since then, I've seen these terms being used more and more commonly around me, online and in person. Even stuff that isn't slurs, just stereotypes or assumptions that I'd never heard being said about Indians when I was growing up.

I know that anti-muslim racism became very common after 9/11. Has there been an equivalent event orchestrated by Indians that I missed?????? Where is this coming from????

What are the chances that Eurovision Asia will happen?

Hey guys, I'm Australian and have always wanted to go to Eurovision but couldn't afford the trip to Europe. This year my birthday is in the week leading up to Eurovision Asia, so I'm really strongly thinking about cashing in birthday presents early, and heading over to Bangkok!

I'm aware that previous Eurovision spin offs, including Asia, have not exactly come to fruition.

Be realistic with me, what do you reckon are the chances that Eurovision Asia will actually happen?

[mobile (android)][2010s] pixel art game that featured real artists

i think it had da vinci in the name? but basically it was a pixel art game where you run a renaissance era art studio, your artists make paintings and sculptures that you auction off to get money to buy better artists, and occasionally you can buy actual renaissance artists like da vinci or michelangelo.

i remember it being fun initially but the gameplay loop got pretty boring pretty quickly. tried looking it up but all the results for "da vinci mobile game" are about a 3d puzzle series, nothing about the pixel art gallery game.

I'm new to Smosh - where should I start?

Basically what the title says. I've been a fan of Angela for a while cause of dropout, and one of my housemates watches the Reddit stories so when she was on an ep we watched it together and I've been hookeddddd. I do have a few basic questions though

1 Are there any must-watch old videos?

2 How many Smosh people are there? Every video I've seen has almost a totally different cast.

3 Is this the same Smosh some guy in my class would talk about in middle school?

4 I love drama, is there any old/current channel drama to know about?

Tyvm in advancevm
